Always good to see another rock crawler in the making :) I'm about to publish one soon as well! About the gearing, you don't need more down-gearing. My rock bouncer had this amount of gearing from the slow output of two buggy motors and it had plenty of torque, but was a bit too slow for speed racing. Then my blue buggy had 1:1 gearing (12:12 diffs) to the planetary hubs from the fast outputs of two buggy motors, and it was still enough for not so extreme off-roading! However, another point you should keep in mind is controllability of speed. If you make it too fast, it will be hard to control on the rocks. It's good if it has some punch left for some climbs, but too much speed is not needed for climbing. I think the current gearing is a good start.

[MOC] Chevrolet Blazer 1975
gyenesvi replied to damjan97PL's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is so cute, I've seen it already on FB, nice shaping, and the wheels go so well with it! One question, why didn't you use white micro panels on the side of the top? Good reminder that I also want to build this car on a larger scale with RC at some point.. -
This is such a nice peek behind the scenes, it's great to have some understanding of how things are designed, and lots of really interesting details here! I wonder if the Technic teams is open for such interviews or not. Have you tried something similar with them @kbalage? I remember something a few years back about PU development, but not much about technic in general. Wouldn't Grohl be open for such an interview for example?

It's indeed really cool to see that they immediately come in two useful colors! I think Lego is stepping up their inventory game, as seen by the improvements to PaB deliveries as well, so I expect that the trend of getting more and more recolors is just going to keep on, thankfully. -

Well, indeed, not much is visible on the video.. Any more details? -
[APP] BrickController2
gyenesvi replied to imurvai's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think it's just not maintained any more, he probably does not have time/interest. Also, probably, it would be too much work to pick it up again, because all the old code became outdated over time. Sometimes it takes a lot of time just to get your old code compile again on a new computer, and onto new phones, whic evolve md over the years.. Plus you have to pay an annual fee to Apple if you want to keep releasing apps for iPhone.. so I would not expect any updates here.- 1,316 replies

Oh my.. That is beautiful, and very functional / playable at the same time! Really nice shaping all around, and efficient motorization, with a good resulting speed. It just show how much potential is left on the table by Lego electronics. RC Brick used to be a 3rd party product by some russian maker, but it was never really sold outside of russia, apart from a few pieces I guess. It's basically a small box with an ESC in it and you can connect your receiver to it from the bottom. It has two PF ports on the top (channels 1 and 2) and the steering channel also has a standard servo output on the side. It would be a handy product..

Sure, but maybe not in this scale, all packed into a nice shell. I think this is quite okay. -
Yeah, this. If it's got to be cars, at least make those more varied and more interesting. +1 for older cars and also I think off-roaders are underrepresented nowadays (I have the feeling that there used to be more a decade ago), and they are opportunities for more interesting and challenging suspensions and drivelines. At least some of this year's cars represent good direction, like the Bronco. Keep that up!

I've been testing the Buwizz app lately as I wanted to use the new PU motor speed control feature for the truck trial event in the Buwizz camp, but man, this app is just not getting any better. For one, steering is just even worse than it was, calibration not running properly, sudden movements to one side breaking my model all the time on startup/shutdown, drifting off center during use, and stuttering heavily. As for the speed control feature, it worked nicely for a simple model, but when I wanted to control 3 motors at the same time, it's just acting weirdly; sometimes not moving, sometimes making sudden jumps (also on shutdown). Even the UI is confusing; when I set up a speed control module, I set which lever it controls, but then when I want to connect the same speed controller to another motor, I cannot select it again, unless I associate it again with the same lever. I don't know if this unnecessary re-mapping process might screw up something.. Anyways, I've been tinkering with the BW protocol again, testing things, and I think I have also found another bug in the FW. When I switch to speed/angle control mode, sometimes there's a sudden motor movement. I have been monitoring the PID controller state, and I see that in these cases the PID state is not zero after the switch, that may cause the jump, as there is activation in the PID controller. I think the PID state might get filled with some garbage when the motor is running in normal power mode, or due to other FW commands, and it's not cleared before switching to a mode that would use the PID controller. Shame, because this way it is impossible to make a controller that would do speed control with one button and power control with another.. Also, I tried if I can send (normal PF) power control commands while in (PU) speed control mode; that has no effect (even though both could work at the same time, the PU mode should only effect PU commands). So that way again it's not possible to use both power/speed control simultaneously. What I'd like to achieve is precise speed with one button and max power with the other. BTW, I never understood how the BC2 app can get the steering so smooth, but now I also got to understand that; it probably just uses the default PID settings of the FW :) With the FW default, steering control is quite smooth, not much stuttering. The BW app manages to overwrite the FW default, and probably that causes all the non-smooth steering. Fantastic.. This is why everyone uses BC2 even in the BW event.

Some corrections to the video, because it has some false information in it: - There's a difference between plain wheel hubs and portal hubs. This set does not have portal hubs, just plain ones, despite you saying that several times in the video. - This set does not have Audi hubs (which are not portal either), despite you saying so in the video. Those are just regular old steering hubs, since we can see the red towballs in them, and the black 4L CV joints are the old type, while the Audi has heavy duty CV joint connections. Note the difference. One tip for making a review video: it's completely pointless to say things like, "connect some beams, add more gears", and "add some lego pieces". It contains no information, since that's what we do all the time while building. Sometimes, less is more. And what about the reference to subscribing to RacingBrick instead of your channel??? Not sure what you're trying to say with that.. Ps: you got the title right this time :) About the car: nice functions and great new parts! I wonder how those rim covers would look with bigger (off-road) tires..

When somebody puts out an io file for free, it's typically because they don't want to spend time with organizing things into steps and making instructions. So even 4 steps may just be an accidental artifact of Studio. You should be able to just hide parts and see how it's built inside and make it for yourself based on that.

And did you print any already? How is the quality? Do you plan to experiment with new shapes/sizes? What's the goal?
