LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors

Does it seem fit to reason that the odds of getting a Nexu, Reek and Acklay are much higher now, given Padme's torn clothing? The sweet structural Geonosian facade makes an arena set MOC very possible. I am loving every bit about this duel set! -

Loving the AT-TE, regretted not getting the last one... was expecting yellow windows for some reason. http://cdn.toyark.co..._1360502295.jpg Max Rebo's piano thing! Outstanding. Apparently it's called a nalargon. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Nalargon http://cdn.toyark.co..._1360502295.jpg Padme is looking particularly voluptuous... for a Lego figure! That hairpiece with the bun is incredible. http://cdn.toyark.co..._1360502295.jpg -
LEGO Star Wars 2013 Pictures and Rumors

Following the logic that the recent Jabba's Palace 2.0 and the Rancor Pit were meant to be combined together and a blaze of marketing genius, how likely could it be that both 75019 AT-TE and the 75021 Republic Gunship are capable of combination mode? I was rewatching Landing at Point Rain earlier and it dawned on me that those sets are going to be out around the same time so... in the case TLG misses this chance maybe a little retrofitting could make them compatible? Maybe the standing area of the gunship pops out for easier play and you can attach some kind of handle on the AT-TE. I am the only one who calls the AT-TE the 'pig walker'? Does it not look like a pig? Some people refer to the AT-ST as a chicken walker. Barnyard animals make excellent tank concept designs, according to Lucas. I am firmly in disbelief that we are seriously getting a Max Rebo... that is truly outstanding. It means a complete Rebo band is now more likely than ever. Sy Snoodles had a central role in at least one CW episode. Excellent new figures (quickly swaps Sail Barge Leia's hair for superior hairpiece) all around. Looks like this might be a decent wave after all! Nice that the large pipe-thing in the Yoda vs. Dooku duel is a lot more screen accurate. I'll be getting a lot of CW Yodas this year! I am also incredulous about getting a homing spider droid. I love this droid, but it gets zero love in The Clone Wars series... I am certain it does not make an appearance. Perhaps it's utter failure at being a tactical advantage in the Battle of Geonosis pushed it into cancellation for the Trade Federation. I love the old ToysRUs exclusive (though it cost a small fortune!). Oh... Young Boba gets a Clone helmet for Christmas. That is truly adorable. :D -

Just how 'set in stone' are the next year or two of Star Wars Lego sets? I'm hoping that the delay of the 3-D editions of Clones and Revenge might bring the OT into the forefront. Does every wave of Star Wars sets include OT, PT and EU sets? Realistically, there's so much that could be done with Cloud City, it's not even funny. Where to begin? Some of the most important and critical scenes occur there. Sure it's a tough set to tackle conceptually and hey, maybe it doesn't fit into the USC category (which it should!)... but there should at least be some kind of carbonite pit set... or a series of little scenes with the torture room, landing platform, hotel room, etc. We know they had something in mind for the landing platform in the 2008 vote. Maybe we should have voted for the Slave 1 with Cloud City platform then, instead of Home One or Palpatine's Arrest! Would it have been simply a circular platform, or were there plans to add some Cloud City interiors? The 'sky' is the limit. ;) Sets like the Rancor Pit add-on keep my faith that TLG is willing to go outside of recycling the same stuff over and over. I have to admit, where TLG used to botch each and every one of their playset sets (vs vehicle sets) something has changed and now we are getting incredible scenes and playsets. Jabba's Palace is a work of art and the Endor Bunker ain't too shabby. They sure shouldn't miss out on Degobah with the planet series.... that's a critical location for the OT! -

I would love to have an Ewok Village set, I truly would. But if you consider this proof in that image of the Lego designer's shelves, it is a Kashyyyk (sp?) playset. Take a close look, above the medical droid. That shelf model is misleading. http://static.ow.ly/photos/original/HJQX.jpg Those are battle droids standing on the ground, green helmet clone troopers on the walkway. There is one of those smaller Wookkie catamaran things on the ground, too. Even the little black sign shows "Kashyyyk" upon zooming in tight. The Ewok village needs trees interconnected with wooden bridges. I admit the large dish certainly does look like the one from Endor... anyway, all I'm saying is that if TLG really has an Ewok Village it will come as a total surprise. Prove me wrong, The Lego Group! -
Reports are flooding the web, the 3-D re-releases are canceled! http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/01/28/star-wars-3d-releases-reportedly-cancelled?abthid=5106eb61be9c51f151000036 It's a little frustrating that these new sets coming out for at least the next two years are going to be too prequel-based. :( I know we are getting a very nice rancor pit but now it seems pointless to have such an Attack of the Clones based wave of sets without the film... I'm not against Clone Wars or prequel era stuff but I'm always in preference of the classic releases!! :)

