Thanks, Nokturn. Those prices are really a huge relief. They actually seem reasonable. Gonna take a stab at the Canadian prices, if the last couple of years are any indication: Yoda's Jedi Starfighter - $30 CAD Duel On Naboo - $30 CAD The Phantom - $40 CAD Battle On Scarif - $60 CAD Y-Wing Starfighter - $75 CAD -

Well... it could be worse. During the Clone Wars period, we always got those ghastly bug eyes lookin' clones. Never again... I hope. Thanks for the high res image of the Death Trooper, SHIFT. I think they may look good as a group - that dome is very spherical! Does anyone else find it odd that we are getting a Y Wing in both system scale AND microfighter in the same wave?? -

If there's one thing I've learned from checking this forum daily it's that there doesn't seem to be any hesitation on the part of TLG to produce vehicles and playsets from Star Wars content that aired long ago and not even remotely connected to current releases (Rogue One and Rebels, currently). Perhaps the most recent example is Anakin's Custom Starfighter 75087. And that's from Clone Wars, not The Clone Wars, so it isn't even canon. Anything related to A New Hope seems appropriate for right now as it tends to connect both Rogue One and Rebels together. Of course, there are also lots of naysayers who declare, "they'd never make (this ship or playset), that's from YEARS ago!" Never say never, I guess. -

Iomis, There is an in-universe reason why there is a lack of capital ships in The Force Awakens: Having said that, I expect to see a Finalizer eventually. The Quadjumper is owned by Uknar Plutt, isn't it? I wonder if he will fit in the cockpit. Who else would be driving it? Could we be getting another Unkar Plutt? There sure are a lot of his concession stands warming the Lego shelves currently. -

Yeah I was worried about this scaling issue. Because the Rebels era walker is super tall, I wanted this AT-ST to be able to pose with the walker from Endor Bunker 8038 which I feel is a great size/scale. Knee deep in walkers over here... 75153 might be "minifigures only" for me. -
Thanks for the kind words, TWP and Surox. This build from this original post in 2012 was one of several builds I tried to make of Cloud City but... it would sit in on my shelf and it would never look right to me under scrutiny. Lol... Lego is a medium that really fuels the perfectionism in all of us. I appreciate the comments and hope you'll check out my new build of Cloud City once it's ready. Cloud City is always on an OT Lego collector's mind - it's just one of those locations that continually seems to get looked over by TLG. To their credit, they made a fine carbon freezing chamber recently with 75137 - although it was hilarious (upsetting?) that they omitted the duel of Vader and Luke! Despite the underwhelming gimmick of "freezing" Han, I think the carbon chamber itself looked great and I am currently working on a way to incorporate both the old strip mall style 10123 and 75137 the new chamber together (disclaimer this build is a WIP) by gutting the carbon chamber from 10123 and replacing it with the dining area/hotel room: Also, I encourage others not to wait for an official UCS and build the Cloud City of your dreams today. Sadly, I think 75137 is all we are gonna get for a long time.

betaplayer, I didn't see a TIE striker in the trailer - however there is one (and only one) in the R1 beach poster that was also released last night. On far right. Wasn't planning to get a 75154 because I thought I would feel compelled to build a whole fleet of them. But if there is only one... that makes getting one a lot more tempting. It's size is so much longer than another TIE that it makes you wonder what it's used for? Surgical strikes? -
That's Ten Numb, from 6208 the B-Wing set 10 years ago: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Ten_Numb Wow, this Cloud City build from 4 years ago has long been since dismantled to build more Cloud Cities MOCs... but I eventually settled on a spare parts build of 10123.

JANGBRiCKS' review of 75156 Krennic's shuttle is up. It's a great look inside it showing a lot of space for figures. Easily at least 4 troopers can fit inside the fold-up walls. Engines look awesome. This is becoming a must buy for me. -

TLG keeps getting TIEs wrong, demonstrating a lack of understanding for the starfighters. They are supposed to be nimble and attack in swarms, yet they keep oversizing them and making the wings too thick. The TIE Striker, however, may have an in-universe purpose: the centre point/cockpit of the ship is huge. Maybe it's meant to be a fast moving bomber, capable of taking out Rebel capital ships? Utterly fascinating that the Y Wing is cheaper than the TIE Striker! Cheers and much gratitude for the leaks, CM4Sci. It's been a bit of a dry spell and the timing couldn't be better. -

