Fx Bricks (Michael Gale) announces Fx Track system
Ropefish replied to HoMa's topic in LEGO Train Tech
So, i dunno if this is the correct place to talk about it but i don't see any other thread for the PFx Brick specifically but it would be great to see some firmware and software updates to the brick itself and the desktop app, the mobile app seems to have options that do not line up with with the desktop app resulting in some funky things now and then. Another thing is it would be great to have gated playback loops set to the index notches as it has some really bad playback at high speeds sadly, and i have had a lot of problems where the indexed notches just get reset when trying to set any custom config of notches. -

Well this has got me a lot of things to consider, I think the PFx brick has similar control profiles to the PUhub but not the whole... detection thing hahah.- 578 replies

Ropefish replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yea the big stinker is if i move to PUp i can't use the PFx brick with it.... well without some hard wiring modifications, i am not bereft of options gladly but boy i have a lot of touch choices.- 578 replies

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
Ropefish replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I have an odd thing i want to try but wish to explain to see if I am crazy or not, if I have a locomotive powered both from the tender and locomotive with a XL motor in the tender and L motor in the locomotive at 1:1 would those even out due to the wheel difference between drivers ( #10 LL ) and tender wheels ( #5 S), i say this as adding two XL motors would require a massive redesign i am not to eager to pull off however fitting the XL in the tender would be far simpler.- 578 replies

BR89 (90% BB, 10% TLG) and TurnTable (99% TLG)
Ropefish replied to Toastie's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Bit late to this, but i will add on to kadee couplers, however.... most of my experience in O scale is that people just use a skewer of some kind to decouple them as the magnetic system sometimes just doesn't work right or is to messy to set up. I still love the kadee's though as they are just perfect, and i would say bit more affordable then the lego magnets now. -
WIP Portland's Union Station (Or)(will be 2 year project)
Ropefish replied to Barduck's topic in LEGO Train Tech
oh my getting close now! I am in all honestly not great with buildings but i do love the simple structure with inverted plates to give texture. though the center of the top frame seems to droop under its weight, i assume its structurally sound aside from visually not looking so? -
it pains me to not be able to go to these events! just to see everyone's models running around on display...

it started at around 1/48th but is probably just a bit off due to lego being lego.... I focused more on wanting to get details in then going for a perfect scale, even among O scale different brands have slightly different scales between models so i don't min d it to much. Granted i don't have a layout to put it on for any comparisons but it should be fine, i made some compromises to get it to what i had pictured in my head haha.

wonderful build, getting a lot of use out of that window piece!

glad to see your progress, love seeing people do massive train stations! -
hah hah thank you, i really wanted to go big with the sound for such a project and the PFx brick was worth it despite some issues i have with it. Hah, well Im glad it runs on R104 but i think it might run worse on anything smaller! The locomotive is 100% done now, though I will wait to get a large paper backdrop to get some better photos for a finished post plus some video of it running! in the meantime enjoy some images and this album i threw together https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjzTrbm

absolutely love the brick usage in the tanker cars. wonderful build.

made my day thanks xD

Wonderful post process work on the 3D printed part, I am considering a similar option as I want to build a SP PA/B-1 to sit along with my AC-9, what was the design process for the part like?
-
The part usage in this brings a smile to my face, makes me almost regret building my locomotive around 9 wide!

I did not even know that this was a thing! Its a great looking model and I learned a little bit of history to.

The locomotive is now 99.5% complete, finalizing some stuff with Okbrickworks and ill have some decals to top off the build! in the meantime this is a demonstration of the train running. Now one thing you might notice here, why isn't the chuffing synced? well, that's because either A. im to dumb or B. there is no way to do what i want with the PFx brick. I originally was using gated looping for the locomotive, however this presented the problem of the chuffing starting to early in slow speeds or when stopped ( it takes a bit for the motors to start moving the weight of the locomotive ) or when it gets up to full speed the gating sounds horrible and tries to reply the sound to fast. Indexed playback solves this slightly in that I can have the audio I want at the steps I want... however... Indexed playback has a bit of a bug where if you change at what point the step transitions to the next with its sliders, it resets all index slider and notch count settings when the brick restarts, there is also no way to have a notch be a gated playback loop, which I ideally want to do having a gated playback of a slow and fast chuff between stopped/slow and full speed sound effects. Maybe I can wrangle the attention of PFx bricks about this, but for now it is mostly what I want and can't really complain about that. You might also noticed the front driver segment is no longer powered, I was running into far to many issues on R104 tests where the drivers needed to space just slightly in or out which the universal joint did not allow for and the added gearing caused a whole lot more strain. So i redid the gearing and at least now the weighted driver on the main driver set is powered so there is still a rule of cool. Compromises had to be made and I'm just glad they did not involve an entire redesign

that bridge would be wonderful to see at a show.
