@Fuzzy: Yes, I believe they are still valid, and I believe some sea rats did it last month, finding some rumoured lost treasure.

Great work, Prhed. I too like the diagonal rafters holding up the upper workings, and I am a fellow fan of that dark blue roof. The interior is really nice too and overall, the house looks rather stately, while it maintains modest proportions fitting for the new world. My only gripe is that the pictures look a bit off, in some way. Might be the whitebalance, but others are more qualified to address this than I.

[Esl - MRCA Feb] : Apples for Belson
Bregir replied to Tezclatipoca's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Really nice and lively quayside, Faladrin! You have depicted the busy docks with all the cargo very well, and I like the small waves on the water, as well as the buildings lining the quay. I also like the simple, concise log book entries. Well done! -
A question. If a player has more than 3 vessels, a license penalty is imposed. Is there any such thing for factions, or are there only the upkeep? (Which may or may not be active yet?) I am undecided on my own opinion on this, but wonder if not the difference in these aspects risks leading weaker minds to game the system?

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion

Welcome, mr. Breguet. May your health soon improve! -
Both are really nice, and I cannot believe I haven't yet commented on them. The hulls have a nice shape (although tiling the railings would probably give them a more polished look), but I prefer the Wringe II. Will we see a full post for the Wringe II? Seems like you have updated more than just the colour! The highlighst, however, are the rigging (on both.). I like how boom and gaff are both suspended realistically by ropes to the mast. The different stays and shrouds look great too, apart from a mainsheet, the rig is basically completely functional. You have made a fine case for how great paper sails can look, and I really like how you have made them curve like they are filled with wind. My only gripe with the rigging is that to truly be a cutter, she would need at least one more forestay to carry another headsail.

It does sort of look like something out of an amusement park with those big signs, but I kinda like it. Looks more like a temporary stall than a permanent one, though. On the other hand, I think this is the first example of the non-attached tile technique I really like, and the signs are very well-designed. I approve (Corrington).

Haha, Rick is a man after my heart! Always dream for more! I like the way you have recreated the same scene with some minor differences for some very dramatic effect. Should we wish for Rick to be able to live out his daydreams? I am not too convinced he would quite have the skills necessary!

I like the festive atmosphere you have created with the flags and their outfits, and the instruments look very "native". Nice vignette and cool alternative approach.

[ESL-FB] A young lawyer moves to the islands
Bregir replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a great use of those old wallpieces - I really like the look of this house. The stone sides, the tudor front and that roof is all very nice, and I really enjoyed the story too. The cobblestone might look a wee bit too regular, but otherwise, I have no comments! One wonders when we will see the first need of a lawyer. Of course, the Naval Licensing and Prize Court was just introduced... We will soon have a fully fledged judiciary system! -
That is some beautiful headlights... Erhm... I mean... Great looking Xebec, Ayrlego. I too love xebecs, and this is a great example. The overhanging sterncaste is looking really good, and very characteristic for xebecs. I really like how it is detailed and well-finished all over, and details like the boats on deck, the cannons and the weapons stored on deck. Lanterns and figurehead are nice too. Suggestions for improvements. Hull - I like what you have done with tumblehome and overall shape, but I think it might benefit from a little more curvature, as that is very typical of xebecs. Rigging - I like the current rigging, especially the rake of the mizzen. And I don't think you should add a jib - as far as my research is concerned, I agree with cb4. Xebecs would probably mainly wear headsails when they used square rig. Normally the lateens would give plenty of performance close to the wind. I do agree that the foremost mast could be stepped further forwards and raked well forwards, to give it a more balanced rig. Currently, the center of the sail pressure is a little far aft, which would make her hard to steer. I also think a lighter string for the rigging would improve the look a bit - And you could add standing rigging (stays) to the masts as well, making it look more elaborate. You have, however, done a good job so far - the sails are really nice too, btw. Great job, all in all - the above is really nitpicking. As to rating, I think you can easily get away with the 5F. The fast ships would typically be sleeker and smaller than more bulky, roomy cargo ships. If there was a class 4F, that might be slightly better, but I really don't see any issue with registering her as a 5F, as she is comparable to other class 5 vessels. As to financing, I might know someone who would assist you... I'll send you a PM.

The Empire of Eslandola: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to kabel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I'd say that is over-complicating it, really. If I held an auction, I would ask a third party to take bids bids per pm, simply. :) Possibly letting people know who had the winning bid. (Next highest bid + x, not the max bid submitted)- 780 replies

Brickseas.com - a structured index for BoBS
Bregir replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great initiative, Elostirion. Would it be possible to let everyone upload their own builds. A few admins from each factions could then be tasked with approving the builds, before they become active on the page? (I have no clue how these things work - and it might not be easy to code, but it would probably make management and updating much easier ) -

Theoretically, people could bid what they wanted to pay in good time, so I wouldn't say it was unfair. However, I think closed bid, or a dutch auction might be a better solution. In any case, it was a first, and we need these experiments to figure out what works, and what doesn't. It might just be, that no one needed or were interested in those specific types of licenses. Or that the moc'ing deadlines kept bidders away. Edit: Or make it so that people submit their maximum bid to an independent third party. The highest bidder thus wins the auction, paying the second highest bid plus 5 dbs. (To a maximum of his own bid.) Obviously, this third part would take a fee for managing it... Maybe this would be a task for Maxim's ship broker)- 780 replies

