The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think it should be possible to do a simple tutorial on the names of different sails and rigging types, but my guess is that there are already several fitting wikipedia articles. It would therefore seem somewhat like doublework. It might be more relevant to make a quick-index of the most relevant links (wikipedia and others), rather than compiling the information seperately. In fact, I would rather suggest people going to wikipedia themselves, but I understand that can be hard, if you do not really know what you are looking for! Are we sure there isn't already a ressource in the pirate forum?- 897 replies

Wow, I really enjoy your narrative style. It is very dramatic, and goes well with the dramatic story. I think the fog in the first pic is a bit too much, but appreciate the dramatic effect. It's all about learning!

[OL Ch1a] Following the noise
Bregir replied to robinnilsson403's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Cool entry, Robin. I like the dancing natives, and your storytelling with those "point of view" photos works really well. As you say yourself, the lightning isn't perfect, but it works reasonably well. I agree, there could be a few more details on the ground below. -
You also need to register it by the webform, Dr., but other than that, you are correct. I think you are able to do almost any transaction you should like, as long as you have the money for it.

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@AA: If you don't want a square sail, maybe just adding a small topmast to the main mast and a triangular sail between the gaff and the mast would do the trick? Right now its name escapes me, but you can see it on many schooners and ketches :)- 897 replies

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
New freebuild from me: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=120214#entry2446151 @AA: Looking good sofar (although the pic is a little dark). The idea of a bomb ketch is really cool To be true to the ketch rigging, I would suggest adding a topmast to the mainmast, and putting on a squaresail. Historically, ketches typically had square sails on the main (forward and tallest mast), with fore and aft rig on the mizzen.- 897 replies

As part of the original charter, I will caution investors that defaulting on payment will have considerable negative consequences for the whole venture. Thus, one might endanger the execution of the expedition. I am not saying you will face arbitration towards covering lost profits, but I am not saying you wont either! Therefore, please ensure that you are able to raise the necessary funds! @Maxim: Indeed - it is interesting that it is Corlander initiative that attracts so much interest... And might even be bringing the three Trade Companies into closer collaboration!

Captains personal log, 35th day, New Terra Expd., 48o 43'' 15' E, 68o 23'' 36'; off unknown Island In a few minutes, we shall embark the jolly-boat and go investigate that curious cove from whence the natives came. It is odd how things turn out - When Montoya first approached me with the offer I was quite shocked. To leave the Queens Service for a personal, scientific expedition! Had not the Crown itself sanctioned the expedition, I should never have left the service! However, I must admit that being under the command of none but my closest friend does instill a certain degree of freedom. No royal yard to question my decisions on rigging, no overzealous armory commander questioning my choice of armament, or the barrels of powder used in gunnery practise... I never quite fathomed how rigid the service really was, I suppose. Of course, the ship being the Athena did spur my motivation, even though she was in a sorry old state when Montoya bought her from the lists... Condition regardless, she was my very first command, and one never forgets one's first command! 'Tis good she was completely refitted, and I must say she has responded well to the efforts. I shall never forget the first time I saw her again, after being decomissioned from the Royal Navy. Lying there at the shipyard, waiting to have her masts removed. Never there was a more beautiful sight... I had to try Gideon's forced perspective thingy! I am not entirely happy with the amount of blur in the background, but blurring it more didn't really seem to answer. Looking forward to hearing what you think - if you like it (and are not a corlander), please approve, as it is my third freebuild this month.

I love this ship, Mike - the colours give it a very dramatic look, and it has some nice curves in the hull with the red detailing. While the fore- and sterncastles are very tall, I think you have done a good job in making the transitions look good. It looks like a ship from the early age of sail, with the tall fighting platforms fore and aft! The curved back is nicely done, as is the captains cabin, and the figurehead is just lovely! The rigging is looking good too, and you have included a lot of good details, like shrouds and ratlines all the way up to the crows nest. Don Isaac Montoya hereby confirms his investment in this venture. 1) Sig fig registration fee 25 DB 2) FB1: Intro build 10 DB 3) FB2: The Sphinx 10 db For a total of: 45 db I have no other expenditures. Glad you like the prospect write up - My clerk is available should you ever need something similar! (I am actually considering setting up a business for this ) It is our hope that Woodbrose will be able to participate in this investment. (Now, Ska, get those two freebuilds out there! ) I agree that investors should supply "proof" that they are able to fund their investment. However, should one investor happen to have only 35 available, the 15 db buffer in the project could actually allow the venture to proceed (given that the investor puts in the 35 db, and that the rest of the investors accepts him delaying payment for the next month.)

That dark red is a really nice colour and it goes surprisingly well with white. The pull out room is a nice feature too. Approved!

Nice minifigs and great little house - the roof and walls are really nicely designed. I love the fishes hanging under the cloth. Your boat is nice too, although it does seem rather strangely rigged. I do not think I have ever seen a small boat with a square sail - typically, it would have some sort of fore and aft rig. However, I like the folded up sails on the spar. The wavy water is looking good too!

Lovely cornfield, Kai - I like the denseness of it, and I kind of like the use of yellow. While it may not be the most realistic colour, it adds a lovely classical lego feel to it! However, I have never seen a scythe used like that - typically (and more safely) it is used along the ground. For use like this, I would suggest a sickle instead. This looks rather dangerous!

[OL - FB3] Little Hermes trade ship
Bregir replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Cool little sloop there! The quarter deck detailing is really nice and that winged warrior is great for figurehead! It looks like a fine balanced class 2 vessel, so I would estimate it as a class 2 WR. Is there any particular reason why you do not use it ýourself for the MRCA? Have you already licensed a ship, or are you not going to participate? (In any case, letting someone borrow it is a really nice initiative! ) The rigging is looking nice - what are the material for the sails? A few suggestions: Add a jib to the forestay - should make her perform better nearer to the wind. Further, I think the mast is looking a bit short. Adding a topmast and moving the square sail up above the spanker sail would make them pull better together (right now, they are taking eachother's wind. That way, you would have a topsail sloop. I couldn't seem to find other freebuilds from you, but I might very well be wrong. However, I just want to make sure you know challenge entries does not count as freebuilds. In case I am mistaken, I hereby approve! -
I don't see why not - whether it is on one 16x32 or two 16x16 should make no difference, as long as sufficient effort I put into each. This way, people who wish to build a large setup, can include several buildings for the EGS in the land- or cityscape. And I don't see why we would want to discourage that! ;)

Duel: Hugo d'Offren VS Elysabeth of Drondil

I would guess everyone should be able to set up a bet, if he can find someone to bet against? I am not perfectly sure I am the right one to handle bookmaking, you see... When you post a duel thread, I will, as your second, help devise the rules for the duel.- 55 replies

[COR - Ch1, CatA] Ahoy, fishermen!
Bregir replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great scene - the landscaping is simple but effective, and you have fitted in a lot of activity with both the men fishing, the children playing, the woman working with the hides, and the of course the landing. Your posing is nice, although I would suggest you try to angle some of the minifigs a bit - right now, they are all positioned very angular. (I know - Lego, but still! ) I think the bench in the boat is a nice detail, and it is good to see my fellow corlanders taking a peaceful approach to the natives! (Not like them fundementalist Oleanders or profit-hungry Eslandonians!) -