Oh this is a disappointment - 75173 is not going to be a Tusken Raider builder. That's C-3P0 next to a Tusken Raider. Wasn't the rumor Tuskens x2? Come on, TLG. How many C-3P0's does a collection need? The escape pod set still going to be sitting next to this on the shelf. Much rather have another Jawa than a C3PO. Good chance to get updated Luke hair. Just as the skiff will get us cheap access to Han's new hair. Try not to think of Malibu Stacy with her New Hat when buying this one. Play feature on the bunker 75171 looks to be... an exploding floor? The Mystery of the Great White Wookie continues. soild part 2. -

Guessing that since these are prelims, they won't have any of the "new" characters - or just have jumbled together stand-ins as usual. Staring at pictures of the PT separatist shuttle and also the Lego 8036 kit... I'm not so sure it is a separatist shuttle. Maybe one modified or a completely different shuttle altogether. The underside of a SHEATHIPEDE-CLASS SHUTTLE has a considerable slope and it is supposed to have spindly legs that jut out to land with. I can't imagine how it could dock with The Ghost without heavy modifications. Also, it's 14.4 meters long and apparently the Phantom is 11.63 meters long. -

Prelims! On Star Wars Rebels season 3 premiere day. That's appropriate. Looks like the play feature on the Naboo Duel is the forcefield red bars/lightsaber blades rotate 90 degrees so waiting Obi Wan can join the fight. I was kinda hoping if they did this set they would use trans red 1x2 bricks instead. There was this brilliant MOC on Lego Ideas that used it and it looks great. Check it out https://ideas.lego.com/projects/75555 But check out what is happening with the build underneath the walkway. There's a cone for support and then - it looks like a transparent dome 4x4 with a bunch of smaller trans red dishes? And right above that, more red lightsaber blades. Could look awesome, like a power core - and that's where this duel takes place, below Theed Palace where the power core was. This set has come a long way since http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/7101_Lightsaber_Duel. Pretty impressive spread/scope here: TCW, Rebels and the PT covered all on one page. -

I had always assumed that the Rebels gutted them for parts, but according to this entry, the vehicle has both 1 and 2 seater variants. Interesting to note that the plating was removed so that the Rebels could access and maintain the aging craft more easily. http://starwars.wiki...arfighter/Canon "Several models of the Y-wing starfighter were used throughout the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War. An early Y-wing model was used by the Grand Army of theRepublic during the Clone Wars. Unlike its successor designs, this model had a bubble-turret, which swivelled 360 degrees, provided a clear view of surrounding space for a gunner. The ship was designed to operate mainly as a bomber and the Republic used them well in this capacity.[16] The later BTL-A4 Y-wing was a variant, single-seat tactical strike spacecraft, which lacked the gunner's position of earlier models. This variant was utilized by both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and New Republic during the Galactic Civil War.[17] The Alliance modified their Y-wings, with the hull and nacelle plating removed to increase ease of maintenance on the aging craft.[7] These modified BTL-A4 variants saw action in the Battle of Yavin, the Battle of Hoth[13], Battle of Endor, and the Battle of Jakku.[13]" By the way - I'm loving that rumors list for 2017. Can't imagine an improvement over the previous landspeeder but gotta get more Tusken Raiders of course. The only thing is... Thrawn in a $30 set? Could it be possible? I figured for sure he would be in some gigantic $200+ set. -

Isn't it possible that TLG knows exactly what they are doing by re-releasing the same Death Star? 10188 had been available for so many years that it needed a 'fresh coat of paint' before sitting on shelves another 5 years or so. / Inflation, etc of value in 10188 People like the exposed, multi-playset approach (I know I do!) Not everyone can drop that kind of cash all at once. If I were a child or a student, I know I'd be piggy banking for a year or more to turn this around and in the meantime there are many cheaper temptations. This new set will likely be available through 2020-2022 before retirement. Cheers, Nokturn. I think etcknight's efforts to shell his 10188 were most certainly underappreciated. If only we had a better idea of how he made his perimeter attach securely - and strong enough to hold the wedges themselves, which are very clear in construction in the photos posted. Still, I'm going to take a stab at it and I'm glad this thread was able to confirm we aren't getting a shelled DS so I can get to work on it. -

