  1. Great tailors shop Ayrlego, I especially like the roof and the interior! Looking forward to seeing this project starting to come together!
  2. It's been a while since Guy's renown Uncle has appeared on the scene. But don't imagine that he's not been busy! Far from it! Uncle has been occupied in using the best agricultural skills of the Brick Seas to breed the largest size of palm tree yet! Of course, such a beautiful palm tree couldn't go to waste! Guy's Uncle did a little snooping around the account sheet... and got a hold of a certain someone's minion. He also sent a nice note to Countess Agnes Mesabi, asking if she wouldn't be present at an interactive demonstration. She was kind enough to agree. Not only had Uncle grown the largest palm tree in the Brick Seas, but he had also developed a brand new, simplified way to hang people by their toes. After tying the person's toes securely to a hefty rope, Uncle got a strong sailor to toss an empty bucket attached to the other end over the top of a palm tree. Then the sailor climbed the tree and began to drop stones into the bucket. This was something of a slow process, but it got done eventually. Agnes Mesabi watched in admiration... until the sailor started to tie her own toes... "What?!? You can't do this!" "You were in the red last month," Uncle responded. "Me? That was my husband!" "All the same." And so the process was promptly repeated. But fortunately for the poor hangees, a messenger ran to Uncle up just as they were struggling. "Sir! The Colonial Council is considering implementing a MRCA tax on..." "What?!?!? A MRCA tax? I must register my protest instantly!" And Uncle dashed off, faster than anyone had ever seen him run before, and before the messenger even got a chance to say, "on Oleon." Thereupon the messenger and the sailor good naturally helped Agnes and the minion to descend, considerably ruffled in temper, but unhurt in body. That's all for now, I'm in a powerful hurry - sorry the pictures aren't quite up to par, but it rained all day!
  3. I feel like there may still be a misunderstanding here (maybe I'm wrong and just sticking my oar in where it doesn't belong, if so, sorry!). Suppose a ship is captured and auctioned. Anyone (including the owner) can bid on it for any price above the asking price. But the owner has an extra deal, with three days to buy it back, no hassle, no licensing fees, no sistership MOC, no competing with bidders, for a flat 125%, and everything will be as if he'd never lost it. Even if rich bidders bid more than 125%, the original player has three days to go right over their heads. Adding the opportunity for the original builder to buy back at a flat rate hasn't changed the going price, and is just giving the original builders an extra "safe" chance to get their own ships back. They don't have to fork out the 125%. They could sistership (which is equivalent I believe to a build + 100% [Edit: Okay, this is a little different for Sea Rats, so maybe from a SR POV it makes more sense to sistership... unfortunately, I really don't see how that can be handled in an open auction like this]), or they could bid (would be dumb to bid over 125%, but anything under, there might still be a good chance of winning it). They could probably even bid and then wait until the 3rd day, and if prices are climbing, hand over the 125%. If an original owner chooses to go for a bidding war, they're every bit as liable to lose without this rule; with this rule, they have three days to cut out all other bidders and get their hands on their own ship. 125% is not really a "maximum income" for the pirates. It's not at all unlikely that in a bidding war a MOCed ship would sell for well over 125%, judging from past auctions. The original owner may very likely be able to buy it back more cheaply than the rich bidders. Yeah, sure, it's going to be rough on a small player's pocket, but losing your ship in the MRCA isn't meant to be just water off a duck's back! It would be just as rough without the 125% "Buy it Back Now" rule, if not rougher, since the owner would be subject whether he liked it or not to all the ups and downs of a bidding war.
  4. Magnificent gateway! The Oleon symbol also looks really good!
  5. The use of black headlight bricks and yellow 1x1 round plates for the city silhouette is excellent! Works really well. A tip on your photos: just making them slightly smaller would allow us to see them better. Right now it's easy to miss the forest for the trees, so to speak. Besides, EB has a requirement that photos be 680 max, I believe. At least, it used to be something like that. It's very easy to resize your photos; just double click once they're posted into the body of your post and you'll get a dialog box with resize options!
  6. It strikes me as though WTC would fit better with, "We're Totally Crooks"...
  7. I would assume that originating builders are free to bid as well, only, they run the risk of being outbid. The 125% is like a "Buy it Now" option just for them. Why not? If the other players want to buy it back for 125%, they can go right over the bidders' heads. Oh, and also, if you buy the ship back for 125%, you're buying back the license. So you wouldn't have to pay 125% + license. That would be a little much!
