Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II
Bregir replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
"Nobody expects the Corlander Research Grant Committee" -
I think this is a lovely little scene, actually. The low facade in the background and the life on the street is well depicted. I like the little handcart too. I will never be a fan of mixing fleshies with yellows, though, but that is entirely a personal reference! And actually, as long as your builds are part of the overall storyline of your adventure, why not keep posting them there? (I get the point about builds you want to license, but you can actually link to specific posts in a topic). It will help keep the story coherent, and help ensure that the gamemasters get the whole story included. Its been really tough keeping up with all the great stuff on bobs, these days, let alone commenting on it all. Particularly with all the things happening lately, and a wish to get some builds done too!

I very much agree with this. I think the WTC soldiers (both types - and I prefer the dark brown pants for the elites) are quite innovative, while still fitting, but a backpack or epaulettes could give them that extra little something. (And epaulettes in most colours can be acquired cheaply on Bricklink, I seem to recall)

No faction *needs* members and no one should join a faction by that logic. Anyone should join the faction that inspires them the most! :) That said, welcome Jonas - always nice to see new faces in BoBs! :) Will be looking forward to following your stories! -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Personally, I would take away the upper hull piece at the stern, and lower the cabin to sit directly on the lower hull piece. And then I would lower the cabin a bit too. In official lego sets, I know the cabin is always placed on top of the deck, but in reality, it would be below the the (quarter or poop) deck. In early age of sail, the curve of the whole hull and the stern and forecastles would place the cabin higher, but it would never be a box on top of the hull. Look at Bodi's recent silent Mary how the cabin is integrated in the hull, as an example. At this scale and with the bricks available you may not achieve the same, but it shows what I mean. :) Hope this was helpful /useful :) -
[OL - FB] Large Rum Factory of Fatu Hiva
Bregir replied to KotZ's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looking great, KotZ - great use of bricks for this scale! @Capt Wolf: I believe this is one of the ch 5 microbuild prizes, but even if it isn't I think it is sufficient footprint and effort for a small license.- 13 replies

The Eltina Courrier - October 617AE (AMRCA)
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The builds are up to the adventurers! -
Fantasic looking interior, KB, and I like the whole idea of the cut-away! Particularly the curtains and candlestands on the walls are fabulous, but the doorway is looking real nice too! The whole building reminds me of the modulars, and I wonder if we will be allowed to see the whole thing? Lastly, it is really nice to see your sigfig getting some airtime! I shall very much be looking forward to following his story, and hopefully at some point meet him sig fig to sig fig!