True. Although I'm not sure about tons, because I've only been able to find one posting by etcknight at fbtb.net and it's several years old. http://www.fbtb.net/...php?f=10&t=1216 This news today about the Death Star is good for me - the more I thought about the "half sphere" approach, I realized it might be kind of sucky. If it's just the northern hemisphere, I don't know I just think about that goofy Kenner Star Wars Death Star playset - the cardboard one. While I like that approach to Cloud City, not the Death Star, it should be a full sphere. -

Yeah I hope there's something besides the usual pointless hidden speederbike. A mini command station, or the Death Star plans or something. The ship could be an Imperial stealth shuttle of some kind - why else be black? Some of that space would accommodate the landing gear, too. [snip] Not sure if this has been pointed out - there was talk of "did Lego get the variable geometry flight wings on the U Wing correct compared to Kylo Ren's shuttle which they messed up" and if you look at the image of the U wing, you can see three 1x2 exposed hinge buckles at the base of where the wings would fold in, so I think they got it right this time, I think those wings should fold up very easily on three hinges. I think they can - it looks like about at least 6 studs from the ground to the base of the cockpit. Maybe even as high as 8 studs? -

Jangbricks' review of the Rebels Combat Frigate (in case your Googling is a little rusty): Yes, the interiors are bland but not as bad as some are saying. Wouldn't take too much modding to help make it screen accurate. Certainly some white plates wouldn't hurt. -
Minifig Review: Ahsoka from set 75158

Thanks for the review and great pics! The only thing keeping this fig from my shelf tomorrow - will be a (surprisingly large) pile of money! From these photos, I'm satisfied the blades are light enough to distinguish hers from Jedi - an important distinction for display, as there are so few Grey Jedi in Lego form. Reviews of the set *should* be appearing online tomorrow, as it's available for sale Aug 1st. Still - I'm amazed there are no advance reviews of this set on YouTube. -

To me, it looks like Harrison Ford hair but only from the late 70s. He doesn't really have that "fluff" in Empire. His hair is much shorter. This is A New Hope / untitled Han Solo Standalone film hair sculpt, in my (h) opinion. -

