21348 Lego Ideas Dungeons & Dragons and D&D CMF
RichardGoring replied to Black Falcon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I was the same as you. Not interested in Baymax nor the mind flayer. I'm not saying they're the most popular from each wave, but I was surprised they were sold out or lower stock from my very small sample size, and comments from the LEGO store employee both times.- 686 replies

21348 Lego Ideas Dungeons & Dragons and D&D CMF
RichardGoring replied to Black Falcon's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
But what are the in-demand figures? For the Disney 100 Baymax was sold out everywhere around me, which I found really surprising. The mind flayer appears to be really popular for D&D, which again was surprising. Others might know why these were so popular and predict it. But then, if you make more of the 'popular' ones, does that means that the rarer ones become more popular because they are rarer? I suspect that LEGO and retailers make so much money from CMFs that they don't care about the niggles of optimizing the distribution too much, and that damage/clearance may be a pretty small impact on the overall profitability. LEGO just needs to keep churning out stuff that keeps it fresh and people wanting more of them.- 686 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
RichardGoring replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I have just built my first Star Wars set. 77904 Nebulon-B Frigate. I've only seen some of the Star Wars movies once. I don't remember this ship from any of them. But it looks really cool. I didn't try to buy it when it was released with all the limited release stuff going on, but I admired it. I recently realized that you could get pretty much everything from PIck a Brick, and I just needed two parts to be a slightly different colour from the original (just a different shade of grey), so got all the parts for about $50. (I don't need the expensive sticker). Wow, what a build. Pretty much the entire process was incredible. Such clever use of parts, positioning, geometry, and all in an elegant and efficient way. It was a real joy, which is pretty incredible for something that's 90% grey parts! You may all be onto something if the builds are this good. Might have to look into some of the retail midi-scale ships now. Any recommendations? -

Disney Properties 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Agreed. It's such a shame that you can't pair them with a simultaneous purchase. I think Mickey suffers from being scaled down a little and I'm kind of sad that Aladdin was removed. Not including Ariel seems odd, and I think the composition of the set would have benefited from the shape and colour pops that a minifigure would bring on the right-hand side. Pride Rock looks much better, and I love the inclusion of the enchanted broom sticks - that's the idea I voted for in the original competition. -

I've used Minifig Scan since the QR codes started, on my Android (Pixel 6a and now Pixel 7a). It works really well, and helped me find the D&D figures I wanted at my local LEGO store this weekend in a few minutes. Minifig Scan - Apps on Google Play- 686 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
RichardGoring replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
By definition it will be licensed. It will be an F1 license. And then each CMF will likely be one of the teams, perhaps with two helmets for each of the drivers? Maybe the safety car for the 12th? The idea just seems so pointless for F1. It's a series of cars that are, at a CMF scale, even at Speed Champions scale, essentially the same, just with different colors and sponsors. So what's the point in doing this as a CMF? Oh well. -
Yes, all the Dreamzzz parts. I got one of each of the torsos, a blue bunny, and several kittens. My children were with me, so we had to get quite a few kittens!

From what I've experienced personally, scanning figures in new/nearly new boxes (from about three of them I think), the figures have been packed in groups, so you'll have three next to each other, then another three, and so on. If that still holds, then it's likely why you got three Dragonborns.- 686 replies

I went to a LEGO store today, fully expecting them to be sold out. But they still had a full box worth (split over two boxes) and I got all the six duplicates that I wanted (full set ordered and on the way), plus an extra two Dragonborn (for four in total). The staff said they didn't think there was enough for a full set, but I think everything was there. Curiously, there was another Dragonborn available. The Gith Warlock, Tiefling Sorcerer, Mindflayer, and Strahd von Zarovich were all very low on stock with just one or two remaining.- 686 replies

Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
It's very reminiscent of the original Post Office van and the train station bus, and I can understand the desire to build something similar so that there is continuity. But it might also suffer from trying to be too many things in such a small model. And, unlike it's predecessors, the random colour scheme just doesn't seem to reflect it very well. Cutting down some of the colours might really help. Yes, very good point! Definitely feels like a bin build! -

40746 Santa's delivery truck photo is out. It's nice to get a smaller set that's not a GWP, but I don't love it. I think it's the coloring that puts me off, which is fine as it's an easy fix. It's got red, green, dark green, and tan. I suspect that if the green was replaced with red then it would look much better. But I also get that it's a Santa set, rather than real world, so they have to use those colors. It has a 'Post' logo sticker on the side too, perhaps pointing further towards the hot air balloon having a Post Office with it. -
No, I don't think so. It looks like this one. https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=13786pb02&in=S

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Ah, but the consideration was for new modulars that take the same function as old ones. A new fire station, town hall, cinema, bank etc. Not a replica of the old ones, but how would people feel about a new fire station of a different style? You could argue that Boutique Hotel was this, in that it has a hotel and a cafe of sorts, like Cafe Corner did. Bookshop had a townhouse, which Petshop also had. But they are perhaps a little more generic than some of the others. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
RichardGoring replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Every AFOL would hate it as it devalues the old ones, or doesn't get an important detail of an old one right, or it doesn't look as good as the old one, or it takes up a slot that could have been a new function. Every AFOL would love it, as it means they can get cinema or fire station or bank that they didn't have before, or it's great to see the homage and Easter eggs for older sets, or it shows that LEGO understands what they want. I think it would be fine, but I suspect it may not happen for a while as there is a long list of things they've not done. And the designers will very likely generally want to do something new and be unencumbered by the past. And it has the potential of liming the market for people who already have a town hall or fire station, or bank, or whatever they come up with. Different style, yes, but will it put some people off? Might be a risk they don't need to take, so why bother? -

I don't think I'd seen the wreath before. It looks great, but also feels expensive. That might be unfair, as it is bigger than the previous one. -
I thought the same thing. Another option for a potential medieval peasant.

Halloween BAM figures found on eBay and shown on Reddit. A pumpkin/jack o latern phantom, green-skinned witch, and punk skeleton. And a full-size dark orange cat.
-
The most recent run of BAM figures suffered from supply issues so only a small amount has been sent to a small subset of stores too (at least in the US). So it could be really hard to get!

Initial impression of the 66 Batmobile is great. It looks fabulous and very striking. However, I'm not instantly familiar with the details of it, and a very quick look at a photo of the original reveals that once again LEGO has messed up on the wheel arch shape. Instead of being a nice smooth curve around the wheel, they have an awful blocky shape that's nothing close to the wheel shape. And now I can't unsee it and it's terrible. It's the same on the BTAS Batmobile, which was so disappointing. It looks really inelegant. Made worse by the fact that the 1989 UCS Batmobile didn't suffer from this issue and had pretty perfect wheel arches. Sigh. Lack of Robin is also such an odd choice. I wonder if it's a licensing issue at this point?
