Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
A small WIP teaser of my Barqa build for the exhibition in Skaerbaek, right now playing with the Lifelites I bought at Brickworld The small yellow diodes are actually flickering, although the pattern is changing a bit too slow to look like flickering flames of Kaliphlin black oil lamps they are supposed to represent. As you can see there are still a couple of houses and a large section of the wall missing... -
Thanks guys! I'm happy that my relatively quick build turned out as I had envisioned it before building it, and even more happy that you liked it! Yea, I wasn't too happy with those camel loads either... Any suggestions for improvements? These camels tend to appear in my Kaliphlin builds now and then so I would not mind improving that.

The story of Lord Mortis - Part 2 [Freebuild]
Gideon replied to Jorrith's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very nice mountain path, I really like how the whole build is rising towards the back as it gives a very believable mountain look. Nice to see some mountain mummies again, its been too long! 10224 is such a great parts pack! I picked up a second one just for the parts -
Nice objects, I agree that these kind of details often get lost in larger builds and don't get the attention/discussion they deserve. I really like the bellows, that's a very clever technique (the engineer in me is slways keeping me from thinking in those terms of half-attached pieces when I am building...). The grinding stone would probably be improved by adding a round tile with hole on the studded side (and turn this side towards the camera when using it in a build). I also think that wooden parts (like the sides of the frame for the grinding wheel) are better done studless with tiles.

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Wow! Avalonia is also rapidly recruiting new members, a warm welcome to GoH to you all! -
(Continuing the discussion here in a more appropriate thread) Looking forward to meeting you there and seeing some of what you the Drow have built! It seems like all my smaller builds will be at the same table as you, so there's definitely some GoH representation in that part of the hall as well! I think the GoH table you are referring to is some kind of collab that Ecc et al have been up to building? That will no doubt be awesome!

There is a specific thread for discussing GoH participation at Fan Events 2014, I will continue there. Anyway, looking forward to meeting you there and seeing some of what you the Drow have built!

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Gideon replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Another peaceful Kaliphlin freebuild. -
The life as a merchant in the Kaliphlin desert can be very hard, but for some traders who know the secret wells along the scarcely visible camel trails there is much profit to be made by taking these shortcuts! Previous builds

Tap Ska on the shoulder? (ie send a PM to remind him ) -
Well said mccoyed. (I agree that the term 'guilds' is a bit misleading here, but I've accepted it as the GoH term for province). I suppose a civilization in Historica can call themselves whatever they, I just pointed out that the choice of words can affect how smoothly a player's contribution can be integrated with other players lore. What I also want to emphasize is that it's best to start out building the story from one or a few characters and let the story and builds grow over time as other players become familiar with it and the builds improve with the feedback from the community.

Great scene and minifig posing! I really like the use of that face But it seems a bit chilly to have bare arms in that climate?
-
Very cute build! Not what I would typically associate Mitgardia with, but I like that the greener season there gets shown as well! Great to hear that your bricks are unpacked
-
Great idea! I've not been entirely satisfied with the other kind of backpack as camel packs...
-
Deep in my dark ages... Might have to get a few used ones of those some time however, they look great!

The University of Petraea's Doctorate of Historica Program
Gideon replied to NiceMarmot's topic in Guilds of Historica
Congratulations Kai! I think that any build which is reposted in GoH and fits the GoH context could be eligible for UoP credits, so I don't have a problem with a pirate MOC unless of course if its not fitting in the GoH setting.- 343 replies

Nice and suitable phase 1 store I like how you've framed the build with that wall in the background.
-
Be careful with the word "empire", it might be taken as boasting by some My advice is to start at a reasonable scale (a mountain valley with an isolated civilization is a great start imho).
-
Very nice gate and towers, I especially like how you've managed to roof them so well Those tan round bricks by the gate would have been better spent breaking up the symmetry in the towers however imho, as the bands of dk bley cylinders draw my attention to the building technique used instead of just letting me enjoy the excellent shape of the towers. UoP +1 for grasslands.

Nice colors and great interior! I wasn't expecting so much details inside (I'm so jealous of those brown window frames btw!)- 21 replies

I havn't really continued the lore of the Khel'Zarim or Castle Zar after my Book I challenge VI story, mostly because I think now that I was a bit too enthusiastic on the magic when I built those builds and wrote that story (almost my first GoH builds). Now I'm trying to build in a more "realistic" manner with as little magic as possible. But I guess the Khel'Zarim would be kind of established lore nowadays, and their castle is somewhere (never exactly pinpointed) in the Rakath so I guess it could be reasonably close to the Kragg. If you want to include some battlemagi of the Khel'Zarim in your builds, you are most welcome to do so! They are very few remaining battlemagi nowadays, since most of them perished fighting the elemental mayhem released by Victor Revolword or when their castle fell to the orcs. They are slowly rebuilding their forces, but as it takes many years to train a battlemage most of the new recruits at Castle Zar are still novices.

Gorgeous build! I love the Tudor section and all the small details you've put into this +1 for all those claims
-
Very nice build! I love the upper section and the wooden stair, as well as that little water fountain Definitely one of your best GoH builds! I agree however that the walls could have been slightly improved at least some texture (brick bricks/log bricks etc).

Nice figures and interesting floor design! I would recommend some more light and that you mind the direction of the light for the photography however. The first shot looks lit in the wrong direction and the camera seems to have introduced some unnecessary noise when compensating the low light conditions.
