EV3 Expansion with Technic
Jim replied to mvshabeer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Definitely true! I second this. -
A small update regarding the use of Pneumatics. Can you cut the tubes and are two tubes counted as two parts or a single part? Count like you would count the parts in an official set. If a set uses two tubes, it's two tubes, not one. These two rules are important: Ropes/Strings, rubber bands and pneumatic tubing need to be official LEGO parts. Decals (stickers) will be allowed if you've made them yourself, but no cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Basically it says NO cutting tubes. However, I will allow you to cut your own tubes and make two 16L out of a 32L tube. I'm fine with that, as long as the resulting length reflects the length of an official LEGO part. Imagine someone should be able to build your set with official LEGO parts without using a knife or saw

[MINI] 8852 Robot
Jim replied to barman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sweet! I have always been intrigued by this set, but I never owned it. Looking forward to it's revival and I would be amazed if you can fit it in an actual mini model for the contest! -
EV3 Expansion with Technic
Jim replied to mvshabeer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Shabeer, Welcome to EB! Like mentioned by Weavil, it all depends on what you want to accomplish. Getting the 42009 crane to expand your (part) collection is a great way to start. However, it might not fit your needs when it comes to making certain robots. But since it has 2600 parts, it will get you started. You can also think about ordering new parts via Bricklink. That's one of the best ways, if you know which parts you need. You might not have a clue to what you actually need. Another approach would be to look at the inventory of the EV3 expansion kit and order the parts you need via Bricklink. -
Smit Cheetah ASD Tug 3213
Jim replied to Edwin Korstanje's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Took some time, but I have frontpaged this wonderful model -
Famous Dutch ship builder Edwin Korstanje (VFracingteam) has been building smaller scale ships (than we are used to) on commission lately. That got him inspired to make a smaller version of the Smit Cheetah for himself....and for us to enjoy! Dock your ship in the Technic Harbor and prepare to be amazed!

[MINI] WIP of my entry
Jim replied to legomuppet9's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Agreed! Again a perfect example of what we are looking for in this contest -
There's nothing confusing about the rules. People just tend to make things more complicated than necessary "Build something with no more than 200 official Lego parts" is actually all you need to know.

The previous contests also had a duration of around 7 weeks. It might be a bit too long for a small contest like this, but in general contestants like the extra time.

[MINI] Grand Prix Racer
Jim replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is the kind of entry I was hoping to see. Well done -
LA's count as a Exactly! When you are in doubt, just check Bricklink: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=92693c01

Nope, no rules. All entries will be judged. Just make sure your entry is better than the others

[MINI] Lawn and garden tractor
Jim replied to Pluto_MkII's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Pluto, Welcome to EB! Nice work so far. Looking forward to seeing your real build. -
No problem. I would like a topic for each model, so we can discuss things. But you can create it just before closing date, if you don't want to expose your entry. A pullback motor usually does something, which is considered a function. Steering is a function as well. Just look at some of the official Technic mini models to see what functions they have.

I will provide the pictures, but I had already taken these. Will make new ones and lookup the number of pages

We're looking for "as official as it can get". Imagine your set being sold as official set.

[MINI] lawn mower WIP
Jim replied to dirty bob 456's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is exactly what we're looking for! Keep up the good work -
Looking at this entry I probably need to alter the rules: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=96449 This is not what we're looking for. It needs to be a TECHNIC mini model. You can use some "normal" Lego parts for decoration, but we don't want a 95% brickbuilt model. So I'm afraid I will have to change Model Team to: NO! Otherwise it might be too confusing. I buy Mini sets, because they are cheap and fun to build. But let's not start that discussion here. This is a mini contest. Later this year we will have a big contest with unlimited parts and stuff.
