Free build: A Joshua Tree in the Contemplative Gardens
Kai NRG replied to SarahJoy's topic in Guilds of Historica
As others have said, those curves are great! Good job on the landscaping as well! +1 for round walls, but I don't think I can give you flowers and dense foliage for the little section inside the curve. It's nice and dense, however I'd like to see more before I give you credit for the subject.- 32 replies

[MOC] - Task 4 - Grey Beard Wizard's Cottage
Kai NRG replied to cesbrick's topic in Guilds of Historica
What I would do would be just pick eight, it's a big enough build that you could probably get that many without any trouble. I see what you were thinking with the floor, but since it's not really a design (more ground than flooring), I don't think it can really count. -

Amazing build! Great rockwork, and that color blend for the roof really nails it! Love all the variety in your landscaping as well! I'm not sure I can give you what is basically 13 credits for this build (as far as I know each wall certification usually counts as a separate credit). It is a large and diverse build, and a fantastic one, but it's not much over the 2x32x32 minimum in place for asking for more than the normal 4 credits. So I'd be happy to give you any eight of the credits you've applied for (except SNOTted floor designs, I can't see what part of the build that applies to), but pending feedback from other regular UP graders, I'm not sure I can give you more than that! -
Nice work, especially with the tree there! Good job on the foliage as well! +1 for the UoP credits.

Thanks guys! Hmm... I guess it's kind of hard to tell. I think I have built some things I otherwise wouldn't have, but not a whole lot. I also think I have improved since I started, but how much of that is due to the program and how much to other sources is also tough to calculate. On the whole... yes, I think it has helped, but maybe not quite as much as might have been initially expected.- 343 replies

Mount up! Rhopalocera Lagargander (Giant Butterfly)

Thanks! I could pretty easily get rid of the black altogether, that might look pretty good, I should try something like it one of these days! -
Great build, I like your use of 1x2 tan tiles on the wall of the house, I don't think I've seen that before, and it really works! Good work with the landscaping too! +1 for your UoP claims!

Thanks SK! One of these days I'll have to go for a really big waterfall... Thanks! Yes, it's a great technique! Thanks Torgar! -
Great job, that roof is very unique and really works well! And all that chocolate ice cream... I want to work here...

Thanks guys! Ahh... yes, that's a good point! (But it would be harder to balance! ) Thanks!

@NM, those modifications sound good! I agree that second time claims should be limited. Oh, and I've now got the title of Doctor (which I believe is the first one):- 343 replies

Yeah, I've seen that sort of thing several times and no one as far as I know has been blamed for it or anything, so it seems just fine... why not, I'd use the same essay for two writing contests if I could (unless specifically prohibited, of course!).

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Kai NRG replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
The top is really very good, I think you could probably just tear that part off without destroying it too much and rebuild the bottom. The other thing you could do would be to make a house or other structure (wood or stone, probably) built up against the bottom. Personally I think it's fine without color variations. Is it supposed to be stone, or sand? If sand, the jutting out sections are highly unrealistic. If stone, I would suggest not putting it on a tan base, to highlight the fact that it's not the same as it's surroundings. I really think though that a house or something would fix most of that. And then, if this is supposed to be the back of the build (is there going to be a booth somewhere?) you could just not show us this side... Oh, and I went ahead and posted here rather than PMing since after all a main point of the guild thread is to post and get advice on WIPs! -
Mount up! Rhopalocera Lagargander (Giant Butterfly)

Thanks! Thanks Gabe! I was afraid you'd see the hinge brick too much, I was able to tilt it downwards with a clip piece, but yeah, a little sideways would have been cool. You're right about the bamboo rounds, though I think they aren't as obvious IRL, but I did notice them and couldn't think of a way to break it up! -

Kai NRG replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
I generally don't tear my build's apart even if I'm not satisfied with them, I'd take a picture and then tear it apart and start from scratch... or maybe take a break and build something else! Sometimes I do build a portion of it (say I'm building two houses one one build, I build the first one) and then tear that down and start from scratch. And sometimes I'll start a build one way, and for whatever reason not be happy with it and destroy it (and start again). @Kabel, yeah, if you can't when you beat 'em, copy 'em! -

Nice work, I like the ruins and the plants (horns) growing out of the ground work really well! Nice use of the fox head as well! -
I don't recall that being the case... or maybe I'm seeing what I want to see, I've done it several times...

Yes, but only if your name starts with a K. -
Thanks everyone! Thanks a ton! It is rather complicated and was quite appalling when I first tried to do rockwork like this, but after getting my feet wet, it comes pretty easily! Thanks! You're right, it's very small... but thanks for giving me the credit anyways!

Mount up! Rhopalocera Lagargander (Giant Butterfly)
Kai NRG replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! Now that is a good point... I wouldn't want one crawling around in my garden, that's for sure! Oh yeah, I understood it! I just thought it was kind of ironic, really! Well, I can easily bend the wings (I can even make the top wings go up and the bottom ones go down but that looks pretty bizarre!), and the eyes of course swivel. The antenae are easy to move but don't really look right in other positions! And the little feet things rotate back and forth. And the head can go up and down a little, but not much. Thanks! -

A young and hardy mountaineer makes his way down the slope with a load of wood. Back view: Just a quick little build, once again using the overhanging border idea. I'd like to claim UoP credit for logging (Agriculture and Zoology) with this one. C&C more than welcome as always!

Thanks everyone! Thanks! I've always admired MS's borders and decided I'd try to do something similar! Actually, it doesn't really reflect my personality at all... I'm not a butterfly lover, but it is pretty unique I guess! Thanks! Thanks Gideon! -
Fantastic job with your mount, very ferocious looking! The slight forward tilt is really great, and all those horns really add to it!
