Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I kind of regret changing the total points to 20, but there's nothing I can do about it anymore. At the end of the day, the best model(s) will probably win, but I agree it's not voting in optima forma. I am really stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the best voting scheme. One moment I like distributing 10 points, but the other moment I think Formula one style is better, because you really need to make a decision. -

I agree (and I didn't forsee this coming) that there's too much difference between 10 points and 1 point. It's useless to give an entry 1 point. It doesn't mean anything more than "I liked your entry, but not so much". Therefor it's probably better to stick to 10 points with 5 max per entry. Or use the old style Formula One voting system. The latter has the disadvantage that you can't judge two entries equally.....which can be considered realistic, since most contest don't allow for equal judging. -
Which RPG's do you like? For me it's: Gaming (XBox, PS, Nintendo) Software Development (Websites, Games, etc) LEGO (Technic, Mindstorms) Organizing Eurobricks contests Soccer Tennis Going out with friends

No worries, they will be rejected by my voting software, unless a member has specific permission (whitelisted).

That's exactly how I feel about it. You have more freedom to equally grade one or more entries. -
Because I thought it would be a nice rule If you don't agree, feel free to discuss it in the Future Contest setup topic: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87063

Formula One style will indeed make the competition closer. I am tempted to try this sometimes. Maybe we could vote again for the Mini Contest and see what happens to the results. The problem with F1 voting style is you can't evenly distribute some points. -

I almost missed this work of art. This could fit in the fictional Model Team Expert series -
Agreed! And moved.

It's getting pretty clear what you guys prefer. Luckily for me this pretty much reflects the way we are running contests right now. I already planned on reducing the building time to 6 weeks for next contest. The only thing which isn't entirely clear yet is whether we need to provide 10 or 20 points to distribute. In retrospect (Mini Build Contest) I think 10 points will suffice. -
The combined image is not supposed to be used as a voting source. It's just a compilation reference image. I will remove it from the voting topic. Don't worry about the spaces etc. I have made sure my software does a decent job Edit: Removed the compilation image, to avoid further confusion. People need to scroll through the entry topic. That's why I let you create a nice promotional image and give a short description of the features. Thinking that people won't take the time to look at all the entries is a rather strange assumption (imho).

Recently we had a theme month, much like that. I was JFAIR, JanuAIRy FebruAIRy. Build something AIR themed in January or February. Although people liked the theme period, I think there need to be some limits and rules etc. It was a bit too "noncommittal". For your information; I am planning to always have a running contest, with or without prizes. So "build a robot arm" can be a contest instead of a theme period. But if you all like monthly build themes, we can obviously introduce them. -

Tell me all about it. If it weren't we would have won this year (not that I really care) Thanks everyone for taking the time to cast your votes. Interesting to see the outcome of this poll. Much like in a typical democracy I will be very interested in your opinion, and then do something completely different Just kidding. A wiseman once said; the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one! So the next contest will most likely reflect the opinion of the majority. -
The Technic Mini Build Contest has come to an end. Take your time enjoying the 57 awesome entries and be so kind to cast your vote in the Contest Voting Topic.

I have added a poll to this topic. Would you be so kind to fill it out. Suggestions and comments can be posted in this topic as well. -
The voting topic is open!!! Thanks for the image Allan! I have included the smaller version in the first post. It's clickable for the hi-res version. Maybe next time we can add a column (5 instead of 4) so it won't be so long. It's a bit long for a frontpage post

Typo fixed! I can include the picture in the voting thread. If Allan manages to update the picture, I will update it too. Since you are contributing to this forum and not just joined to vote, I hereby whitelist you to cast votes

These prizes are provided by LEGO so we are limited by three prizes per contest. And I do like the analogy of Gold, Silver and Bronze. What we can do is add the Top 5 to the Hall of Fame, but that's about it. No, the voting is always public in our Technic Contests. I don't think there's need for voting privately. You did get your 20 points