  8. Very nice clinic, the sand blue looks lovely and great use of those white SW R2-D2 et. al. leg pieces! The greenhouse also looks lovely! Great interior too!
  9. Wait... did I just hear that someone's in the red? Oh-oh-oh... Disclaimer: I'm really busy this week, but this might be too good to pass up...
  10. Excellent angles! Really good use of those brown curved tiles too.
  11. Speak for yourself! The Desert King is no King of mine!
  12. I think it's faster to just double click the poster picture without posting & editing. [Edit: the picture, not the poster.]
  13. Two words: Join Kaliphlin. Nah, seriously, join whichever one inspires you most! What gets your creative juices flowing more - a snowy, rugged, pioneer outpost or a rich, sultry, luxurious desert city? But actually, within both guilds there's plenty of room for differences (for instance, Kaliphlin has large sections of swamps, desert, and mountains, besides bordering Avalonia's forests), and you can always have your character visit a different guild, so you might actually want to look more at which colors/storyline you like best, rather than what kind of landscape. But Mitgardia and Kaliphlin are both awesome, so you'll be sure to make a good choice whichever one you go with.
  14. Recently they've been having more (I'm not quite sure which series have how many, actually) so I guess Ecc decided to jump on the bandwagon!
  15. Well, someone got a little carried away! Two full series of Corrington minifigures and a bonus figure? Impressed that you managed to stick with all Cs! Some great characters - I particularly like the Courier (so much cooler than mine!), the chandelier maker (such a great small chandelier!), and the cheesemonger, but the cannon maker, croquet champion, chocolatier, and copper smith are really great concepts and well executed! In fact, I could go on listing great minifigures from these series for a while! I also really enjoyed most of the quotes!
  16. Yeah, free builds can basically be anything, as long as they fit in the Historica time period/lore/theme! I'm not sure I quite understand this question... I mean, you aren't technically entering these builds - they won't have any bearing on this contest - all you have to do is post them in their own topics and voila you've made five free builds and established your status as a GoHer. Afterwards you can list them in the registration topic, although that's not so critical (it seems to have become rather obsolete! - the deadline was last May...). The important part is that they're posted in this subforum. So if you happen to have a build from a long time ago that you made for Historica but never posted before, you're welcome to post it now!
  17. I don't think your minifigure entry from last time would count, since it says free builds and that would have been for a challenge. Generally speaking, a free build can be any size. I think five decent quality vigs between 8x8-20x20 would do fine, if you want to put all that extra effort into being able to get an entry in. Why not take five of your minifigures and build them some scenes? I'm sure you can use some bricks/brick built figures provided it doesn't get much larger than what you'd see in an official TLG series.
  18. Brown is good. The other colors make the uniform too much like pajamas. Is it old brown? Or dark brown? I think dark brown would be really cool, but might be hard to find in quantity. From the picture, it doesn't quite look like normal reddish brown.
  19. Really pretty build, the translucent parts are very effective. Beautiful waterfall, and I love the use of lime green and tan for the treehouse itself! So much brilliantly creative flora too. Definitely lots to admire... I really like the way you've done the rockwork, great approach. I'll admit that the front tree doesn't quite convince me, going practically straight up with a few protruding branches and just tapering off at the end. A Y on top might have been more believable. But then, the curves on the boughs of the other tree are fantastic! On the whole, this MOC is a pleasure to behold!
  20. You too? I find female characters incredibly complicated in LEGO as well! I think it's in part that the facial expressions (at least the ones I have) are all either happy, screaming, or furious. It's much harder to find a female face that really conveys some sort of specific character idea than it is to find a male one. Good point about the white arms helping. At the time of editing the picture I was just thinking about how terrible a white and black combo is to photograph. Thank you!
  21. Great choice of color with the pastel yellow! An excellent build as a whole, I'm definitely looking forward to more of Jameston!
  22. Great work Faladrin! I really like the carpenter minifigure, the Eslandian scholar, and that lady pirate looks ferocious!
  23. Thank you Captain Dee! about the pick! Yes, a bit of caution is definitely in order!
  24. Well they look like cannons. A brown pistol might look like a bowsprit, or whatever color the other mast is.
