They look great. The cat certainly looks like it has a new tail. The cockatoo is lovely. We so need a new parrot!- 5,907 replies

21348 Lego Ideas Dungeons & Dragons and D&D CMF
RichardGoring replied to Black Falcon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't think this is necessarily true. Currently, they do a single production run of a finite number and then move onto the next series/something else. They are very likely to base that production number on anticipated demand (for CMFs in general) and likely sales rates, so that the vast majority get sold at RRP in good time - retailers don't want stuff hanging around on shelves for too long. For some they may under-produce to market potential, but for others, like Vidiyo series 1, the market demand wasn't there. But they don't really know what that will be until at least the start of sales, at which point it's too late to change production as something else is already in place. If they made CMFs available to order to solve for this, where does that production capacity come from? Their current capacity is going to be pretty maxed out and optimized for selling things in large volume waves, so they can't interrupt it. If they add extra capacity to float on top, it will likely cost more to operate than standard large volume production, so higher costs, and less profitable for LEGO. Not to mention that if they did add more capacity, could they maximize profitability by focusing on yet more high volume production. Or yet another type of mid-small batch production to chase a new market, rather than the tail of an existing market? Of course, some or all of that could be wrong too, but the answer of 'just make more and be profitable' isn't necessarily true and seems unlikely to lead to optimal profits. Otherwise LEGO would likely already be doing it. What I really hopes happen is that a chunk of these components make their way into regular retail sets. That opens up more production capacity for them, and, critically, access to individual elements through Pick a Brick.- 686 replies

Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
In general, my understanding is that a lot of the early leaks about set numbers, names, piece counts, and prices come from retail partners. But D2C set information isn't shared with retailers, and so leaks are less common and/or not as early. Unless LEGO does something like put preliminary photos in a survey given to the general public with no NDA, or accidently hit publish on a press release in a specific country. You know, professional stuff like that! -
I had Forbidden Island and Caribbean Clipper as a child, and still have them now. I don't think I could separate them, but my children are (currently) drawn towards Forbidden Island, as there is a lot of play with it. Quite a staggering amount compared to modern sets, especially with so few pieces. Totally glorious, and still two of my favourite sets today.

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Just watched Tiago Catarino's review of 10391 and the actual ship looks pretty drab at any angle other than from the top. So not only is it overpriced, but doesn't feel like a great design either, which is a shame. I think the billowing clouds at the bottom are excellent though. It's a shame that the rainbow trail has to be quite so large, but I get it. Definitely some good techniques to consider for a custom base for another ship. -

I am correct, thanks! In which case, I wonder why they didn't do printed legs for this figure?- 686 replies

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

It's based on a Pharrell Williams movie about his life and sadly is neither big, nor good value. https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/over-the-moon-with-pharrell-williams-10391 Oops. Didn't see the page break and that this has already been answered. -

I think that's also why they're not printed (which has been another complaint against the figure). I've not seen printed mid-legs before, I don't think?- 686 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I built the Hogwarts alt-build University modular by Bolt Builds on Rebrickable and love it. It's a gothic architecture style and it totally works, especially against more civic buildings like the brick bank, fire brigade, and also the Parisian Restaurant. I also like the way you can potentially double up the figures with the Dragonborn. The torso and legs are excellent standalone and can be used for one figure, while the armour could be used over another figure to give you the knight. From Pick a Brick you could spend $2.5 on legs, torso, two heads, two helmet/hair, and a sword, and you get two excellent figures. The dwarf, by comparison really only gives you the torso and axe towards a massable figure, which is a shame. Although I understand why, and it might detract from it too much to attempt to make it excellent for castle stuff.- 686 replies

Latest news about Lego animal moulds
RichardGoring replied to Roebuck's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think the seal is white. The colour of the white plates near the seal shows as light brown on the front, as they're in shadow and possibly reflecting from the table. It's a pretty similar brown for the seal, suggesting the shadow, and maybe table, are contributing to the eerie translucent effect of it! On the other hand, Winter Village and Hallowe'en cross over potential... ghost seal!- 5,907 replies

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
It looks great! I like the chutes for the mail, that's fun. I hope they provide sufficient letter tiles for it. The new curved pieces really help with the snow covered roof. Why is there a fireplace on the outside? Not sure where 1440 pieces go though. It looks pretty small for that. But it looks fair for $100. -

Yes, it's a very fair point and an excellent argument for keeping them. More animals is probably better, in general, than better animals, for smaller things where you can't really see that much of the detail anyway.- 5,907 replies

I'm on the 'hoping for a new crab mould train'. Or at least, something where they print the eyes to add consistency with other animals - including the lobster and hermit crab.- 5,907 replies

[REVIEW] 71047 D&D Collectible Minifigure Series
RichardGoring replied to MKJoshA's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great write up. I agree that the lack of printing on the front of the tail is odd and would very much have preferred it to blend in with the torso. I bought a full set - for a future D&D game with the main set - and then bought individual figures that I wanted for a castle setting. In initially skipped the Tiefling because thought the orange band was part of the torso print. Glad I can remove it at least. The halfling is probably my favourite. I really like woodland-folk characters (and it will help to add variety to the forestmen crew I have). It's a shame they didn't use a recolour of the paladin's mace for Sauron in the Barad-dur set. I also hope it gets used more in future. -

I also saw that the Walmarts around me are starting to get them in stock, so I went this evening. I did use the app and found an extra halfling druid and a Tiefling Sorcerer, because the dragon is cool! But the main reason was to get some Dragonborn Paladins. They had three nearly new boxes and I got the four paladins that I wanted. Interestingly, all were still there (nine paladins in total), with just some figures taken off the top row. I found the Paladins all clustered in the bottom left side of each box, next to the halfling druid. I can stop looking now, as I have all I want.- 686 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 27. Rumors and discussion
RichardGoring replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The list sounds great to me. At least, it has a lot of potential and my expectations are high with those names. But they could turn out a number of less interesting figures to, so it's going to be interesting to see what they are. The potential for new animal moulds here is good. The beastmaster and cat lover both suggest new animals or new moulds - I'd love to get a different cat, preferably sitting down. As much as I like the idea of another new castle figure and pirate figure, it's probably the steampunk inventor that's most exciting. I do wish they'd create a steampunk line of sets a la Sea Cow. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
RichardGoring replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
LEGO leaks on Reddit has a rumored list of series 27 CMF figures. It's from Exabricks, which isn't always reliable though. However, if true, the list looks very promising indeed! Stuff for castle, pirates, space, and steampunk!
