Thanks ZC, and it's funny, I keep making my castles bigger yet they still look very compact Guess that's just the way I build

Those two did turn out nicely, I may do a slightly larger scene with similar techniques to one of the vignettes soon. I'm sure that I'll do larger scenes incorporating the same style from those vignettes in the future.

The Settlers go to Historica – Part VII: Goldsmelter
soccerkid6 replied to Yooha's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great liquid gold effect in the second picture The round section of the building and its roof look superb. Excellent stone texturing throughout the whole building. If you don't continue with more Settlers builds, will you do a different series of builds? -
Excellent build! The water wheel design is very clever and the little hut next to it looks great I like how you included the Mitgardian colors and the yeti and gnome are great touches The landscape overall is also excellent, keep it up

Thanks Matthew Thanks legonardo, you may be right about the dots of snow. Oh and just out of curiosity, what is your favorite out of my builds? And you inspired the half-timber section on top of a stone tower Thanks, I was wondering if anyone would notice that window

Thanks! Here's another picture of the blue house (and I may even take a few more as I've taken apart a lot of the castle around it... And the interior of the house: Thanks NM! Pretty much all the rock work is SNOT, albeit studs out SNOT. I like the rough effect the studs give for mountains/cliffs

@kabel: That picture of the kid looking at the display is great I can't wait to see some good pictures of the Thorshaven modules in the back -
Thanks Gideon, I definitely won't ask for four certifications in one build very often, but with all the time and effort I'd put into this I thought it deserved them (I could easily build 4-6 smaller builds in the time it took me to do this). Yeah, after I thought about it a bit it made sense to to have arrow slits on the first floor. As you said they could easily be defended and it lets the defenders bring more firepower into play at one time. I'm glad you like the finished MOC Thanks!

Thank you, I really like the look of rounded towers myself Thanks Wedge! And I actually was thinking of leaving the ground floor archer slits out, but when I was looking at some Castle books it seemed that first floor arrow slits were quite common. They're a bit too small for anyone to fit through

Thank, glad you noticed the fish vendor and I too wish the house was a bit more visible, in real life it's pretty easy to see. I picture the water to be at the stage where its just forming into ice, so its still in the kind of slushy layering across the top of the lake. I was a bit worried at times that the layout was too crowded, its good to hear that you like the density of the build. I had a lot of fun with the snowscape (perhaps because it was one of the last things I had to do Thanks kabel Interestingly enough that tower was originally not going to have the half-timbered top, but because of its rounded design I couldn't get stone battlements to work the way I wanted. Then I thought of doing a half timbered section and it worked perfectly! Also it helps to break up all the bley of the castle. Thanks Yooha, all of the angled sections (both the tower with wall, and the single wall sections) were accomplished via hinge bricks. Great to hear all this love for the cottage, I really liked the way it turned out. When nearing the end of the build I almost wished I had built it in sections like Ecc's Ondylion city. That way I could have shown off each building by itself. Because of the castle's location on a mountain it wasn't really feasible though. Thanks! Glad it wasn't disappointing after all the promoting I did Thank you Thanks Kayne That's my goal. Thank you, and it does almost look like that Someone noticed it That and the blacksmith shop are two of my favorite details Yesterday I forgot to ask for UoP DoH certification, so I'd like to receive credit for round walls and towers (Architecture), snow and ice (Landscape Design), sideways rocks (Landscape Design), and interior design (General Building) = 4 credits

Kaldrfell Castle: -
Well here is what I've been working on for just a bit over a month: Kaldrfell Castle. I took inspiration from many different castle builders, but here are some that inspired specific sections or details in the castle: Ecclesiastes, Kayne, Eklund, peggyjdb, Buurli Burri, Andhe, and legonardo. There is a full interior in every building, and the keep lifts off and hinges open. Also every door/trapdoor, and the drawbridge and portcullis are all functional. Interior buildings inside the castle include: a smithy, servant's house, stable, and chicken coop. And I think I came up with a new archer slit design, it can be seen on all the buildings except the rounded tower. Basically you center a 1x3 arch so that it has a half stud offset on each side and the use brick modified with stud to hold tiles to fill the gaps. You could make pretty much the same windows with going to the bother of centering them, but I like the texture you get when you do. The pictures should explain the design much better than this description. Kaldrfell Castle looks out onto a small lake in the Heavenly Mountains and protects the city of Kaldrfell which is built around the lake. Lord Nordan and Lady Deonne, Glorfindel's parents, rule Kaldrfell. Here Glorfindel pays them a visit: There are tons of details so be sure to check out more pics here: link All C&C greatly appreciated

Great vignette and figs I really like the detailing on the entrance to the tunnel, the 1x1 brick rounds attached to the brick modified things look pretty neat and I like those little domes. Your photos are also excellent, keep up the good work -
Wonders of Historica: Fossgard Falls
soccerkid6 replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks Matthew! I think one of the wonders of LEGO is how distinct each builder's style is The windows use quite a bit of SNOT, especially the ones in the SNOT tower (those actually took me longer than anything else in the build to design) and the ones looking into the caves (though they do look pretty simple). Also one of the windows looking into the caves is set at an angle. I guess some ornate stained glass windows or something like that would probably be a better fit for the DoH category Yeah, I tend to come up with at least one new window design a build, they usually take me longer than most other aspects of the MOC- 58 replies