I am only on the Court for Naval Licensing, so I have actually no clue. However, somewhere else, the general position was, that we shouldn't start bending the rules, as that would be hard to control. If I wanted or needed to license it as a medium residence, I could simply have built a larger base with more of the road, and the problem would have dissapeared!
-
If the original moc is sufficient in size and form for the larger rating/license, it will generally be accepted. However, if you have captured, bought or build a class 3A and want to uplicense it to a 4a, we would probably ask to see some sort of moc and story to justify it. It doesn't need to be the actual vessel being upgraded, if you can find some other creative (and substantial) way to show it. The same goes for changing roles - if it makes sense, we are likely to accept it. (Eg. from a 3A to a 3T could be a warship being decommisioned and turned into a trader. A small story about this would probably be enough) At least, that is my take on the roles. Justify the change substantially (rating and/or type) and I will vote yes. As Sir Stig says, if it can inspire creative building and storytelling, I am willing to make leeway for the EGS. But if my impression is that it is more a question about getting ingame advantages, I am not. Hope this makes sense. /Bregir *Disclaimer* The other judges or the Supreme courts have not confirmed this. It is merely my interpretation of the letter and spirit of the rules.
-
Well, without having conferred with my fellow judges I will say this. Every "instance" of licensing has to make IC sense. So if it starts as a 2T, because it is a warship sailing in ballast to be outfitted at a larger port, there to become a 3A, then I suppose it makes sense. What is important for my ruling is that there is a sense to it, both in terms of the build, and the story behind it. However, it will have to be an individual assesment. Making a build showing an upgrade will, by the general logic, make us more prone to accepting it.

The Supreme Courts of the Brick Seas* has decided to establish a Naval Licensing and Prize Court, delegating the discretion over all matters related to the licensing of ships and the condemnation of prizes. The Supreme Courts have appointed a judge from each faction, in order for the Naval Court to function unbiased and independently of faction interests.** Licensing of ships Generally, once a vessel is licensed, there is no changing the license. Neither can a license, for instance a capture, be upgraded to a larger license. However, there are some exceptions, which will be handled by this court. Up-licensing a vessel For vessels with a license smaller than what the related MOC justifies, it may be possible to increase the license, when the funds become available. The general rule is that the maximum rating of the vessel should be included, when the vessel is first posted. In these cases, the vessel can generally be up-licensed without further ado. (Given that the suggested rating has not been contested.) All other cases (including ships posted before this rule) will be evaluated on a case to case basis, where this court will decide whether a vessel can justify a bigger license. Captured licenses As with normal licenses, the rating of a capture is generally fixed. Thus, for example, a 4T cannot be upgraded to a 5T. Instead, unwanted licenses (captures) can be sold through the prize courts (See below) or to other players/factions. However, if a substantial MOC is presented, showing the vessel being suitably upgraded, and approved by this court, exceptions to this rule can be granted. However, uprating more than one step will generally not be accepted. The extent of the MOC must represent the extent of the upgrade. General licensing issues Other issues can also be brought before this court, where it will act as an advisory and mediating organ, before cases are brought before the Supreme Courts. Condemnation of Prizes Captured vessels can either be put into the fleets of the capturer, sold to other factions or individuals, or condemned as a prize. Condemning the capture as a prize represents it being sold to the breakers yard or auctioned away to the old world, meaning that the vessels will be removed from the game world. IC, the outcomes below represents the uncertainty of the outcome of such an auction. Prizes brought before this court will be condemned by the following procedure: A 6-sided die will be cast, and the outcome will decide the result of the prize auction as a share of the license value: 20 % 30 % 40 % 50 % 60 % 75 % If the prize is MOC'ed (e.g. the capture of a player vessel), 25 % is added to the outcome. Eg. rolling 3 for 40 % will mean you get 65 % of the license value. NB: Prizes taken by independent pirates and ships flying black flags roll a 3-sided die for the outcomes: 1: 50 %, 2: 60 %, 3: 75 %. Bonus for a moc'ed vessel is added hereto. Applications for license changes, licensing issues and prizes to be condemned are to be presented before this court (in this thread), and will then be processed with all possible expedience. Decisions of this court can be appealed to the Supreme Courts, although only after a settlement with this court itself cannot be reached. Signed, stamped, and sealed. Once more, I resent the implicit allegations that Corlander vessels should be engaging in piracy, that vilest of acts! Reading one of your other stories, I was actually wondering if we would see this vessel that needed to be strengthened due to the large gun! And here it was. I think this is a nice way to represent an otherwise eventless journey, and I like all three vessels. It would like to see you experiment a bit with sails. (Even simple paper sails can improve the overall look tremendously - at least I think it does for me. Further, it makes the type of vessel a lot more obvious. Sailing ships are, after all, pretty dependent on their sails! ) For the warship, I would probably suggest them to bring some oars as well, if not for propulsion, then to aim the cannon! The raft is a wonderful collection of driftwood, and really looks like something someone would have put together from parts of a wreckage! Well done! Sure you are! A life saved is another life to sacrifice to the Gods!

Woah, great looking vessel - will we see more of her? Or have we already, and I missed it?
