  1. I haven't found the perfect solution yet ... the poster is correct in that this is a never-ending cycle. I've found my storage solution has evolved as I get more pieces and sets. I'm fairly happy with what I use at the moment, but even then I am currently thinking about the next evolution as some of my parts drawers are getting full. Anyway, this is what works for me (at the moment), for about 55,000 parts: Small parts that I use often (other than bricks) - in drawers (similar to Akro-Mills, but smaller) within arm's reach, sorted by BrickLink categories. Those that I have a lot of get further separate by colour or colour groups (B,W&Grey; earths, rainbow, pinks&purples). Small parts that I use less often (other than bricks) - in small plastic boxes, sorted by BrickLink category. Bricks that tend to use for my buildings - sorted by colour in plastic containers with lids. These containers are shallow to make it easier to find pieces. Some of them have small tubs inside them to hold the 1x1s. Colours that I have a lot of get two boxes (smalls and bigs). There are separate small shallow containers for 2x bricks for some colours that use in MOCs. Bricks in red, blue, green, yellow - One large tub. Plates up to 2x10 - plastic boxes with dividers, sorted by colour. Those that I have a lot of get their on box, others in their colour groups. Minifigs - in plastic boxes with dividers, sorted by general theme (city people, warriors, Star Wars, fantasy) Minifig accessories - in large plastic box with dividers. Furnishings - a large plastic box with dividers, for those things that I use as furnishings and fittings (e.g. containers, radar dishes, printed tiles,, plain heads, mailboxes, cupboards, rubbish bins Separate plastic boxes with dividers for: plants, black roof tiles, windows, doors, large plates, printed / stickered, panels, round and large special plates, wedges, technic bricks, technic pins and connectors, technic plates large technic, small car parts, tyres etc, large car parts You can click here for a couple of photos of what it all looks like. Apologies upfront for the crappy quality! I have stuck to two brands (Fischer Plastic for plastic boxes and drawers) and (decor tellfresh). With the benefit of hindsight, I would have ordered 10 Akro-Mills drawer units of varying combinations through Amazon. This would have been a lot cheaper, but I really had no idea how this would grow. We also have a range of sets, either in their own plastic containers (for the larger sets) or in ziplock bags in larger tubs (for smaller sets), which sit in a separate shelf unit. These are primarily for my daughter. If it was just for me, I would do away with the sets and have everything sorted as above. Oh, yeah. And the massive spreadsheet to keep track of what I own. In this spreadsheet, I make a distinction between parts that come from sets and those that I have bought from BrickLink. This would be a much simplified spreadsheet if I didn't need to keep track of the parts that are sitting in the set boxes.
  2. Sorry to bump my own old topic, but I thought this was probably the best place to let you know that I've put the PDF instructions for this building (structure only, no interior) up on my blog as a free download. http://modularsbykristel.wordpress.com/downloads/ Cheers, Kristel
  3. Awesome! i think I like this better than the official set.
  4. Looks great! You've done a great job of representing the original building. I like the clever use of the flickfire missiles for the posts.
  5. This is beautiful! While it seems to be unusual shape for a ship, I love the overall design and colour scheme.
  6. Both of these are fantastic! I love the facade on the Apple building. :wub_drool: ! I agree with Legogal, these really should be TLG's second mini modular set.
  7. Just gorgeous and packed with great details, like the coat rack, fridge, lighting for the hydroponics room, just to name a few. I also like the clever use of the neck brackets to create a shelf in the kitchen and the SNOT windows on the ground floor.
  8. True, a copy of the original would not have the same sentimental value. The process from taking an order to delivering a product would be measured in months considering the time overseas shipments can take. I don't know how many buyers would be that patient.
  9. Didn't one of the more recent TLG quarterly surveys ask us about our level of education? Maybe you can check those results, although I don't know if there are any biases in who chooses to answer those quarterly surveys. I'm curious why it matters.
  10. I was asked about and considered this once, and was going down the route of valuing the parts based on BrickLink 6 month averages. I never did figure out how much the total was because I realised that I couldn't let it go. The original building had too much sentimental value.
  11. I definitely want to see at least one LegoLand and the one at Billund is on top of the list. I'd also like to go to the US and check out a LEGO store and go nuts on the PAB wall!
  12. We need a like button!
  13. Nice little scene! I like how the red and white striped roof is being held up. I also like the roof done with the red flags, although it does look like it might come crashing down with a decent gust of wind!
  14. Nice twist. Great build too, with some nice parts usage. I love the detail above the window and the use of the larger crates for the walls
  15. Love the ferris wheel and it looks great side by side with the merry-go-round! I'm a bit concerned that there's not much stopping the minifigs from falling out though.
  16. This looks great! I love the cheese slope roof and the olive green works well with the dark red. Maybe you can assume its copper plated? I also like the use of the inverse arches for the front stairs and how you've done the plate arches above the windows.
  17. Hi Bats. I don't know a lot about buffer exchanges as I don't use them. Hopefully, Alasdair or others with more experience in this area will be able to help you.
  18. Looks great. I imagine it would be pretty impressive built in real bricks!
  19. I love the colour scheme and overall look of this one. I have to agree though that the middle floor looks out of proportion and could be reduced by the height of one brick. You'd need to lose the window in the inside corner, but I think the dark red diamond feature would be enough by itself. I also like the red and yellow one. Don't mind that colour scheme at all, but I do think the roof doesn't fit really fit with the rest of the building. I think it would probably look better in black and using roof tiles that are two bricks high.
  20. These are both very cute! I like the clever use of the corner panels on the first one to frame the entrance to the building.
  21. This looks great. I really like how you have done the entrance to the mine and the foliage. My only suggestion would be to make it look a little more run down. It seems more like a recently abandoned mine than an old mine.
  22. I think you're being too hard on yourself. it looks great!
  23. The extensions look great! In terms of a name, I immediately thought of clouds when I saw the new exterior. I know that's not a name in itself, but it might provide some ideas?
  24. Esther, if you're town, I'd like to know why the hell you would pull a stunt as you did. You kept us focused on you for a day and a half, only to find out you're vanilla. You could have declared that from the start. I'm struggling with the concept of believing anything you say right now. Also, you were willing to do this to save your own butt. What else can we expect from you? You've let us all know you're here to win. How much more are you willing to hurt town to win?
