Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
To play devil's Sauron's advocate, they don't need to find products that will sell, they need to maximize their profit overall. A single, large set being popular is great, but when you consider licensing, design, logistics, tooling, and opportunity cost, they might decide that it's better to do something else. I really hope they don't, but they might. -
Wow! That's fabulous. Great work!

The trailer for the movie has released and I can't see the spaceship in it anywhere. There is a very brief glimpse of him at 1:57 in the trailer, in a space suit in space, but the suit is white, not Black, and looks close to a standard City space suit. Also, the dialogue feels really flat and monotone - especially Pharrell. The LEGO stuff looks good. The music is great. But this feels like it will be a really dull experience between all the songs!

10337 Lamborghini Countach Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
In a way, it's almost too big of a problem to choose such an iconic car as a LEGO set as you will always struggle to get all the details correct. I think it looks decent given that it's made of LEGO, but it looks relatively poor as a model, given that there are so many die-cast options that are perfect. This is the reason I've stayed away from LEGO car models, although did get the 911 as it was particularly good and I liked many of the alt builds that were made. The thing that irks me the most about this (and the recent BTAS Batmobile) are the wheel arches. It feels like LEGO should probably consider a few new parts for larger scale vehicle wheel arches if they want them to be more accurate. -

Well, my Barad Dur and Fell Beast have just arrived. Phew! But I'm away this weekend and for the week afterwards, so will definitely be a while before I can consider building it. Still annoyed at the GWP being so limited. Really frustrating for everyone that couldn't order in the first 12 hours. -
I got my order in with no issues, which was great. Looking forward to these. So far, series 2 is the strongest grouping to me, so I ordered four of them. Left out the logging railway, because as nice as it is, it's mostly bridge, and I have two small children who like to play with them all, so it would get destroyed too quickly and too often.

I tell you what, it won't make them Happy.

It's just so dull. It's clever how they've created a stable enough base for something that looks so thin, tall, and angled. But otherwise, really dull. It looks like a $60 set to me, which means even at 50% off RRP it will still feel too expensive. Similar for the BTS set. I recognize it was reflecting the original media, but I didn't like the style and so even at 40% off, I wasn't tempted by it as the parts weren't interesting enough. What a shame.

Lord of the Rings Fellbeast Moc
RichardGoring replied to FarQuaad_bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Nice! I'm wondering whether to build some variation of this too. I think I prefer it to the official set. Especially since you could sell the GWP and pay for a full set of nine of these!- 13 replies

Yep, was going to say that could easily make this a $1000 set. Given the way Barad Dur seems to have sold, and the demand for the Fell Beast, they could put a load of figures in Minas Tirith and people would likely buy it. It might allow them to do it justice too. But also, $1000... I love the idea of Hobbiton. Definitely helps it to make the likely price they'd want to charge. This theme is crying out for dioramas though. There are so many that would work amazingly well. -
Definitely agree that there is a lot of very intense piece usage there, and each wave makes me appreciate the elegance and efficiency of official LEGO designs. There are really lovely ones though, but a lot of repetition. I love the old woman who lives in a shoe and the mushroom village as interesting fairytale sets. I hope one of the more interesting castles gets through, something that looks a little different from what has gone before. Oh, and I hope the adventure in Transylvania makes it, because despite the piece count, it looks awesome!

Fair review from The Brother's Brick. It might be a case of just buying the pieces for the train. The idea of the bridge never really appealed to me, although I have small children and expect everything to be played with. The rest still look great to me. Let's see if they all make it and/or how quickly they sell out.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
But wouldn't all the space exhibit in the Natural History Museum account for that? It's a nice idea, but I don't know how it would fit into a modular street, as observatories are normally in remote places. Also, I have the Bricklink Designer Program observatory, so for purely selfish reasons, I hope it's something else! -

If that's the case, then I heard that all LEGO YouTubers were supposed to donate 20% of their ad revenue to Eurobricks as part of their ongoing LAN membership. LEGO wants to ensure the forum's continued presence as a source of genuine information and discussion. -

It's definitely store specific as there are reports of some stores having lines before opening that were so long, that not everyone got a set or GWP. What ridiculous price are people now putting on the GWP on eBay? If this one of those instances where you think it's better to sell it so you can buy all the prices to increase the tower height? And possibly make the wonderful MOC that Hachiroku24 did on YouTube? -

I doubt it. That was my hope for the Mimic GWP for the D&D set, but it didn't happen. -

Oh wow! I was being relaxed about the fell beast, as it's in a retail box, so thought there would be more of them. Anyway, slept through and woke up in the US at 6:30, when I ordered it. Still in stock here though, fortunately.
