Since with my new house I'll finally have the space for a proper city, I'm also in the market fir a modular set. To wrap things up, from all I read I guess the practical choice would be to get first the Fire House and/or Gran Emporium? I think I have a good line on a Fire House so that will probably be my first.

You got a railroad! So now it's a proper town! It's looking great!

Powering train engine through cars with CV joints?
Werlu Ulcur replied to redeemed's topic in LEGO Train Tech
My EN arrived today ( ) and that's the route I'm taking. I still have to wait for the motor, so I'll build it stock just to see how it looks, but as soon as the motor arrives I'm doing the powered-tender conversion. I started a thread exactly about this a while back and there's a boat-load of useful tips and information there (it was titled "Emerald Night: Quick Questions" or something like that). -
LDD MOC: RENFE ESTRELLA Bed-car 9600 Serie
Werlu Ulcur replied to mtrkustoms's topic in LEGO Train Tech
It looks VERY good! But like zephyr I would also be worried about how it would make curves being so long. -
Awesome! It looks very good, congrats! That's basically what I want for my city too.

Why can't we get that with a tauntaun? Still, even tauntaunless I would love to have one. Thanks for the review!

I've seen that design elsewhere, but this is the first time I actually see it working. Pretty cool!

For a SW fan, specially of the OT, I would say an AT-AT is a must have. Compared to the other versions I think this one is the best, and I had a great time building mine. It's not perfect (what Lego set is?), but I think it's "good enough" in terms of a stock set. But is it worth $280? Only you can say. I bought mine when it was cheaper, but if I didn't have an AT-AT yet, I would be very tempted to get one now even at 280 bucks. Probably the price will only go up, and I doubt Lego will release a new version.

Fantastic Mathew, it looks beautiful! I imagine how awesome it would be if you managed to close the loop and put a small train running around . Come on, your kid smiling when you receive new Lego sets/parts is a given. What about the wife?

Unfortunately, trains will always be a secondary theme to Lego .

That looks quite good! What about suicide doors? I think it could look pretty nice on a 30's car like that.

Getting started in LEGO Trains - What to buy?
Werlu Ulcur replied to MrTools's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Without a doubt! In my eyes it's the best-looking of the cargo trains from Lego - well, it would be a tie with the Santa Fe, but you get more material with the Maersk, so the Santa Fe would be the second one to be bought. I removed the pantographs from my yellow engine and it looks pretty nice without them. I'm still waiting for a few parts to arrive, but the idea is to transform it in a "one front only" engine. I don't think it will be very prototypical but it will look better in my eyes (and that's what counts, right ?).- 191 replies

Are Star Wars MOC Builders becoming a dying breed?
Werlu Ulcur replied to HJR-Holland's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm NOT saying this is wrong, but as a couple of people posted before, SW Lego collecting (at least around these parts) seems to be extremely minifig-oriented. I have the firm impression that the majority here don't care much about the set in general, only about the minifigs. Ergo, if the minifigs are the most important aspect of Lego SW hobby, it's no wonder that you don't see many SW MOCs. -

Are Star Wars MOC Builders becoming a dying breed?
Werlu Ulcur replied to HJR-Holland's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Not taking into consideration parts costs, what I think is the principle reason that SW-themed MOCs have become scarce is that Lucas (and now Disney) saturated the market with almost everything out there. As said above, there's not much point of going through the hassle of gathering a whole bunch of parts (and waiting eons for everything to arrive) when you can go to a store and get basically the same thing ready and packed and with instructions. Why do you have so many MOCs in the City or Trains themes? Because there's still so much to build that you can't find as a set. I feel that the SW cow has been milked to the bone.
