Nice looking vessel, Puvel. I think you pulled of the brick built sails pretty well, although I would suggest you at least try sails of cloth or paper at some point - it is much easier to make look realistic. I like the low hull, although I doubt she will be a very dry ship in harsh weather! In fact, I would much prefer to use her in coastal waters where the shallow draft is her advantage! On the high seas, I would be afraid to be swept off the deck, and her lack of a cabin makes her somewhat unsuited for long journeys! I agree the cannons look a bit too large, so perhaps trying brick built guns another time would be an idea. Overall, really nice ship - the gold accents are really nice, and I really like those railings. Well done! I approve!

GReat looking house - I like the colourfulness of the whole thing - our world should not be bleak and grey!

This little house strikes the perfect balance between simple realism and interesting details. The roof is great, and the combination of white and tan works very well. Your choice of windows and doors is great. I like the integrated chimney, and the interior is just great. The fireplace is my favourite detail, and I am sooo jealous on that goat! Edit: I approve

Nice looking rockwork and waves there, but as others have said, it is really the story that steals the show. I am most amused!

Nice looking quayside Captain! I like the life on the quay and there are a lot of nice details, as well as a lot of different subscenes. The red building doesn't seem to fit in perfectly, though - for some reason it looks too modern. I think it is the large, unbroken wall panels and the windows. I enjoyed the story too - and sure hope it is NOT a court martial he is heading for!

Fun littlle build. I do feel bad for the pig, though! The overall quality of your freebuilds (including this one) has been very good, so I am going to approve. But the more freebuilds you post per month, the more critical you should expect the judging to be in terms of size and quality. Otherwise we risk people just spouting out low quality builds for the doubloons. As long as you are progreesing the story in high quality builds, I see no problems, but I just thought I would mention it.

[SR - Ch:1 Cat:B] No one expects the Olean Inquisition....
Bregir replied to Vedauwoo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Very dramatic build - It seems BoBS will not be limited to innocent subject matter. Are we to assume that this is official Oleander policy, or that this inquisitor is acting on his own initiative, I wonder. I like the rocky shores, but agree with Cpt. Dee that those white curved pieces doesn't really do the trick. Overall, nice entry, although you seem to have been too late in your discovery, as those Oleon fanatics beat you to it!- 9 replies

The Fighting Clipper is pulled to her final berth
Bregir replied to Franco Clarke's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
What a great way to retire a ship, sir! I think you really matched the atmosphere of the original build well, even though you exchanged the steamer with a couple of (more fitting) row boats. Great work and very dramatic presentation. -
Highly amusing story, Pompe. Your ship design is very unique, as are the colours and characters! I really like how you have included the full depth of the hull, and furnished it with beds and cargo. And the ladders are a nice detail too. I am not entirely sold on your jollyboat, but in this size you are quite limited in the design. It sort of looks too modern, I think. I think this is closest to a xebec, although it does confound me a bit. I like the use of these sails, and the technique for the hull is great. (I actually have a gun boat built in much the same way.) The lack of a bowsprit does give it a somewhat chubby look, though, but I do not think it retracts from the build. Overall great work!

Thank you all for your feedback. It would have been an advantage to have the foreground in colours more distinct from the background. Another issue with the depth of field is the depth of the background. It will have a different degree of blurriness, and more than what is explainable by differences in distance. As requested, a photo with a different depth of field:

[SR - Ch:1 Cat:A] Casualties of the storm...

Those sure look like some frightening natives - I am not too sure I would let them board my ship! The story is nice, and I like all the things they have stuffed into that canoe. The base works well too. Further, I like the detail shots from your ship. Well done!- 6 replies

Nice wall technique, Maxim! I don't think I have ever seen it before. I would suggest some sort of overhanging roof - it doesn't seem to me to work that well in its current design. A simple overhang may be all it needs. The best thing of this moc is definitely the interior, and I will be looking forward to seeing if it attracts in ship brokering! Edit: I approve.

