  1. I use these with these for the second floor windows. Same effect for a fraction of the price.
  2. This is great! The colours work really well, the theme is instantly recognisable and the base is just awesome. Well done!
  3. Thanks for the great review, Pandora! This theme is really starting to grow on me.
  4. This is beautiful! I love the architectural detailing on the palace and the atmosphere you have created with all the activity. Just one thing that bothers me - the shield looks out of place above the main entrance. Otherwise, the entrance to the palace is just stunning and beautifully framed! I also like how all the turrets are different, yet cohesive. Well done!
  5. There are plenty of sellers who are happy for you to order as much or as little as you want, with no lot fees. Always check their splash and terms & conditions pages - the tone used there will tell you a lot about the seller. Personally, I avoid anyone with a lot limit, unless they are the only one with the part I want and I don't have to go out of my way to meet the lot limits. Most of my orders have been with small lot sizes and I haven't yet had any negative feedback. My username there is kjw010 if you want to see who I have been buying from.
  6. Nooooo! I don't do cars, but I barely got any sleep last night because my mind was racing with petrol station designs. I don't want a sleepless night to be for nothing!
  7. I'd be interested. All the gas stations we have been seeing lately has made me think about building one myself.

  9. I think there are a few reasons why Sci-Fi month was such a success: 1. Great hosting. I didn't keep track of all entries, but it seemed like you commented on every single one. This would have required a considerable effort given the number of entries, but I am sure it would have been appreciated by all the contestants. Further, you kept everyone informed as to what was going on. 2. Great prizes. This isn't normally my motivation for entering, but it does make it more interesting. I think the brick-built trophies have a lot more intrinsic value than the set prizes. 3. Interesting categories. I think this is the primary reason for the large number of entries, as it allowed those who would not normally consider themselves Sci-Fi builders to participate. Both the micro and animal categories showcased technical aspects of building, while the animal one also provided for a lot of humorous entries. For me, building a Sci-Fi version of my avatar put me out of my comfort zone, but I really liked the challenge it presented. You deserve a very big pat on the back for your part in making it such a success!
  10. Any chance of a link? I've done some searching, but haven't been able to locate it yet.
  11. My daughter hasn't shown any interest in the City hospital, but her eyes just lit up when I suggested a Friends hospital! I think the difference lies in both the colours of the Friends sets and the level of detail, which provide for great playability. My husband wants more daddy mini-dolls and sets with the girls doing everyday things like grocery shopping with their dads. I guess this reflects him being a stay-at-home dad. For me, I'd like to see a few more larger buildings such as a hospital, town hall, museum or art gallery.
  12. Stunning, with so much eye candy!
  13. Great choice. I'm sure you won't be dissappointed. The Town Hall has the best interior to date in my opinion.
  14. Great review so far! hopefully mine will arrive today or tomorrow and I can stop living vicariously through others' photos! Thanks, too, for laying out the parts. I imagine this would be a pain to do, but it's one of the first things I look for in a review.
  15. I love these buildings, particularly the first one with the angled walls and the top floor on the second building. The colour combinations are beautiful, as are the patterned floors! Will you be building them with real bricks?
  16. This is pretty much my vision for a layout! I'm extra jealous seeing that you also have the Horizon Express. Just one suggestion - maybe swap the Pet Shop and its townhouse with the Green Grocer. I think the Palace Cinema probably works better next to the smaller buildings. Just spotted that you have the recycling truck. A recycling station might work well in one of the residential blocks - maybe opposite the petrol station to provide the break between the large modulars and residential houses.
  17. This looks great! I think yellow would work, not because "We all live ...". Rather, I think yellow makes it look more like a research vessel, which would probably be more acceptable to TLG than those colours that make it look like a navy sub.
  18. I built my last modular with walls that were in sections, with just the last row of plates and tiles holding the walls up. See the second last image in my signature, which is a link to the flickr photos (on mobile device, so linking myself is a bit hard). I did this originally to make it easy to photograph, but it had the added benefit of making it easier to play with for my daughter! I haven't tried hinges. However, I have done open-back versions previously with a 1x16 brick at the top across the back on each level. This provides stability and allows for stackable floors.
  19. Looks great! I don't have a layout, but if I had all the modulars like you, I imagine I would have the Town Hall at the end of a t-junction, with a park / parking around it. The other modulars lining each side of the street opposite the Town Hall. The transition to suburbia would be with some green space or a petrol station.
  20. Another great one, Oky. Thanks for sharing!
  21. They are generally compiled from parts. Figbits on Bricklink is a good place to start. He has a table showing all the feasible combinations. http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=FigBits
  22. Batgirl looks fantastic!
  23. Nicely done, Jonwil. You've captured the essence of an Aussie petrol station perfectly. My only suggestion is that the interior of the shop could use some tiles.
