Fantastic model. Looks great. Do you have some video footage of the functions? -
Generic Contest Discussion

I like the idea of something pneumatic and no PF allowed. How about creating a universal building set: create a set of pieces with pneumatic element like 1 pump and a max. of 3 cylinders. The part range should enable the building of 3 different small/mid size models. Use a few parts a possible and make the set as versatile as possible. This would lead to a great amount of different models and part sets. -
Lego is pricey indeed. But compared to other model building hobbies, it's OK. Given the fact, that you can use the parts on RC cars with all that glue and bolts only once, Lego becomes more efficient in terms of recycling parts for new builts. Last year I passed on the 42030. I bought the bucket and a few of those new elements and built it from my inventory. Same goes for the 42029. For this year I'll pass on the crawler crane and just get the new transmission parts and the Acros.

I don't think so. Pneumatically operated function are the 2 stages of the boom, the extension of the 2nd stage and the clamp shell/bucket. Sums up to four. The rotation of the crane module is most likely similar to the 8110 unimog solution.
-
I want those pneumatic cylinders now. They seem quite long: 8 or nine studs. The long 1x1 looks quite realistic. The outriggers and the last extendable stage of the boom seem to be a new part with a corresponding housing.

Looks interesting! I'm not sure: is the claw operated by string of by that knob wheel on its side? The boom says "extend me!".

Model Team: Roddin
TinkerBrick replied to Perterz's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great Hotrod, esp. the steering mechanism. Does it actually has some ground clearance - it's not visible from the pictures for me. -
To solve this preliminary images issue, i suggest that someone hands them over to dokludi. This way we could be discussing the replicas he will have made by Sunday evening.

Looks great. I really like your custom drop-in battery pack. How do the 9V blocks last? -

I just got the update for the iOS app. First test proves the 100% issue is solved. No more power cap above 95% of the slider/joystick movement. Of course, you have to update the sBricks firmware first.- 771 replies

NMOCs You've built
TinkerBrick replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've built Madoca's Wing Body Truck, D3K's Swing Loader MKII, PG52's Spirograph and Guilliug's New Holland excavator. As for modded sets i've done Jurgen's Ultimate 8043 and 42009. Edit: Forgot Nathanael Kuipers Therion Supercar. -

Your Best Technic Bargains

I just shot a 8275 Bulldozer at eBay for 91€+shipping. Sadly no box, but seems to be in good shape. -
For me it is about the price, the overall appearance and the novelty of pieces. I rarely buy sets for the MSRP, excluding those exclusive to TLG's own retail channels. So if there is a good price, i might be tempted. The novelty of pieces is more interesting to me. I'm passing on this years Volvo. Besides the bucket, i had all the pieces in my inventory (i don't care about small breaks in the color scheme). So i ordered to the bucket via TLG's CS. IMHO the last must have flagship was the 8110 Unimog, not to mention its predecessors (8258 and 8043). Well, i got the 2 later ones too, but mostly for the parts. The 9398 is technically boring, but a fun toy and it got the new motors. The 42009 crane is more or less OK, but only cool in its ultimate version.

Congratulations to the winners and "chapeau" to all the contestants. It was a great contest to follow with lots of surprises. Many thanks to Jim for hosting this event.

I think TLG's release schedule is pretty much in sync with the shopping season. I you look at the whole supply chain it is timed to meet production and demand: Kick off for the shopping season is the Nuremberg toy fair in February. TLG presents its 2H line up with individual release dates for each theme/set. The retailers place their orders and TLG starts producing. The flag ship are released in August, though hitting some shelfs not till September. This way TLG can stock up according to fixed orders, while preserving some resources during fall to produce the smaller 1H sets and react to late orders.

iPhone 6 Dolly
TinkerBrick replied to Charbel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great Job on low cost filming equipment. Those dollies are not cheap. I'll try to look into your (if I can find some time). I'm sure it can be improved by added features like adjustable lockable steering. I don't know if a suspension would be helpful. An iPhone 6 has image stabilisation built in. -
When i first saw the body, i thought of this kind of Zaporozhets. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/68/Zaz968m.jpg/220px-Zaz968m.jpg
