  1. I never BLed a whole complex set like the EN, but from what I read of other people's experience you do save a little in terms of money in the end, so financially speaking I don't think it would be really worthwhile. What you do get that doesn't come with a stock set is the pleasure of doing it yourself and of course the challenge of the whole process. And you don't need to spend all the cash in one hit. I'm also drooling over an EN set, but for me it's financially impractical to BL the whole set because of the expenses I would have with S&H. So if all goes well next week I'll just order the stock set. From BL, of course .
  2. Style basically. When I was a kid living in the US I remember lots of engines with that overall shape (sorry, I don't recall what specific engines they were) and then in my region here in Brazil we had lots of GE's U23C and GM's G-22U that at least to my eye look a little (at least) similar to the red engine. The yellow one is also very nice, but too "European" for my tastes. We always try to make a town/railroad with what you know or are used to, so though I have both I have to admit that I prefer the red engine.
  3. Really?!? Regular PF hardware can do that? Fantastic!
  4. Simple and effective!
  5. Absolutely gorgeous! And I'm really impressed that you furnished it ALL! I'm curious, how many parts did you use in total?
  6. I have a MOC I bought on eBay en route that should get here next week.
  7. That's how I see it too. I like the red loco much more then the yellow one, but as a set the yellow train is much "richer".
  8. Wow, awesome ! In my future railroad I was hoping I could make something like that.
  9. Even loosing some of the "playability" factor with the now filled-up box car, I think it's worth it to get such a cool train motorized . Thanks for sharing!
  10. Because of what you get with the set, my first option as a 1st train would be the yellow freight train, while the red freight train would be a close second. Only then I would get a passenger train or one of the really cool ones (Maersk and/or EN).
  11. Wow, it looks even better then I though it would! What a nice little train    . And the question that I have to ask: could you motorize it?
  12. Ulcer? No, I'm into Lego to get rid of stress, so I'm ulcer-free.
  13. You should enter this in the "Wacky Engine Contest" over at the Train Section .
  14. For me it's pretty simple: it will only be Lego (aka "purist") if it's made by Lego, ie, you can find the part/piece on Lego's catalogs. An M-16 (by BrickArms, for instance), is not made by Lego, so it's not an official Lego part. I consider it to be "Lego-compatible", and the same goes for a customized minifig, even if the base fig was an official Lego minifig. But more important then that, does it matter? No. You want/need a rocket launcher for your creation, but you can't make one out of Lego's official parts, so what's the problem in using a Lego-compatible part (once again, like from BrickArms)? You made a MOC using a gazillion Lego bricks but your Army squad needs a rocket launcher to look just right, what to do? Use a nice custom piece. I draw the line with stuff like using glue in the build or physically altering a piece, but using a nice custom Lego-compatible piece or minifig? Why not.
  15. I'm not a big fan of steam engines but that is a thing of beauty!
  16. That looks absolutely gorgeous, congrats!
  17. PLEASE film it and post it here! We would love to see a nuclear VC working on L gauge .
  18. Did you run it yet? I mean, over a section of dusty tracks as a test?
  19. BIG badaboom!
  20. Friggintastic! But my favorite is the BR-94.
  21. More stuff to add to my order!
  22. Breath-taking! A true model to scale.
  23. From someone who just got into L scale, I can't recommend more the yellow freight train (the red freight train comes in a close second). I particularly like more the red train, but the yellow one has more track and the crane - I really like cranes . Both come ready to run, you don't have to buy anything else, and are a GREAT build, so for a first set I think they're both awesome. The HE, like the EN, I would say would be a great "second set", because they're harder to build and you will need extra parts (PF).
  24. That looks very good! Do you plan to try to incorporate the camera into something more "Lego-like"?
  25. Trés cool! Do you have any pics of how it looks?
