Reviewing other people's MOCs
Jim replied to Osuharding1's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Exactly! I would feel the same way. Thanks! If you are also into other themes, you might see more of them soon -
[MINI] Grand Prix Racer
Jim replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree with Allan. Although I really like the third one as a normal MOC, from the contest point of view (official Technic) I would go for the second version. -

I am not a great builder, so I wouldn't know But I have been thinking about writing a review for such a model. For example the Technic Snowspeeder. -
[MINI] Micro Bulldozer
Jim replied to Doc_Brown's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Maybe we can do a Micro Machine Theme Month after the contest. This would make a nice MOC for that. You've managed to make a very well looking model with very few parts -
Technic 2H2014 Reviews
Jim replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice video review!! I did like the build, but I must admit that there's nothing spectacular. Great to see the Train remote is doing a great job. Would be great to have a special remote for these kind of vehicles. I will add a link to your video review in my written review, if that's okay with you. -
[MINI] Skid Loader

You could use Bricklink to order different wheels. Won't be that expensive. And you are definitely joining the contest mister! -

Hi Bruno! Welcome to EB! Nice of you to join. Technic is actually one of the biggest and most active themes on EB I will move this topic to the right forum now.
-
Though one. I don't think this model would make it as an official Technic set, but it is an example why I accepted Model Team at first. It's definitely more Technic than Model Team.

[MINI] Skid Loader

Hope you will join more often, because this is a great entry! -
You did understand the rules correctly and I allowed Pneumatics. So go ahead and use Pneumatics if you will. But the purpose of the contest is create a mini model that's as close to an official mini model as you can get. Imagine your set being designed and sold by LEGO.
-
Back in the days, the sets contained a lot less parts than the recent ones. But according to my own rules; this would quality for entry To make a comparison; this was the flagship in 1984. 347 parts! And this was the mini set (no pneumatics):
-
Because we are looking for an official Mini model and none of these ever have pneumatics. That's why I disallowed PF and other electronics. So in all fairness; I should indeed have disallowed Pneumatics, but I didn't The Mini sets look like this and normally they contain around 150 parts. I have increased the part limit a bit, but this is still the kind of entry I was expecting. Or something like this: Or this:
-
Okay, so recap. Cutting tubes is allowed Official available lengths only (so it reflects the actual available tubes, see bricklink) Every tube counts as a single part, so 10 tubes is 10 parts Something like this? Or should we just ignore the available lenghts rules and allow every length. Agreed, I shouldn't have allowed Pneumatics for the mini contest. But since I already allowed it, we need to work this out.
-
I tend to agree with you, but it can be interpreted in multiple ways. If TLG provides a single tube to be cut....it's a single part in the inventory. So we need to find a consensus on this matter. I can vaguely remember cutting tubes in an official set.
-
I would love to see what you've come up with. You can create another topic and we'll discuss it over there
-
If others agree to this I am willing to let it go. My point was that the model could be made without cutting things, but pneumatic tubes could be an exception. And all tubes together count as a single part or every tube is a part?

[MINI] 8852 Robot
Jim replied to barman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
By all means....make this one a full version with more than 200 parts Always love your transforming models. I'm pretty sure you can think of something else for the MINI contest. -
The other day I was thinking about a full fledged PF remote control for Technic and possibly for Trains. Something like two PF remotes joined together, but with a proportional controller, a (return to center) steering wheel and maybe some on/off buttons instead of levers. Would be a nice addition to the current PF components. Still need to test the train controller. Hope I don't forget it tonight
