  1. Honestly I think a Royal Palace should be a residence and shouldn't be thrown into Culture just because it can fit (and seriously, what palace wouldn't be able to fit Art & Culture?). Of course it can fit, but palace is the archetype of a large residence and that's where it should go. Otherwise who in their right mind would license a palace as a residence? I can see why Maxim is annoyed. I'd be annoyed too, if I licensed a huge palace as a residence only to find that other people were licensing them as Art & Culture. The mere prestigious feeling of knowing that you've built and own a huge palace is enough (obviously, it's been done at least twice I think) for people to have incentive to license royal residences. In fact the low income is kind of added bonus in some sense - like, I'm so rich, I can just buy me a palace that's never gonna pay me back. A higher income shouldn't be necessary, but just letting the whole residence concept by bypassed would mean that the income does need to be adjusted on residence so people have some reason to use that bracket. I'm not accusing KB of bending the rules or anything, as I said a palace obviously does fit in Art & Culture, and it's perfectly natural to want to get the most out of a beautiful build like this, but I personally think that the rules should be edited to be specific that palaces are Royal Residences and will never fit in Art & Culture, unless perhaps they're made into a museum (though even that IMHO is borderline and I would be glad to see it disallowed, because the reason a palace could be a museum would be because it was a palace or represented a palace, i.e. a residence, in the first place), any more than you can build a log cabin or a gothic-style house or any other "cultural" looking house and license as a small Art & Culture instead of a residence. If it's built to live in, then it's a residence, no matter how artistic or cultural it might look. The question shouldn't be, what category can I possibly squeeze this build into, but what category is the best fit. And if we decide that Art & Culture is best fit for a palace then the Royal Residence slot has become completely obsolete. Anyway! Sorry to hijack KBs thread. To return to a more pertinent question, I add my seal of approval to the lore addition that's been suggested for explaining why Oleon owns this residence, which in the first instance made absolutely no sense to me either. Well I think the natural growth rate is all residences? Sort of a background explanation. After all it's kind of boring to build tons of residences. And lots of people with small shops would live in the second story or something in those days.
  2. Why in fact, he doesn't look much at all like Guy to me...
  3. What a beautiful micro KB, you really never disappoint with your massive digital builds! Great job, excellent layout and super impressive size!
  4. I think this is a nice option, though of course it would always be possible for builders to "save" their MOCs and post later. But raising the cap for a month seems like a neat idea to me. (Not saying this because I anticipate being able to build extra myself, I probably won't!)
  5. Super cool build dG, lovely work with the arches over the waterway, on the canoes/gondolas (I guess they have sails, so they're not really canoes or gondolas... but whatever!), and on the buildings... such a great choice of color for the roofs! I'd never heard of the book (series?) before but it looks really nice!
  6. Beautiful interior Garmadon, I love the spacious feel! Great choice of colors and all the details, furniture, stairs, etc, look really good. Feel sorry for the hanging pig though. Looking forward to the rest of the story!
  7. I like the idea of a reward based on visiting ships to the settlement to offset the incentive for charging dock taxes (which will naturally have a tendency to drive ships away). I'm all for it being complicated behind the scenes, as long as it can be automated to ensure a sustainable work load for leadership, but I do think that the game is already plenty complex on the outside. Perhaps we should have a completely different rules thread, or at least a different post in the property thread, for settlements (would make the property post seem a lot simpler, since settlements is the complicated thing!) since that is really something only mayors absolutely need to know, and will be easier for players to understand after they've already mastered the property and ship rules. Right now the settlement rules come before the rules for property types, which is probably not the best place to start when understanding properties.
  8. And you move has been made... great couple of builds, especially the micro view of Mardier's capital! I really like the use of short technic axle in white for pillars. Looking forward to seeing where this goes next!
  9. Wonderful trio of builds, love the bright color and both those shelters look great, but especially the leaf one, fantastic use of those spikes, it really looks wonderful!
  10. Some great builds here to advance the storyline, from Lord Buckethead's impressive amount of troops to Bregir's rather graphic scene to SilentWolf's map with a great combination of 2- and 3-D!
  11. Really neat idea doing a part of a ship @Captain Genaro - turned out very nicely!
  12. An excellent ship, great curves and lots of detail!
  13. Great job with this office scene Capt Wolf, story and build both!
  14. Great pair of builds to keep the story going Ayrlego, what a nice collection of camels and ostriches you have too! The top of the roof scene looks great, lots of detail!
  15. @Khorne - those are some awesome dragoons! Looking forward to seeing them in a MOC!
  16. Just discovered these... can I say that I'm glad they aren't being made in bricks, because if so I'd be broke about now? Some amazing minifigures! Top notch work! Having just gone through the whole series, there are far to many standouts to even list, but I'll definitely be following this for future series!
  17. That street... such lovely sand blue... Great job. The square red roof looks really good! Nice to see NPC factions getting some love too!
  18. Thanks UM! Thanks!
  19. As KB says, hanging people by their toes from a palm tree is a classic thing my character Guy Wyndzon's uncle does whenever he spots someone in the red. It used to be more meaningful in the good old days when accounts were calculated manually at the end of the month, so people didn't have instant access to see what was actually in their account and errors were occasionally made which I saw when the accounts were all posted in the forum. Since it's all been automated, I haven't really been keeping tabs on who goes into the red; but a couple people got mentioned, so... Thank you! People are always trying to cheat Uncle out of his fun! Thanks! Thanks Kwatchi! Used up all the palm leaves I had, unfortunately, or I would have tried to make the canopies a bit bigger. And yeah, I would have loved to write more! Ran out of time. These past weeks have been super hectic for me, I had almost give up on the hanging at all! Thank you! Thanks Ayrlego! Yeah, there were lots of those pieces in the Temple of Airjitzu and I've been looking out for ways to use them ever since that set bit the sorting dust... Thank you Puvel! Glad you noticed the base! First time I've tried that technique out for sand, worked pretty well! Uncle is ready for anything! Thanks Sir Stig!
  20. Surprised how well that lantern looks in brown and yellow! The use of polka-dot stones in the wall, so to speak, is great too, gives the vig a comical feel.
  21. Great addition, the barber shop colors really liven it up and that style of window for the second story looks good too! Looking forward to seeing more of Jameston!
  22. A pair of very nice micro builds!
  23. Great work achieving the circle of dirt around the mill! The mill itself looks very good also!
  24. Neat to see some other factions getting some love! Really like the design for the Prima Compania. The black and yellow musketman is also really cool! I find it rather awkward how the explorer is wearing yellow gloves (?) though... makes it too easy not to notice her face is tan... which, considering the rest of her outfit...
  25. Great work with the boats half in the water! The minion dangling by his toes from the palm tree is a great reference. Nowhere in the Brick Seas are you safe from Uncle's righteous vengeance!