Nice landscaping and good looking figs. Those Oleander soldiers look like they could be a wee bit too zealous in their faith! I like the alternative take on the new world with snow and a colder climate. Keep it up!- 8 replies

[COR - FB3] The Quinnsville Commerce House
Bregir replied to Tomsche's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice little build, Tomsche. You've included a lot of nice details, although I would suggest a cleaner style. It seems like it a bit to cluttered with all the studs, different colours, flags, and very low floors. I would suggest tryring for finer finish, but otherwise nice build! Boobs... Boobs everywhere! -
Really nice to see a different kind of ship here! I really like this junk, and it really fits the characters well. The stumpy bow and the overhanging stern looks really nice and fits the ship type really well. Further, the placement of the masts is very unique for Junks, especially with the aft-most mast. I think the sail work pretty well too, although those three different sails will make it a very easy vessel to spot, should Fang ever find a bounty on his head! I really like the integrated cabin and the internal details, but I would definitely claim this to be a 8 gun vessel (even though in RL you may have only 4), as it seems to have two broadsides of each 4 guns. As always, the story is really cool, and I like the inbuilt tension between the captain and his son! I approve!

Nice intro, Kaiju - I too like a bit of action. I think this is a great way to introduce a pirate! The use of brick-bricks to show the edges of the broken building is great!

[ESL-CH 1a] "Maybe we can trade with'em?"
Bregir replied to TitusV's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great little story and build, Titus. It looks like those explorers are in for a surprise! I'd suggest you work a bit on cropping your photos. I noticed it in one of your other posts too (I think it was the fortress). Some of them show far too much of the surroundings, while others seem to have been cropped too much, taking away the edges. I personally use "Photos" which is standard, at least in my version of Windows 10. It allows me to do basic corrections like cropping, straightening, colour corrections, etc. It is really user friendly, so it is perfect if you do not feel like getting into more advanced editors like photoshop, gimp, etc. Just make sure not to overdo the editing! -
[COR - FB 2] The Bounty Office at Arlinsport
Bregir replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice story and cool building, Ska. I am impressed you can find the time for building with all the administrative task you have in running this! But anyways, real life is overrated! I should think that amount of purple detailing would make it look rather girly, but for some reason it doesn't. Again, alternative colours prove they are actually of more use than normally assumed! Will be looking forward to bounty mission! Nonsense, yeah right. Don't you worry, little mr. Dee - W-E... A-R-E.... H-E-R-E.... T-O.... H-E-L-P.... Y-O-U..! -
Really nice outrigger, Gideon - the sail is very well posed, and it looks very dynamic. I wonder, though, how that (obviously very concentrated, by the look on his face) fisherman is handling the net, while the canoe is sailing, and why there is absolutely no lean to the canoe? While the first might be case of trawling, the latter seems more like an issue... I'd suggest giving the whole canoe some lean as induced by the sail pressure. As little as one or to plates in height difference between left and right outrigger mught be sufficient to make it even more dynamic and natural.

[COR - Ch 1B] Land! There is land straight ahead!
Bregir replied to Mike S's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is possibly my favourite entry amongst them all so far. The forest and structure looks great in that perspective, and I have to try something similar at some point. I wonder, however, where the stone for that structure came from, on such a small island... The natives must have sailed them there from elsewhere? Or cut out blocks from the coral? Maybe we will know more of this later... What parts did you use to create that island? Is it a transparent plate with yellow underneath? How did you do the green part? I need to know!!! -
Nice ship, Ska - I really like the colourscheme, but my favourite part of this ship is that nicely integrated, sleek cabin. Both in height and in shape it fits into the hull perfectly. I like the diverse group of minifigs. However, I wonder at the fleshie - any particular idea behind him? As to the rigging, I like your rationalisation (IC and OOC ). One suggestion (which might be hard to execute, though.) would be to add some broken spars and sails to emphazise the damage done. But I suppose they have already, in a very seamanlike manner, removed all the broken parts All in all - nice vessel - and nice use of parts. (I like that wheel, although it might be on the modern side.)

[OL - FB3] Little Hermes trade ship
Bregir replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
It definitely looks better with a jib! Gives it a more balance look. However, I am going to maintain that increasing the mast height 5-10 cm and moving the squaresail upwards accordingly would improve it even further. (Do not feel obliged to do it - it is more of a general remark for future ships. ) Typically, on one-masted ships, the mast is taller than the length of the hull. On the other hand, there are plenty of examples of overlap between square and spanker sail, so perhaps it would simply be best to add another squaresail on the topmast. See for instance this pic: http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads2/navy_sloop.jpg Anyways, she is still a lovely little vessel ship (I really shouldn't be calling her a ship, since she isn't a full rigged ship ), and it is really cool that you show us the result from adding the jib! Thanks! You have awoken the Kraken! (Oh my - I probably got myself on that list too now... )
