Very nice house here, good job with the texturing and I'm liking the red strips! I think the main problem with the door (not from a functional perspective, but aesthetically) is that it blends in too much with the rest of the house; I always try to make my doors different colors from most of the rest of the house. Personally I rarely make my doors functional, in fact generally I don't bother to attach them in any way as I find trying to do either one hampers what I can do with the walls around the door too much. SK's example of using minifig hips though was really ingenious!

Actually, though I have built a thing or two there (I believe), it's not mine; it was already on the map I think quite a while before I joined.

Great job taking a relatively simple & small build and doing something awesome with it, I really like that flooring and the four guild decorations! Thanks for the half dismantled floor pic as well, I had thought of a couple ways to make that gap but didn't realize it could be that simple! Definitely something I'm going to try out...

HSS Craftsmen: The Kaliphlinite Market (UoP DoH)
Kai NRG replied to Bregir's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice work here, good use of the arches, and I like the clean, whitewashed look! +1 for marketplace. Since the MOC is technically in Avalonia, I'm not sure I can give you credit for life in Kaliphlin... it might be similar, but if it's not actually there...? Especially since it's a fairly easy credit to get (not very specific), I don't feel like I can give it to you right now. As others have mentioned, the ground could use a bit of work. A tiled floor would probably be the nicest solution to the slightly barren look you have right now; it would go with the clean look of the rest of the MOC, but a cobblestone look (a bit more random part placement) would probably be an improvement as well.- 31 replies

Thanks everyone! You should have seen all the crates and barrels of stuff I was trying to fit into the armor shop... it would have filled the entire MOC floor space, I think! Thanks! Thanks Gabe. The idea was that both houses were supposed to give the impression of being part of a larger building... somehow that always fades away when it comes to putting the roof on as I always find a half roof looks bizarre! Yes, the blue house walls especially could use something. I just couldn't really see my way to adding more windows given the way I did the forward roof slant... just remind me to do a nice square or at least symmetrical house next time! As for the brown house, it would have been really difficult to include a window there, but that would be a nice challenge next time I try one of those! Thanks Gideon! I keep forgetting about the wood problem! I'll have to keep that in mind if I do another SG build! Yes, the violins are from BrickForge.

Welcome Siedna! Boy you Kaliphlins have been busy in my absence... four or five pages of comments (which I do not plan on reading!). Congratz to Gabe, on the job and the win! And Congratulations to Kayne as well, well deserved both of you! I now have four Tradesman degrees from our Petraea University Doctorate of Historica program; Architecture, Geography, Anthropology, and Culture. That makes me a Master (with one to spare) now! (You can check the credits out here.) -
Thanks mephistopheles!

Thanks Gabe! I'm glad the cakes seem to be so popular (but then, what cakes wouldn't be! ).

Sultan's Gate's "Fair Street" is renown throughout Historica for it's intriguing shops! The house on the left is a music store. The owner's workshop is on top, and he sells instruments down below. Without customers: The wooden house is an armory. Apologies for the rather crusty overview picture, I didn't have much choice but to take it today and it was raining! I'd like UoP credits for Roofing #3, Roof Rakes (both Architecture), Interior Design (General Building), and Music (Culture) if possible please! Thanks for looking! Comments are always welcome!