Smooth white tiles! They are so unrerepresented in my brick reserves. At the moment I've ripped the floors apart and I'm trying to consolidate my smooth bits into a single walkway... that should do the trick until I find more smooth white tiles. You are right about that dueling room. It's important to me that critical scenes from the film go in this model and I agree Cloud City cannot do without... so here's my solution. It attaches between the carbonite chamber and the dueling platform... and it has some action features for Vader's force hurling heavy objects at Luke. Pipe one. Pipe two. And that big heavy thing. That looks like it hurt. The window piece pops off the two suds with very little effort. Unfortunately it falls straight onto the platform instead of off the side, but it's fine. The window breaks and Luke tumbles out onto the platform below. If you only knew the power of the dark side! It's fun. And here are the accessories. They connect to one stud and so are easy to dislodge for force-thorwing at Luke. Thanks, Lego North Star! You may be right about the dining room being larger... I've started working on expanding it and I'll have new pics soon. Thanks Robin, I appreciate your praise. I'm a fan of your work such as the Cloud City chamber and the pic from your avatar... both images I studied while building this model. The lighting effects are quite excellent! It would make an awesome poster image. The detail of the three pinchers that collect the slab of carbonite is really unique! Stoutfiles' LLD attempt at a 10188-style is also a great work of Cloud City ingenuity... I certainly drew inspiration from that one! I'm still not sure how best to approach the build of Cloud City's outer walls at all. At the moment I'm using a lot of white sloped walls that I'm not sure look right... but I'll need to take photos and upload them as I don't really have the outer side detailed above. I've been admiring a couple of great builds I found on MOCpages, such as Jordan Sjodin's Cloud City Trap. I love the wall decor with the circles, that is very true to the design of Cloud City. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/299605 and I've also been enjoying Kaitan Tylerguy's hallway scene. Such an excellent capture of the Cloud City flavor. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/135890 Thanks, LEGO Train 12 Volts and GandalfofHoth. It means a lot to get positive feedback from a model that I've been tinkering with for so long.

