Very good entry! Great landscaping and minifigs, especially the tails

The colonnade and the interior are the stars of this build imho. Black tiles worked surprisingly well as a hole in the floor, but in the last pic at a lower angle the reflection in the tiles ruins the illusion somewhat

Blocking the Road to Queenscross [G:D7, HC vs U]
Gideon replied to Gideon's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! Since the cactus design gets so much attention I must add that it is not my design, credit goes to Anders67 (and also swestar) on Swebrick where this design has been posted as suggested vegetation for the Post-Apocalyptic collab we are starting to put together. They are only built with 1x1 plates, 1x2 plates and 2x1 curved slopes in olive green. Neither are extremely rare nowadays. Internally it's simply some 1x1 plates and 1x1 bricks with studs on four sides.- 19 replies

[Mini Challenge, Desert King] Breakout in the Wither Woods
Gideon replied to Jacob Nion's topic in Guilds of Historica
What a horrible (and excellent!) monster -
Lovely little city scene! Since the work with the bricks is so nice I will give you some constructive feedback regarding the photography. I am not fond of the sharp shadows from the flash in the first and third pics. If the shadows would have been in an angle plausible to be the sun it would have been ok but now they just look like camera flash and nothing else. So my favorite pic here is the middle one where you left the flash off. Since your long shutter speed in any case seems to indicate you are using a tripod or some other way to steady the camera, I would suggest turning off the flash entirely.

Turbans are just as common among the light cavalry of the desert, especially for mounted archers. Having a heavy and hot helmet on the head in the searing Kaliphlin heat is not very comfortable and decreases agility.

Nice take on this three-way conflict, best detail in my opinion is how the Desert King soldiers are emerging from the sands

Very nice castle! Clean design yet suitably detailed I like how you've done the edges of the main tower, simple but very good-looking technique.

Blocking the Road to Queenscross North of Queenscross, there is an isolated stronghold held by Ulandus forces. Aside from the Arkbri river which is usually the main route of transportation in this part of Kaliphlin, the only reliable route for any significant military force to cross the Westersands to Queenscross is along an ancient road through the desert. Because of the Ulandian threat to Queenscross, a force from the mercenary company called the Arkbri Falcons have been hired by members of the Kaliphlin High Council to sabotage the road. They are also creating barricades where an advancing enemy can be delayed or halted. Of course, they are not doing the hard labor themselves but are instead forcing captured Ulandian soldiers to toil in the desert heat. Any attempts by the Ulandian forces to repair the road will be met barricade by barricade by sharp arrows from the Falcon's accurate crossbows while they themselves are sheltering behind walls of gravel and broken flagstones. Guerilla build for the High Council against Ulandus, at square D7.

Thanks guys! Of course the desert tribes use camels as well, but most of their light cavalry favor the breed of horses from the Siccus badlands famous for their speed and endurance. OoC: Good idea, I havn't used the camels for a while and should probably include them in some upcoming war build. Indeed they are! Old brown and only found in one set back in 2003 though... Glad to have bought a few when they were "only" around β¬1 a piece http://www.bricklink...Item.asp?P=3741

[G:K12, U vs HC] The Storming of Ras-El-Akhen
Gideon replied to Garmadon's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice wall texturing and damage! I agree however that the green plate looks out of place. UoP +1 for Siege. I thought that the History category was supposed to show a series of events in the past and not the "present".- 18 replies

Defending the Supplies Cavalry from the desert tribes loyal to the Kaliphlin High Council is guarding a supply wagon to prevent any more Ulandian attacks. Their ranks include both agile spearmen and swift and accurate mounted archers, which would make any dismounted Ulandian force very sorry for trying to attack another wagon. They are also excellent scouts with the desert as their native environment, so attempts at ambushing the supply wagons would not be likely to go unnoticed. Counter build to the guerrilla attack by Garmadon at square H6.

Nice foliage and tent! I think for a night scene, the lego colors work fine but the shadows from the light source (flash?) should have been less prominent and the brightness of the picture tuned down a bit.
