[COR-CWW] The Cocovia wagonway: a royal collaboration
Bregir replied to Brickwolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Count me in for an entry, sir. I am loving the whole concept! Normally, this is possible, but you should consider whether trying to cover more categories may harm you chance of winning any one of them. :) -
You can start your adventure and send more ships and troops at any time in the process. However, they will not magically appaer on the other end of the world, so you might have to wait for them, or let them otherwise catch up.

[COR - FB] Last service on the HMS Redoubtable

As I said earlier, great build, and now that you have spiced the story up and played along, it is even better! :) Welcome to BoBs! -
[OL - FB] Fatu Hiva Ship Register
Bregir replied to Capn Frank's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice interior and very Oleanderish tiled floor! ;) The bookshelf is really nice, but the absolute highlight is the bust on top! Brilliant design! -
Does this mean we will see a new ship from your hand? :) Nice looking little office and very crisp pictures!
-
I am merely explaining what it is supposed to represent. I see it as leadership's responsibility to help players understand the rules.
-
You are not dumping money in the ocean. IC, you are making investments in for instance infrastructure or personnel that makes it possible for you to handle a bigger fleet. OOC it is to ensure that increased shiplimits are entered into the lore. We don't want shiplimits to be raised in secret. That is not he spirit of the game.

To Lieutenant Lavendwood, First of HMS Redoubtable Your request for transfer to the Terra Novan Fleet has been approved and you shall soon receive orders to join the next vessel going east. The Terra Novan Fleet has need of young enterprising officers, and you will certainly find opportunity to distinguish yourself and bring glory to her majesty and the Royal Navy. Rear-admiral Fletcher Commander-in-chief, Royal Terra Novan Fleet OOC : Welcome aboard, sir! We will be looking forward to following your adventures - you are of course always welcome to ask any questions you may have - I am certain you will find BoBs a friendly community! Also nice builds and great backstory. I particularly like the one on the deck of the ship! A little heads up: The first round of the new MRCA (ship game) starts on the 10th, so if you get a vessel ready by then, you can join in that. Your first class 1 or 2 vessel is free. -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
*runs off to the patent office* @Spud The Viking: Impressive work so far. I will echo LS in saying that the widest point of the hull should probably be just around the latter where the minifig is currently placed. Are you working from some particular inspiration? Currently, I am thinking a brig or perhaps a small ship-sloop, but it would be cool to see what you are going for, and a bit easier to give advice, when it comes to placement of masts, type of rigging, etc. And there are many ways to make the sides slope. You can also fasten your sides on a plate, that is fastened to the hull on a technic hinge a few bricks lower towards the center of the hull. It takes up a bit of space in the interior, but can create a very study construction. In my own schooner, I used old roof hinges, and I quite like how that turned out: -
Personally, I find the Dark Bishop the perfect example for mystic occurrences in BoBS. There are a number of builds about him using dark arts to rejuvenate or similar, which I treat like rumours that would often be spread about notorious personalities. And I believe different characters will react differently to such rumours. The typical, pious Oleander will probably see it as heathen practices flying in the face of the true Pantheon. The typical, scientific Corlander will question its reality, and wonder if there might be a scientific explanation. The Sea Rat may fear or look-up to him. The typical mercantile Eslandian may consider whether there might be a profitable opportunity in this. And all these interpretations can coexist with taking Kwatchi's contributions seriously and enjoying his stories, even if you are yourself playing a more "realistic" universe. The good thing about Meloche is that he does not impose the supernatural upon the rest of us. Like Elostirion described, we can consider it how we want. The same can be said for for instance the ghost ship or a sea monster. Some will consider it rumours, exaggerations or myths, and look for more logical or scientific explanations, while others may take it at face value, consider it a sign from the gods, or whatever. The age of sail in consideration, there were many myths, and rumours of notorious pirates or opponents. It was a time of superstition, religion, and early scientific discovery. Many scientists would like think that mermaids were not mythical beings, but as of yet undescribed species. And BoBS certainly has room for it. As for vessels of this age, we have seen a wonderful mix of highly accurate models and lego set-like constructions. Some colourful, alternative approaches, and others, subdued replicas of real ships. We have seen cogs and longboats from the start of the last millennia, galleons and caravels from the age of exploration, native crafts and far east inspired junks, and Napoleonic era frigates and ships of the line. And all sorts are welcome in BoBS, as long as they conform with the spirit of the game. (Eg. no steam engines or magically powered hovercrafts...) The twist is that in BoBS they coexist, and that a similarly sized early caravel may well best a (in RL more modern) Napoleonic era frigate, although in reality firepower and manouverability might have made it unlikely. When people ask for advice in our shipwright's guild hall, I do tend to give advice towards a more realistic approach, and according to my personal preference. (For instance, I don't personally like Lego's approach to ships, where the cabin is placed like a box on top of the hull) But that does not mean I do not appreciate people preferring the Lego style for their MOCs. As to official Lego sets in themselves, they are only "excluded" because they are not MOC's, not because of their style or "quality". As someone else said, to participate in the EGS or MRCA, you need a moc (or at the least, a heavy mod). If someone uses official sets in their stories, that is ok, but they can't be licensed. BoBS is, at least partly, about improving our building skills, afterall. :) What is your own position on this? I find it interesting (and inspiring) to see new participants jumping into the game with such enthusiasm, and as leaders it is always interesting to hear positions on these matters.