Hello again, Eurobricks members, There were a few different incarnations of Cloud City that I've been messing around with for the past few years. I have a lot of OT Lego but I'm often surprised at the lack of sets aimed at screen time in the original trilogy. I believe Cloud City, Yavin IV and Degobah are underrepresented in TLG's catalog of sets. Luckily, LEGO is a construction toy and making a set exactly the way you want it is a matter of motivation (obsession). I've lost count but I believe this is the 8th version of this model... another thread here contains my 2nd attempt: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=59737 Thanks to everyone for the kind words about the old model. Cloud City... it's an obession for me to find the 'right' way to do it in Lego. I was very critical of TLG's 10123 design I found myself returning to the strip-mall style of it... where the exterior of Cloud City is expressed on one side of each modular piece and the other side contains the room and play area. But after ripping apart and rebuilding from scratch a half dozen times I then tried to make a more custom version of 10123 but with more adaptability in the re-arranging of rooms. I've come up with something that has many different combinations of play/display. There is no basic "default" state for the arrangement yet. Here's this model in it's entirety so far (above). The carbonite chamber is the heart of Cloud City and the source of its income and prosperity for collecting and manufacturing the tibanna gas from Bespin. My Besgas 3 platform from the other models had been revamped and improved with some half-rounded pieces. There's no place for figs to stand but it seemed an important "feel" to Cloud City to have at least one. So the carbonite chamber doesn't have a lowering/raising mechanism included, however for the sake of expansion I did leave a sizable hole in the floor... eventually I'll engineer some kind of crank that raises/lowers a HanSoloSickle. One very difficult aspect of Cloud City are all the lighting effects that are not easily registered in Lego but remain inportant when re-creating key scenes... within the chamber itself it's good to have some blue in the background. My solution so far was to include some transparent pieces on the backside of the carbon freezing chamber to give it the blue feeling like in those dueling scenes (see below). Another problem altogether is the orange glow of Cloud City when the heros are arriving/escaping at sunset... but I dash of orange pieces here and there fix that. I'm satisfied with the mini Cloud Cars over full size ones, they add that important hint of orange. I did add a light brick here because I feel the carbonite chamber is such an important location and the heavy light there really adds to the mood of the room. You can move the light brick down and out of the way for dueling play... and of course the top comes off completely to access the chamber unimpeded. Jabba's Palace 9516 gave me the idea about having one big rounded corner "main" area that all of the other areas could connect to... and I took the idea of the removable top and stuck it in there as well. The result is a very playable carbonite chamber complete with pipes and tubing for Luke to hang from and an all-too-easy lever. The top 'hat' piece slides off easy for duels in the chamber. There's also the extension platform where the duel ends. It can easily hang over a tabletop for some handless Luke diving. "Come with me. It is the only way." There are three other "main" areas, two hallway areas left and right which lead to East and West platforms and a back area with the dining room, hotel suite and all the utility rooms from the film. I squeezed as much as I could into each scene without going crazy on the piece count. Which is something I think TLG tries to do with big playsets. But I fully realize that to pull off the sleek, 70s feel of Cloud City I'll need a lot more smooth white tiles. The hallways are small and bare but do the job of allowing characters to sneak around Cloud City trying to avoid detection. One of these hallways feature a large decorative sculpture. The two angled areas contain a guard rail (love this piece, have to get another) and a table with chairs. I haven't completed the decals yet but these smooth 1x2 pieces on the table will eventually become Sabbac cards. I tried to build a casino into Cloud City many times but it's lack of appearance on-screen in the movies confuses the overall 'look' of being identifiable. I feel that gambling is a big part of the Cloud City experience, although not seen in ESB. The hatch (below) was used in many attempts to get the scene where Luke escapes from the underside of Cloud City back to the Falcon. But doing it underneath Cloud City and making it accessible is nearly impossible... although I'm sure Stoutfiles' full scale globe-shaped Cloud City could pull it off!! We've got two holding cells on the top. The left is the prison that Leia, Chewie, Han and C3P0 are taken to after their "dinner" with Vader. Chewie is trying to fix C3P0. No one in the dining area at the moment. When there are, I'm sure they'd be honored if you would join them. There's the garbage room with a cute reference with the 'recycling' sign that will be replaced once I find another white thin wall piece. ;) Ow!! That thing hurts. "They never even asked me anything..." The window of the dining area needs a sticker to from a circular window. The Ugnots (sp?) need work. The faces work I think but they need blue jackets and caps. Having a rim around the garbage room allows for lots of fun bits to be laid in there... somewhat like the Death Star 10188's does. I have no idea how TLG will figure this out (if they ever revisit Cloud City). Also some little spikes on the top of the Cloud City dome (above the carbonite chamber) could use more detail. Thoughts, suggestions? Were this to develop more I plan to make 4 Lego boxes to show off the units individually; I'd love to see this as a playset for about $160 total but broken into $40 pieces that can be collected x4: The Carbonite Chamber, The East Platform, The West Platform and the Hospitality District. Until TLG makes an official follow up to their old set, this will tide me over. I think Cloud City is a fantastic challenge. It has a very recognizable outer shape and for a long time I was hung on making that shape look right as well as the inside. But now I feel that as long as the play areas are correct this 'city' playset will do the trick. Thanks for reading and please share your criticisms and observations. darththeling

At last... and the shop at home website also ships items to CANADA as well... at last!!! http://shop.lego.com...questid=2670671 I spoke with a dude at the Toronto Lego shop this morning. He tells me the original release date for this wave was August (at least for Canada?) but that they decided to sell them earlier, and the 23rd was the official website release. For that particular Lego location (Sherway Gardens) they aren't on shelves yet but he said likely tomorrow. He also said that some shops in the area got theirs early and were allowed to put them out last week... let the Canadian sightings begin. I'd jump at the chance to order those kits online, but I'm wary of being dinged by customs fees on arrival. Has anyone been dinged on this board from those shipments, north of the border? Or does that site include sales tax?

And... here's mine. Happy Hallowe'en, if you're into that sort of thing. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=61826 -
Hello all, Here's my entry... since I wasn't able to use my recent Cloud City MOC I built a hallway from scratch to set up a few scenes. Then I ripped apart and rebuilt the torture room. There's a few close ups which you may not want to use... whichever works best. Enjoy!

Absolutely outstanding!! Well done :D

I'd love to be involved! Since I've been tackling Cloud City of late here's my MOC: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=59737 I'm thinking a couple of small Cloud City scenes would be fun. How about 1. Fett, Vader and Lando outside Han's torture room 2. Han's tourture 3. R2's escape from Cloud City (just open the door, you stupid lunk!) I don't want to seize up all the goodies, let me know if that's too many scenes. -
Yes Pendragon7, welcome and post some of your MOCs please! :)

Welcome! I'm in Toronto too... where do you find the best collection of Lego sets around here? I moved here a couple of years ago and I've been thinking that ToysRUs in the Eglinton station has the best selection, but I'm curious as to where others find their retail bricks.