New Ship Classes - The Transition
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Maxim I: Whatever ship you build, its provinence is basicly irrelevant. What matters is the overall size of the moc. If it is comparable to the Royal Philip in size, it could be considered a class 10. -
[OL - A-MCRA] Mission to Mardier
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Kolonialbeamter The HRS Royal Philip was a majestic sight as she entered the Londa harbour followed by the États de Boussac, her guns blazing a Royal salute in honour of King Alphonse XIII. Welcoming the Oleonese as friends, the Royal fortresses of Londa burst into a cacaphony of flame and thunder as they return the salute from all corners of the port. The Mardierian Port Admiral sets off in his barge to meet the Duc de Corban and his staff in the great cabin of the Royal Philip. "My dear friend, Mardier welcomes you and yours to Londa, and hopes that your stay may be pleasant." he began. "You are here well ahead of time, and I fear the foreign ministry will not be able to receive you this week and more..." "Poseidon blessed our journey and filled our sails, monsignore." the Duc de Corban said with a bow. "It is our pleasure to be here in your glorious capital". After a few more civilities, the Duc de Corban was whispered something in his ear from Amiral d'Ancios. "There is the matter of shore leave, sir. Our men swiftly grow bored moored in port, and I trust we can reach an agreement..." The Mardierian Port Admiral was stumped for a moment before saying: "I fear we cannot countenance a foreign army in our Capital. I can only allow you, your nearest staff, and 4 guards to go ashore at any given time... I am sure you understand my position...." The Duc de Corban is well-aware of the importance of shoreleave to sailors and marines in port, but it is imperative to stay on good terms with the Mardierians. How will he handle the situation? "We must accept the Mardierian position to gain their favour! The soldiers and sailors or Oleon must put their faith in the Gods that they will be rewarded for their abstinence." Your build must show that those stealing away ashore will be sanctioned. "Our men are our life's blood, and they must have their entertainment! Mardier will have to accept this, regardless of their haughty pride. Perhaps there is something we can do to "sweeten the deal..."?" Your build must clearly indicate how this is achieved. "Shore leave can be arranged without stepping on anyone's toes. A small vessel will be chartered to bring small groups of men to a nearby town in agreement with Mardierian officials, where they will pose no issue." Your builds must include: A class 1 or 2 transport vessel; the men entertaining themselves with various sailor's delight. One vessel and two vignettes required. The vessel must be licensed from the adventure treasury. -
[OL - A-MCRA] Travels to Terraversa
Bregir replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
RNTC: @Captain Genaro, @Bodi, @Dukesc, @KotZ As the impressive fleet of merchant vessels venture north towards Terraversa, the skies are clear and the sea calm. Almost unnaturally calm, but the reason soon appears - pulp and palm trees, obvious signs of a recent storm tearing trees from the ground of nearby islands. It is smooth sailing for the RNTC, who, despite... differences with the order of the Faith, appear to be blessed by Poseidon himself. Hollande almost finds it pleasant, being in a state of drunken stupor, rather than his usual rabid seasickness. Tearing through the silence, the look-outs suddenly hails the deck, almost simultaneously across the 5 vessels. "Multiple sails, hulls down, two points off the larboard bow!" in sharp seamen's voices. "I see one ship-rigged, a brig, and one, no two fore-and-aft rigged vessels!" the Centurion's sharp-eyed young look-out barks. "All deep in the water, rig all ahoo! Flying signals of distress, asking for assistance." Henri Hollande looks to the naval officers around him, his gaze revealing that he is in no way comfortable with the situation. Neither the naval etiquette, the navigational consequences, nor the organisational challenges connected with such a situation is within his experience or skill set. He sighs to himself while his hand gropes for the flask in his coat - he should never have been put in this situation... The fleet is now faced with a dilemma: The distressed ships are far away to leeward, the sun is low on the horizon, and a rescue mission will mean hours, maybe days lost in their progress towards Terraversa, and the prospect of bringing on a large group of distressed, cold, and wet foreigners in need of dry clothes, food, water, and a place to sling their cot is enough to make any captain fret. But then again, the ethics of the Brick Seas would have anyone help a fellow sailor in distress... What will Hollande and his officers do? "Ehrm... Capitaine? We better...help them." Hollande suggests vaguely, followed immediately by the sharp orders of the sea officer. "Bring her about, make all sail and prepare to lower the boats for a rescue operation. Carpenters and mates, prepare shot plugs, fothering sails, and tools for emergency repairs. Bosun and mates, be ready to set up jury rigs." Your builds must include: A boat somehow being prepared for aiding the distressed sailors; craftsmen preparing to help with repairs, including their tools and materials; and some part of the actual rescue or repair effort. 4 builds required in total. "We have a mission to complete... Poseidon will see to their judgment" croaks Hollande, before turning away with a sip of his flask. Surely, neither the RNTC nor Calida would take it lightly should he take to dilly-dalliying his time away with humanitarian adventures. Your builds must include: A microscale of one or more ships in distress in the distance; docking at Terraversa (microscale possible). 3 builds required in total. "Capitaine, could we not split up the fleet...?" Hollande says with a pleading gaze. "Certainly, monsieur!" the swift response falls. "How will you divide the fleet?" Your builds must include: Signalling orders to break up the fleet; distressed sailors welcoming their saviours; sighting of Terraversa (microscale possible) by the part of the fleet that presses on. 4 builds required in total. It must be clear how the fleet and other resources are divided. -
[AMRCA - Sir Stig] Old Aquaintances
Bregir replied to Sir Stig's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Sir Stig Poseidon must have watched over him. Victor Servadac arrived safely at the docks in Freeport, despite a huge tropical storm that had raged further south the past couple of days, and whose effects could even be felt on the deck of the small vessel that carried Victor to the remote Garvian town. 'Poseidon be blessed!' - Victor thought to himself. Or was it the White Glove Order that had watched over him? 'What a strange thought!' - Victor shook his head. But he wasn't really sure about the subject. To be honest, he wasn't sure about a lot of things regarding the mysterious Order - the letter that had him come to Freeport had even shocked Victor a little. And now that he had arrived - no sign of the White Glove Order whatsoever. What was he to do now? Long he contemplated, standing there at the docks, somehow feeling alone - despite all the many people going about their business in this bustling port. And as he contemplated, a mild breeze surrounded Victor, smelling of sugary rum from the many notorious Freeport bars that lay in front of him, fish that was being sold to his right, and nuances of heavy perfume, obviously originating from a number of rather frivolous looking young women further down the road to his left. Strangely, the sea behind him didn't seem to smell at all. To Victor, this was scary symbolic - he was alone in a strange place, he could not just turn around, knew he had to go forward... but in what direction? Had had never felt so lost in his life... Just at this very moment a strange old man appeared in front of Victor - seemingly out of nowhere. 'Do you know who you are?' he began to ask. Victor, startled as he was still deep in his thoughts, just looked at him. 'I'm sorry, you were saying?' 'Would you like to find out?' the strange man went on. 'Would I like to find out what?' Victor replied, still confused as to what was going on. 'How do I know you are White Glove Order?' White Glove Order! Victor instantly snapped out of his semi-sleepy state of mind. 'How do I know you are White Glove Order?' he heard the old man ask once more. Who was that old man? Everything pointed to him being a representative of the order, but there was always the risk that he was just an old fool, drunk from the brews and fumes of Freeport, going on some rumour he picked up. Or even some agent. Victor had to think fast... 'The order has a task for you' He insisted. 'You must...' The old man is giving you one of the following tasks. Pick one and show us how you solve it. (One build required) Prove to the old man that you are truly a member of the WGO. Do you have a chant, a secret handshake, a medallion, a seal, or similar? Attend a secret meeting of the order with the old man. Where do they meet, and what does a meeting entail? What is on the agenda? Bring the man on a covert mission to deal with the enemies of the order. Do they use force, subterfuge, politics or manipulation to overcome adversity? Your adventure will hardly be about money. Will there be a reward at all? Nobody knows. There might even be times you could think it best to just turn around and give it all up. There are no rights and wrongs here, this is a journey to yourself. Do you have what it takes?- 20 replies

