  1. getting real close now, all the parts for the driving gear are printed now and being assembled, quick video of the first set running. It did take some time to get them running well and the motor struggles a bit when it runs both sets, however when the tender pushes along with the drivers it runs a lot smoother.
  2. well kinda sad I couldn't get my own but hopefully shows interest in trains.
  3. Wew that's a good chunk of pulling power then huh? can't wait to see some videos of them moving now.
  4. Totally understandable, i can respect that.
  5. I would offer a suggestion here, only gear the weighted driver set! this reduces the amount of gearing the train has to use as the drive rods do what they would do on a real a train, of course this would mean you will need a 3d printed drive rod to span the four drivers but ive found it makes operation much smoother due to less friction. the tender connection is a wonderful little thing, some O scale locomotives have a similar draw bar on them that allows the tender to pull out and to the side on curves but pull up close on straight track creating tension with a spring, I also love the piston cylinders very smart use of parts there and looks a lot better then the 3 hole thin lift arms!
  6. oh hoh looking good, how many passenger cars are there going to be?
  7. I have two questions. One, When a project is finished do I update the WIP thread to completed or do I make a new thread for the completed project? Two, Are polls allowed?
  8. really nice, as said in the flickr post love it when the locomotive itself is powered! Its always tricky but it sure is satasfying.
  9. Well seemingly I joined the forum about a year ago and did not see this pinned, I tend to not share to much about my personal self online. But I am from Florida the hell state. I've long been a fan of legos, though it is one of my "main hobbies" my interest in it did not start back up till maybe two three years ago? have a small collection of modular buildings, some star wars stuff and a few MOC's of others laying about and of course my current AC-9 Project. I am very un-orthodox with builds and I break a lot of rules as I come from a model making mindset and if i need to modify a piece i probably will or 3d print a custom part, I really like trains and mechanical stuff and when I decided to make my own locomotive I ended up making it a lego instead of jumping into G scale ( and its a bit cheaper to boot, if you know how to source from stuff efficiently like off bricklink or get some black market lego to fill in gaps ). The community has been more then welcoming and I don't think id have made as much progress if not for the collection of ideas and designs through it, Catch ya'll around.
  10. Love the use of the Sextant there!
  11. Always impressed by people building in the decals/color of the train with brick. wonderful work!
  12. This is fine tbh but I do wish they could just sell the files, I would happily buy the files to print myself. Heck I bough wheels outright for my current project against better money spending judgment, BTD wheels can get expensive to however helping a community business is nice. However I would much rather like to buy the files and print them having a printer myself then buying the 3d printed parts, That way I can still support the small business and get myself wheels. Oh wow these are going to be injection molded??? That sounds wonderful.
  13. Echoing Matt here, I spent a long time looking around and the no the files aren't publicly available sadly. it kinda sucks when doing the 3D models, you might have some luck taking bokspok designs for non lego models and modifying it in tinkercad to get a rough design. pretty easy to resize in tinkercad to but don't try to export models out of Stud.io as they tend to mess up horribly. Personally I just used the default lego wheels and sized them to what I need for visual reference, Would be nice to have the bokspok designs for Stud.io still.
  14. Saw this on flickr! really well done. Would love to see video of it running
  15. Ohh this is a great design, I will have to keep it in mind if i make any locomotives with a 4 wheel leading truck now! Thank you for your work, can't wait to see it running ( in a video perhaps hahah. )
  16. I would love to see the underside of that front end! Even though I personally don't like how tight the R40 curves are its good to have those systems on smaller trains so they can run on them should the need be. But gosh golly I do love streamlined locomotives, She looks gorgeous!
  17. So far she can run fine but I have not been able to do any extensive testing with both motors, Still waiting on the PFx Brick and need to finish a test loop of track but I do not expect any major complications. edit: forgot to add, the front drivers are only connected by a Universal Joint and a Technic Linkage arm ( 2739a ) and i was not expecting it to hold itself together as well as it did! Though I am going to replace the modified lego tile with hole piece with a 3d printed bit as it just is not long enough.
  18. another update, got the rest of the wheels ( shout out to Brick Train Depot ) and half a circle of R104 track in and had to move the linkage from the boiler to the fore drivers back a touch and it goes over smoothly.

  20. Little sneak of my continued work, most of the LED's have been placed and routed, just waiting on the PFx Brick to come in to start programming away. It will be a week or so till my printer finally ships out due to some delays sadly so the running gear is on standby still but the train should be operational by then... now to just find some space to put up a loop of track.
  21. well just caught up with this thread and wanted to add in my 2c, if anything the stifling atmosphere most lego categories have don't apply hard if at all here... things feel more open and free? like I got out of lego's as a teen as anything outside of the box with modifying or 3rd party was looked down on or ruining the investment of lego. But for me lego is a medium in wich i can express more of my modeling skills bring a model to life brought through lego's own isometric restriction of pre-built shapes and make something really wonderful, Its weird but for me the restrictions let me go further outside the box perhaps? I have committed a lot of lego war crimes, but I am not trying to win any official lego competitions or awards, I am just trying to ride that blurred line to make a train as realistic as I can while still staying on the line of it being "Lego" and share the joy of the hobby with others ( i might even end up going to an event at some point if i can! ). Just follow your head and build what you want with what you want, break things, glue 'em back together, Art has no boundaries but the ones you set yourself.