Hello there builders, I'm DarthTheLing. I've been collecting Star Wars Lego since it started coming out way back in 1997. I find it rewarding to try and build versions of official Star Wars Lego sets, but with improvements. For example, my first posting here on Eurobricks is Cloud City... as I often feel Bespin in general is underused in all of Star Wars' expanded universe. It's my favorite location and a lot of cool things happen there. If you like, take a peek at what I have and let me know what you think: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=59737 I'll also be sharing my version of the Cantina from A New Hope which is complete, a Sandcrawler which will be about one half to one third the size of the official Lego set and I've also got an Endor bunker in the works from spare pieces. Besides Star Wars, I enjoy Transformers and Ghostbusters. I'm in Canada. I'm looking forward to taking a look at all other other MOC's and commenting on them, is it a no-no to necro older MOC threads to add feedback? Cheers, Darth TheLing

Cloud City on Bespin: long overlooked by Lego in spite of it's importance as a location in Star Wars and with such variety of locations for play areas. This summer I had this little project: build a better Cloud City than Lego did (10123) with interior play areas as well as a notional exterior of Cloud City with the top piece in place. Although it's still not completely finished, the bulk of it is to my satisfaction. Feedback welcome and encouraged. The goal was to make a Cloud City with an interior that was mostly movie accurate, but most importantly the playability had to be good. Also, very specific areas needed to be included, namely the carbonite chamber, Han & Leia's suite, the dueling platform, a place to dock the Cloud Car (I modified mine to fit inside the docking area while the ceiling plate was in place), the dining area, a generic white hallway for arrivals/escapes and a red hallway for the "this deal's getting worse all the time" scene. The build is modular and was designed to be split into pieces plus the two extensions from the side (at the moment only the small docking platform and the dueling platform). I am building swap-out extensions hallways at the moment. Overall, we're looking at a four room layout with one reinforcement blob in the middle that became the carbonite chamber. The top plate sits on top without connection; it lifts off with ease and can be set aside. People can be thrown in the chamber. I may look into a claw that extracts the frozen contents. Mostly to finish this set: I would love to get those 4 top plates painted white. The graphics from the previous set are distracting. Once everything's white on the outside it will have more authenticity. Also that Classic Space Lego brick is in place... to remind me to swap out replacement bricks in the correct colors asap. Bes Gas Three is a different floating platform so there's no connection by walkway. "You've got a lot of guts coming here, after what you pulled." The docking platform wouldn't hold a ship unless it was mirco-scale, however landing a ship next to the platform is good enough to greet pirates and old friends seeking shelter and repairs. I've got to get those pieces swapped out for screen-accurate greys. It is a good piece to suspend over a tabletop for Luke-falling goodness. "Join me..." It seems natural to have the freezing chamber in the middle like this. The carbonite pit was a problem at first. I had it built out on the side, but it didn't work with the big fat baseplates as I needed figures to be able to get in/out of there. Then I made it an extension... which was good but Originally the middle of the kit was covered and locked in place with another thick baseplate. Since the carbon freezing chamber is at the heart of Cloud City in the story, so should it be physically in the middle of the ring at the centre. This feature will be improved upon... I'm building a piece that attaches over the pit with pipes and hoses ("most impressive / you'll find I'm full of surprises") and a light-up brick to give the pit itself some glow when carbon-freezing either gas or Jedi or associates of Jedi. Leia truly belongs in the clouds. "Having trouble with your droids?" "I never doubted you for a second. Wonderful!" Swinging the doors upward and sticking them into the holes at the top of these black doorways are effective. If only I could get my hands on some white pieces like these... "But you are not a Jedi yet." Vader is so glass-half-empty about Luke's prospects. Note the "all too easy" switch at the right. We would be honored if you would join us, Boba. Needs to find white chairs for this scene. If it weren't for losing integrity I'd like this doorway to be wider, open at the top and make wide staircases leading up to a plateau on either sides.... since there are many staircases in Cloud City. "This deal's getting worse all the time!" The next time I snap this scene, I'll block it as it appears on screen. Cloud Car on approach. Although the floor looks ugly, it keeps the cloud car in dock. Gotta pick up a few more retro Classic Space Lego dudes. I think they are excellent Cloud City visitors. They must be there to purchase Tibanna gas, why else? ;) At the moment I'm trying to incorporate the following as modular updates, added much like the two extensions are connected now: Han's torture room, garbage room, casino, larger docking platform. I find the EU listings of various casinos very interesting and as well there are some historically important scenarios which took place there such as Han winning the Falcon from Lando, and of course Lando winning the title of ownership over Cloud City itself! Over a game of Sabbac I believe... EDIT: There we go. The images are working from BrickShelf. Many thanks, KieDaMan.