[SR - AMCRA FB4 Oct] Uncharted Jungles
Bregir replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
In general, no. Your choice and the story you tell will decide the outcome. But of course, if someone goes the extra mile and tells an elaborate story on top, perhaps with several builds, that will have a larger impact on the outcome. But it will not change the chance of success. Does that make sense? :) -

Not at all - the ETTC is not a Royal Society or even a Royal company. It has simply recieved a charter from the crown to conduct business. You wont see us changing name to "RETTC" anytime soon. -

I do not understand the question. -
We will publish a "Newspaper" with all the AMRCA results (in summary) when we have finalised them for this month. Perhaps the solution would be to include links to the adventure topics?
-
@Sir Stig: Actually, we have been struggling a bit with yours, but we are quite close to a result. What that is you will have to wait and see... *dum dum DUM!*
-
A quick heads-up to all you adventurers - remember you have until the next MRCA deadline (TBA) to finish your story and builds. And if you can't make it, the adventure will simply be postponed to the next deadline, until the build(s) is posted, so take your time and enjoy your story. No need to rush! We are hoping you will enjoy this new format for the AMRCA, and that what we have published so far will spawn some good stories. Just messing with you! I know you can take it!

New Ship Classes - The Transition
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Also, we don't expect players to look for ways to exploit the system, Mesabi. Leadership will step in if someone goes overboard with some exploit. But as Genaro said, there are some other checks and balances and if someone starts posting subpar mocs and in high number, that will not be accepted. -
A beautiful little lodging perfect for the frontier. I like how you made the overlapping, interspersed log ends without using headlight bricks of any kind. :) Also the use of green and white background here works brilliantly!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It's size ;) Appr. 16x16 is small, 32x32 medium, and 48x48 is large. And you do not need to make it square, but the number of studs should be in the ballpark. :) -
Dear all, We will start publishing the AMRCA results (the first has already been published) on the individual adventure topics as we finish them. The order is random, so please don't be pushy (Looking at you here, @Mesabi ) as that will push your adventure to the end! We are working on it and will deliver in time, hopefully done before the weekend is over. Enjoy! Bregir, KB, and LS.
