We are seeing such a great amount of these specialised craftsmen buildings. Both interior and exterior is great, and I like how he is stirring in the brew with an oar. Well done and definitely approved!

Quite a cast of characters, Mike!

Nice little vig, BrickWolf - I think too that their lives will soon be changed a lot! I will say the same as I said to your other build: The overall composition is nice, as is the minifigs, but I would suggest you put in a bit more effort in the build - in this case, a brickbuilt canoe (not easy, I know ) or maybe some larger waves could be a suggestion. I understand that you might be limited by the bricks available, but I hope the advice is still useful.

I had a suspicion that it was O'Brian's work somewhere behind this - I have just started reading them for the third or fourth time And yes, you really need to keep your mind straight to keep up with the terminologies - but I suppose it's the same with BoBS in general!

[COR-starting challenge] the march to the port
Bregir replied to Brickwolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice troops, Brickwolf - It will be interesting to see what missions they will embark upon when they reach the new world! The composition of the build is nice too, with the path in the foreground and the halfwall and plants in the background. However, I would suggest more texturing of the landscape. For instance building up the landscape so that the path is lower than the surrounding landscape. At the same time, fewer straight lines would look nice too. Although Corrington science is bound to result in straighter roads than in other lands! All in all, nice little vignette, but it could use some more work. Keep it up! -

Nice little tier 0/1 vessels, Franco - I think the hulls look great, especially on the second one! The blue and gold accents work really well. I totally understand your issues with the railing - I have had similar issues with several builds myself! I too would suggest experimenting with sails and rigging - even simple paper sails and a bit of standing rigging (stays and shrouds) can really improve the look and feel. Afterall, it is a pretty prominent part of a "sailing" boat... Are you considering licensing any of these?

[COR - intro] Billy Dodger's first assignment
Bregir replied to Pimbo's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I like the two interiors - they are great backdrops to the story and have many great details. I particularly like the globestand. The story is really nice too, and I will be looking forward to hearing more! The dockside is great - I like the gate, and all the details on the quay - but obviously the highlight is the vessel(s). The idea of refitting a damaged ship and painting it in proper Corrington colours is great. But to actually build another "copy" is really something extra! I think she looks nice in both liveries, and I really like the brick-built guns. The cabin looks great and the hull looks great from all angles. As to the rigging, that is really nice too - my only comment is, that the mainmast looks like its a bit too far forward. All in all, great work!- 16 replies

[ESL - CH 1B] About stones, ores and berries
Bregir replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice landscaping, Elostirion! The combination of slopes, wing plates and vegetation works well, and although the loose parts at first disagreed with my OCD, the effect is quite striking. I am not too sure about the "sunset effect", so I think it is good you did not choose that one as your main photo... The only thing that looks odd to me is the way the backpack hangs on the cliffs. It just doesn't look natural to me. -
I was wondering when we would see some light galleys/gunboats here! (I have a gunboat coming up, my self) I think you did a pretty good job of cramming in all the necessary details at this scale, with rowers, marines and armament, although the fighting platform does look a bit exposed! Perhaps you should extend the oars a bit, as they are currently having a bit of trouble reaching the water! As Captain Dee, I would suggest lowering the ram a bit, so it appears just at the waterline, where it will obviously do most damage. What are the hull pieces you have used? As to the rigging, the mast should be moved forward a bit, and the sail lowered a bit - right now it would most definitely have a tendency to making her gripe (I think that is the right word: React to violently on the rudder and havea tendency to turn when it shouldn't), and I fear the sail that high up will have a tendency to push her bow down, encumbering her progress... Overall, nice build - I am looking forward to seeing how she does in action! And you really should have some more 1 zone trade ships (for instance building a class 1 T or class 3 Junk/Barge), as you would then be able to trade much more under the same excort! (Or suggest others to do the same to sail with you. )

Feast at "The Spin of Fate" - FB1
Bregir replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I shall be looking forward to judging your builds - expect a year-long deliberation, for which the judges must go to a tropical retreat to confer with the rules, the builds and eachother... Can I have the billing address once more? Nice party, and loads of nice details and figs. The posing is very nice, and it looks very lively, but I would suggest a bit more polishing with tiles etc. -
[CORR - MRCA Jan] Attacked by Privateers!
Bregir replied to SilentWolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Really nice build, Silent Wolf! I think it is an innovative approach to show the action from the enemy's decks - plus, you won't have to build a complete enemy ship! I like the plumes of smoke from the firing guns, and the enemy "ship" has just the right amount of detail to make it clear what it is - Well done! -
Brilliantly amusing build, Kai - I will definitely keep an eye on my own books for the coming months! I suppose white is actually the closest colour to many RL beaches, but our customs with lego dictate that white is either snow or whitewashed walls, so it takes two looks to acknowledge it as sand Plus, it seems rather cold in this pic - maybe turn up the temperature of the colours would help make it look more sandy?

I really like your story, and it is accompanied by these really nice builds. As you asked for furniture feedback, I will say this - its awesome! I particularly like the big cabinet and the model of a brig(?) on the shelf! More tiles would help, but I think this was pulled off nicely without them too. I agree the chairs look a tad modern, but I like the innovative design nonetheless! The best part is the realism of the story, really - How you depict the troubles of getting a command! May one ask from whence you draw your inspiration?

Nice bank, Scarst - I really love that roof colour and I think the building looks nice and sturdy,as a bank should be! As the others have said, some texturing for the ground in front of the bank would be nice, but otherwise, nice detailing. When will the bank open for business? And what sort of interest will it offer on deposits?

Coyle Shipping Co. February MRCA Escorted Trade runs
Bregir replied to Mike S's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ibn al'Sayeed was very happy with the conduct of the convoy last month and should like to join with the Sphinx (speed 3) again this month. -
I think cb4's point is that he would rather have it the other way around, i.e. fewer raiders but higher risk of meeting one, if there is one in the zone. I sort of support that. It would make route selection more strategic, as you would have to consider where raiders are likely to be, and give player raiders a better chance of an encounter. But as there would be fewer raiders overall, merchants wouldn't really feel the difference in risk. Keeping the npc traders is fine for me - it makes the seas more alive - but I don't necessarily think there should be raiders in all zones. I would still maintain the current mechanics for what happens when an encounter occurs, as they seem to work rather well.

Also if it is already moc'ed? Say for instance someone captured my Sphinx - it does make much sense to require them to recreate it

MAESTRO: an Eslandolan Trade Company
Bregir replied to Maxim I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Presenting: The Unsinkable.... 2! -
I think you missed my edited in question... A captured ship equals a captured license (with a possible additional repair and 3+ license fee to pay), but if it isn't moc'ed (as it was a npc-trader, for instance) it cannot be considered ready to be used for MRCA. At least, that is my suggestion! Then, if you don't want to moc the ship, you can sell the captured ship to someone else, who can then moc it and use it for MRCA. (Probably at a reduced price compared to an already moc'ed ship.)

I suggest that capturing or purchasing already licensed ships, that will bring you over the 3, 6, or 9 limit should simply require the remaining fee to be paid. (Eg. 50 % of 300). And what happens if a player capture a NPC ship that hasn't been moc'ed? I suppose you would have to moc it before it can be used?

I too suggest adding it to the fleet - I should think we could pay for the upkeep with our current economy. Otherwise, we can ask the flotilla that uses her for escort to pay for upkeep that turn.- 897 replies