Bricklinked UCS Super Star Destroyer Executor (10221)
darththeling replied to darththeling's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thank you mortesv, You're absolutely right about the engine area lacking detail... when I ordered all the greebling bits, invariably there were holes in the supply line. In all the pedantic detail I went through it my initial post, I didn't talk much about the actual Bricklinking of things: It was all in, 5 orders total (to cut down on shipping costs). Some of the little pieces I needed were in the 100's so I didn't get quite enough 1x1 dark grey clips or even enough light grey 1x2 grills. As such, the underside needs a fresh coat of greeble to allow it to match the original design. That 10221 box doesn't look easy to carry home! Thanks, Hold0511. This hulk certainly does require a lot of space - planning ahead for a whole room is a good idea! I managed to cram mine on the very top of a board between shelves... until I can think of a better way to display the entire Star Wars collection in once place. There used to be a large fleet of TIEs here.- 6 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Pictures and Rumors
darththeling replied to Brickdoctor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well... we were told that the new Death Star reveal would be after the Disney castle, right? And we got that yesterday. Unless it's leaked I can't imagine it not being revealed at Celebration. -
Five years ago when the Super Star Destroyer 10221 came out, I couldn't dream of buying it. In Canada, with taxes and possibly shipping combined you were looking at around $600.00 for it - which I'd already dropped on the Death Star playset and that was, I felt, the maximum I would ever spend on Lego. I simply decided that the SSD wasn't happening in this lifetime and that was that. But after MOCing the rest of the major OT locatons/ships, five years later this one slot remained empty into an otherwise comprehensive collection. I had to have that Executor, I thought. Checked out some listings on eBay, Kijiji and of course Bricklink. The markup would have made me spit coffee at my screen - if I drank coffee. The prices were lowest at $1400.00 CDN. There was one complete and assembled going for $1100. Unreal - but understandable. It's a limited edition high demand item. A compromise was made and I started to Bricklink Pellaeon's brilliantly designed Midi Scale Super Star Destroyer found here. It would cost me about $70 to get the parts I needed for it on Bricklink. It is a beauty of a design and TLG would be smart to adopt this kind of scale for such a distinguished and iconic OT Star Wars ship. But it nagged at me - in the back of my head - if I did build this, would I be satisfied with the scale? Despite already ordering parts for the midi scale, I started to sink deep into the abyss of Bricklink and multiple blogs, posts and threads on the subject of Bricklinking large sets. I was hooked on the idea of this huge set I couldn't afford. But I also discovered some very important information - the UCS Super Star Destroyer contains no super special, highly priced parts that only appear in that set, 10221. Encouraged by this, I found a great price on replacement stickers and that was that - I was invested and there was no turning back. The goal was to get this half price. If I got the price down to $300.00 ($200-250 USD?) I could do it. It wouldn't break the bank so to speak and the full size SSD could be realised. It would just take several long nights alone working out which pieces to buy, who from, and what sets I had that I could cannibalize for parts... ...especially wedges. There are over 100 wedges of the 3x12 type in this model. It ended up being mostly a scramble to see if I could get the right number of the right color and how cheap. Here's where it got weird: the light grey wedge pieces are very common in both Star Wars and non Star Wars kits. They are, for that reason, highly in demand because people want them to build all manner of MOCs. This was reflective in the prices. So what I ended up doing was only using those more valued light grey wedges for the top and the absolute bottom layer of the base. The rest of the build I would use dark grey 3x12 wedges, of which they were much more available and cheap. So if you are willing to cut costs down with a bit of color changes, I'm sure the choice saved me close to $100.00. The build of this thing was very exciting. There are 4 main stages, the base, the spine, the "cityscape" on top (with the bridge) and the perimeter neckline that gives the SSD its distinctive shape. Building these stages, I was serious about getting the base and spine as accurately built as possible, lending some flexibility to the top bits which are arguably more cosmetic. Lots of rainbow colors came out to help put the base together. Sadly this resulted in a lot more work near the end, as I had to rip apart the whole thing to replace some of the rainbow bits that were visible from the lateral strips that hug the sides of this giant beast. Most of the rainbow bits were contained but I was surprised how deep into the ship you can see once you've got a lot of light coming in to the display. The spine was tricky - I had used a bunch of smaller beams in my haste and once the Bricklink shipment with all the long technic beams came, I was compelled to replace some but not all of them. The stability was and still is decent. I'm proud to say that it ended up being rather swooshable (with a firm grip of course!) Once I got to the cityscape part of it, I started taking a few minor liberties. There were a couple of areas where I got lost, in particular with the intricacies around the recessed bridge scene. In the end, I took a leap of faith based on assembly videos and was invaluable. Even though it didn't show every step (the instructions were good for that) it was super helpful to see everything in real three dimensions. I spent a lot of time reviewing and pausing Brickbuilder's helpful video to check the build. I'm sure it wasn't made to assist in a build but it certainly did.One area that I went completely "off book" was the triangle-shaped bit that brings together the front taper of the ship with the back end - I hadn't ordered enough 4x4 wedge plates and I was getting impatient. I just rammed together some bits to make it work and so far it seems perfectly sturdy and I have no plans to revisit it. The discrepancy might stick out to owners of the official kit, but no worries for me. Finally I had one last Bricklink package arrive with dozens more 2x12 plates and 2x4 plates to help fit together the two large strips that make up the outer edges of the top. Since I'm still not 100% finished with it (it's done but I plan to work more on it when time allows) so for that reason I haven't anchored down the two strips using those 12 door hinge plates on the undersides. So those parts are a little loose - with too much shake the end plug can pop out and send the two strips flying off. So I reinforced them a bit more to survive ejecting to the floor. That's why there are a few extra wedges attached to the underside of these strips. It may look a little wonky but the reinforcement it provides is well worth it. As for the figures, Bossk is a major holdout. I will buy him eventually. For now, I'm satisfied with the stand-in involving the Chima croc head. It's certainly worth mentioning that I didn't bother with the stands (or the plaque) but I plan to build them someday. My shelf actually allows it to be displayed without the stands. The only issue is it cannot be displayed flat on a table - it needs to dangle off part of the table to avoid ramming the engines into it and have an engine array collapsing on the floor in a million pieces. That only happened once, so far. There are a few bits on the underside that use the wrong dark grey. Those will be swapped out eventually. I'm surprised there wasn't more. We've got some stand-ins for 4-Lom and Zuckuss, too! Thanks for reading this. I am super thrilled with it. It was a satisfying build that I managed to pull off within budget and about three months of spare time. What a satisfying and mighty sight. Although I regret not getting it an retail, having one slightly imperfect at half price is a great thing. Questions, comments, etc welcome. Oh yes, of course, the obligatory "no disintegrations" scene!! "You are free to use any methods necessary, but I want them alive..."
