  1. I like the middle photo, good job with the composition and lighting UoP +1.
  2. Nice to see the Nordic tradition of a Smörgåsbord also in Historica
  3. The City Council of Barqa will stay loyal to the council! At least as long as it is good for trade. OOC: If for balance reasons the council support is way too strong, I could shift my support to the side of the Desert King. Either by using a secondary character in this challenge, or by having Gideon convincing the City Council of Barqa that a strong leader is what Kaliphlin needs again. I'm with Kai on the concerns that the incentives seems to favor building lots of rushed low-quality builds vs the high-quality builds with good photography/presentation that usually makes many of our challenge entries stand out in the AFOL community. Having a PM thread for each team seems like a good idea.
  4. Very nice build and great choice of photo angles A nitpick on the last photo is however that I think the focus probably should have been on the minifig in the center?
  5. Very nice creature and interesting backstory/legend
  6. Great story and nice builds! This is really setting the table for the upcoming conflict!
  7. Good idea, I'll try that if I use the technique again (or if I decide to keep this build intact a while longer)
  8. It just keeps growing! But I fear that there might be destruction coming soon as well...? I wish I had the space/bricks to do like you and Kabel and simply keeping adding to my city
  9. Thanks! Glad you like the street design which I started with in my previous Barqa build. I'm thinking I will continue to use that in the future as well if it helps making a build recognizeable as being in Barqa The problem however is the "banana effect" which the tiles are creating, bending up the front left corner somewhat... (same problem as on the official Grand Emporium, so I'm at least in good company having problems with that...) For straight streets it should thankfully be less of a problem than an intersection at a corner where there were no sidewalks to create more stiffness. Just followed Ska's lead here, and he seems to have explained it in a subsequent prologue thread that the war against Petera has been taxing the granaries of western Kaliphlin. I know, that's probably the weakest point in the design...I would have liked to have the roof at least 1-2 studs further out at the short end. Any suggestions for how to end the roof then without the ugly underside showing?
  10. Seems like the lines dividing Kaliphlin are forming? Or is it all deceptions still...?? Nice builds all three
  11. Previous Prelude chapters: Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Food Shortage Barqa is located far enough away from the epicenter of the large earthquake that struck Kaliphlin to have been spared the worst of the destruction. However, all along the usually fertile Arkbri valley crop failures have happened for mysterious reasons, leading to widespread food shortages and famine. This has caused food prices in all towns and cities dependent on that food to rise dramatically. Reports of riots have made their way to Barqa, where the emergency supplies in the city's granaries and it's strong city guard has been able to keep major riots from happen. The only resort for many of the citizens is however to wait in long lines outside one of the city’s granaries, where the city council has authorized the city guard to start handing out some of the supplies stored inside. A sizeable force of guards is deployed around the granary to keep the peace and make sure that everyone keeps in line. Unfortunately, some of this food ends up on the black market even though the punishments for such offenses in times of crisis are very harsh. As food gets more and more scarce throughout the land, Gideon and the other officials of Barqa are increasingly worried that a refugee crisis might be growing as the rumor spreads around Kaliphlin of the still filled stores of the city. The fear is that people will start to flock to Barqa from smaller places where the granaries, if any, are rapidly emptying... Citizens waiting patiently in line, or at least they know that they will get thrown out of the line by the stern guards if they try to step ahead... Is this guy happy because he knows that his family will have food for the coming days, or for the money he will get for the food his “family” has received for free?
  12. Nooo! OOC: Great way to write/build Dextrus out of the story with a nod to Si-MOCs
  13. Very nice build, especially considering the short time it was put together in I'm liking the story more and more!
  14. Nice build, but the map really steals the show here Can't wait to know more of what's on that new (?) landmass!
  15. Very nice map MKJoshA! One city recently featured in a wonderous MOC is missing however if I'm not blind? I'm of course talking about Amortug
  16. I like how those yellow flowers are contrasting against the bare ground, looks very much like the North in early spring when some brave flowers are shooting up before the new grass
  17. I like both the rockwork and the atmosphere of the interior
  18. Very nice build Robuko and good story writing Ska! Looking forward to the challenge!
  19. Wow! That's how you illustrate a story with Lego Nocturnus is definitely in a league of it's own when it comes to storytelling and collaboration builds!
  20. Nice map MKJoshA! The dark green numbers are a bit hard to read however, maybe some more contrast would help? (like a lighter color)
  21. Welcome to Kaliphlin LJ/Aymeri! With such a great start I can't wait to see what a year or three in GoH will bring from you
  22. Welcome to Kaliphlin, best introduction to GoH in a long time! I thought these builds looked very fitting for Kaliphlin when I saw them on flickr
  23. Running an engineering department Barqa takes way to much time away from building, but after March I also hope to have time to start building more again...
  24. Some very cool figures here, great work! I think I like the orc farmer and the scribe a bit extra
  25. Very good job with the photography! And great minifig posing as well. Looking forward very much to this challenge!
