I was reluctant to fork out the stupendous amount of money for this set, but your review convinced me Nice Poll -

[WIP] First MOC
Jim replied to MECHTAN999's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Please take a look at the tutorial I posted earlier. You should upload to Flickr and then deeplink the 800 wide version. It's explained in the Tutorial. There's no need to upload pictures to EB. -

Having a 42009 still MISB, I just pledged for the 2 bricks and crane instructions. I will probably keep the set MISB until November, so I can turn in into the Ultimate 42009S- 771 replies

[WIP] First MOC
Jim replied to MECHTAN999's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No problem. When you create a topic for a MOC, make sure to add a picture. Otherwise it won't be interesting for other members. I have updated my comment and removed the word empty, which didn't make sense -
[MINI] 8852 Robot
Jim replied to barman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really like your steering mechanism. It's very...out of the box! Recently I have been working on a Mini model myself for which I needed a compact steering mechanism. I would have never thought of rotating the rack by 90 degrees. I guess that sets apart the gifted builders from the mediocre ones -

Jim replied to MECHTAN999's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, Thanks for posting your MOC! However, please don't post an empty a topic without actual content. It's not very interesting to us without information and/or pictures. For starters; what is it or what will it be? You can link smaller version of Flickr images. There's a great tutorial for this over here. Hope to see your progress here! -
Maybe they are, but that still doesn't mean that they can't be used for other vehicles as well. So maybe you are right, but from a Business Economic perspective it makes more sense that TLG will be "re-using" these wheels/tires. I certainly do hope they will be used in other Technic sets, just like the Unimog wheels.
-
True. My best guess is that TLG will release a new Technic set with these wheels. Would be a real shame if they didn't. And I see no reason why not. This set is really awesome. I would have liked actual steering and suspension, but there will probably be a modded "Ultimate UCS Tumbler" at some point

Which is better, a seperate topic/model or a common topic for author
Jim replied to Zerobricks's topic in Community
I'm fine with either approach, although I do think that a separate topic for each model is probably better. -
There are indeed lots of great entries! And I really like the way the contestants are presenting their creations. A compliment to all of you! As for the voting; it will be the same as the Triple Build contest. You get 10 points to distribute with a maximum of 5 points per entry. And you must use all points. More information will follow in the voting thread, which I will make when the contest has been closed.

Model Team Definition
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree. Actually, the reason I asked was not to separate MT from Technic, but I was thinking of giving MT some special attention in the near future. But in order to do that, I need to know what the definition of MT is I think that we've come to the conclusion that there's a thin line between past MT and some of the Creator models. Currenlty I think of present MT (if this would exist) as a Technic model with a "brick bodywork" or "brick finish". And the model should have more technical functions than moving parts (opening the door on the MINI for example). To make things more complicated; how about a Mindstorms creation with a brick built bodywork -

Nice work! Love your presentation in the entry topic -
This is indeed quite different than the 41999 release. Just check Marktplaats. There will be shops or people selling for a nice price!

What about the MINI? And what about this Creator set: This has more functions than most of the Model Team sets -

Model Team Definition
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What I'm saying is that TLG won't reintroduce the Model Team as a theme since they have the Creator line. So I think there's need for another category. Maybe Creator Export should be the replacement of Model Team. Exactly! Creator Creator Modular Creator Architecture Creator Expert -

It does make sense what you are saying. The MINI looks awesame and has few/none functions, so it would be Model Team, right? But I'm thinking more in the line of Creator series. TLG has introduced the Creator series, which is a great theme (imho). But there is too much diversity in it. Creator and Creator Expert is simply not sufficient. -
Model Team Definition
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looking at the Model Team models in Interceptor's great collection, I can't help but think that most of these models have a single feature, which is steering. There's even a powerboat, which has ... features? When we compare some of the models with this one, I think this is more Technic than some of the Model Team models. However, this model lacks the looks to be genuine Model Team. Why we can't clearly figure it out, is probably the reason why TLG stopped the Model Team theme and started the Creator theme. I would love to see Model Team return, as Creator Technic or Creator Model Team or whatever. Creator Creator Expert Creator Technic/Model Team -
I'm afraid I don't know that.

It's in my review, in the press release section: Available for VIPs from July 18th.

Exactly! That's one of the reasons why I am asking. If the MINI would have steering, it would definitely be like Model Team. There's a thin line between Model Team and Creator sometimes: http://brickset.com/...22-1/Turbo-Quad http://brickset.com/...aring-Roadsters http://brickset.com/.../4955-1/Big-Rig http://brickset.com/...ool-Convertible http://brickset.com/.../Off-Road-Power -

Hi, This forum is dedicated to Technic, Mindstorms & Model Team. Model Team is more or less the Dinasaur of the party. It went extinct several years after the http://brickset.com/...10151-1/Hot-Rod Hot Rod appeared in 2004. I am very interested in your take on Model Team. My primary question is: How would you define Model Team? But I am also interested in: How does it compare to the Creator series? Is Creator a worthy replacement? Would you like to have a dedicated subtheme in Creator, for example Technic Creator. Any insights are appreciated.