You only pay the 850. The base upkeep is only a Base for the calculation. -

I'd say they are fairly similar, but of course they will tend to give into pressure and find a sort of resting state with no tension. Ibn al'Sayeed had to lend his head to another character for a moment, but a replacement has arrived ;) Not the best picture, but it really is just a slide on a swivel. :) -

An update on the Grand Sphinx: Reworked headrails and an 18-pounder on a swivel in the centerline. The hoses are custom (and a little bit thicker in external diameter, as can be seen on how they are a bit flat in the holders) Waiting for more pieces for the lateen yards. C&C is, as always, welcome! :) -
I'd say leadership can take a decision based on what has been said so far, but I'll leave that up to KB to decide. There is such a thing as too much democracy :P

Welcome to Terra Nova, Reinhardt Wollfson. A very interesting backstory, and an inventive sig fig. I shall be looking forward to following, and perhaps partaking in, his adventures in the Brick Seas. Corrington welcomes you, and your fellows will certainly aid you, should you have any questions. -
[COR-AMRCA] Mokolei Expedition
Bregir replied to Lord Buckethead's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Near the camp, Mr. Bardsley of the ETTC is taking a stroll, followed by two soldiers of the 5th Platoon, 3rd Company, 1st ETTC Sepoy Regiment assigned to assist him on this expedition. They have stopped near a Mokolei shadoof for a rest and a drink of the local water. Mr. Bardsley was excited to start the expedition, and while the delay had allowed him to make some local contacts, all this waiting was not part of the ETTC plan. The Sepoys are specifically selected for their physical size, and often from local populations, making the Sepoy regiment highly diverse. However, they are rigourously trained by the best Corlander standards and the tall men with large turbans make them a menacing sight on the battlefield. Not that the ETTC is a particularly militaristic organisation, but sometimes radical means are necessary to protect the interest of the company and the Crown. __________________________________________________________________________ "We shall certainly soon be there," young mr. Christopher Sherman assured himself. He was well aware that his group was late, delaying the whole expedition, but the winds had not been proper and authorities in several nations on the way had proven difficult for the newly appointed diplomat. Mr. Sherman was top of his class in the University of Bellson, but the books had said little of the horrors of foreign bureaucrats, and he had had to learn as he moved along. This was an exciting mission for any diplomat, and the outcome would likely define the rest of his career. Naturally an optimist, Mr. Sherman had every hope of success, although the success criteria were somewhat fuzzy to him. His superiors had said very little about the objective, and had proven unwilling to elaborate upon request. He would infact soon make his rendezvous with the expedition, adding his retinue of himself, a camel and the 3rd Platoon, 2nd Company, of the Royal Diplomatic Guard Regiment, to that of the expedition. The Royal Diplomatic Guards is made up of veteran soldiers of other regiments, and being transferred to the Guards is considered almost as prestiguous as the Royal Guard itself. Further, it is more suitable for the adventureous, following the diplomats of Corrington around. ____________________________________________ For the sake of the form, the troops assigned are: 3rd Platoon, 2nd Company, Royal Diplomatic Guard Regiment (Corrington) 5th Platoon, 3rd Company, 1st ETTC Regiment of Sepoys (ETTC) I am excited to be part of this expedition and to try out the adventure MRCA. The two builds above serves as the builds required for the raising of troops and to add a little to the story (and introduce mr. Sherman.). @Lord Buckethead: I am liking the story so far, and your idea of a new Royal Society sounds very interesting - I hope it will attract other Corlanders interested in Military technology and theory. I am thinking someone should take a correctional conversation with that bullying sergeant, or perhaps do some teambuilding to bring the scientists and the soldiers closer together! ;) Most definitely not! Science is generally highly regarded in Corrington. But of course, the scientists may have been unpleasant, or gotten off on the wrong foot with the soldiers. You never know, but it does appear somewhat un-Corrish! -

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

The links in the master index should now be updated to the new rules and forms. Please let us know, if you find any broken or outdated links so we can fix it. -
Did you register the builds by the freebuild forms? And yes, at the turn of a month, there can be some delay. :)

She's a lovely little sloop, Spud. (What you are looking for is a "bermuda" rigged sloop, though ;) ) I think the rigging turned out really nice - what material did you use for the sails? I quite like the texture. As to stats, are you aware that you can design your own stats? A class 1 has 9 stat points to distribute, so depending on what you want her to do, you can customize her. Example if you want to use her for mid range trade you could go for something like this: Class Cost Stat Points Range Maneuver Firepower Crew Cargo Hull Sum (1-6) (1-6) (0-12) (0-12) (0-15) (0-12) 1 60 9 2 3 0 0 4 0 9 I think you might have been looking at the old links in the master index leading you to the old rules. I will look into fixing the links.

Typo will be fixed. Thanks! :) 1) Yes, it is possible. You will need a vessel to get there, and possibly troops for exploration. (Each turn, some resource must be committed, so if the ship stays, you don't need troops, as the crew can make up the explorers. Alternatively, you can use the vessel to drop of the troops. Then the vessel can leave when it has dropped off the troops.) 2) I would say that 100 DBs will get you very far. But of course, it depends on your mission, and it's length. Exploring the old world will likely leave many more options to spend currency, while going into the unknown will leave less, as there might not be anyone to trade with. And perhaps natives will be content with some coloured pearls or metal objects, which represents very little value. And it is perfectly reasonable to go with a treasury, although that will limit your options. However, during the Adventure, you may build up a treasury too, if you make any profits (depends on the story), so even an expedition with no initial treasury may end up with funds on its hands. I hope this clarified it somewhat. Otherwise, feel free to ask.
