42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
We are getting the BWE and we will be reviewing it. This time you will get a surprise reviewer You can still pose your questions here. Sariel will be reviewing all the 2H sets too. -
42054 - Claas Xerion 5000 Trac VC
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have zero experience with Truck Trial, so how would I go about to test the traction? Simply push the model and make a guestimate when the tires slip? Or is there another clever way of doing that? -

I will get it asap, but I am not sure when the review can be published. These set don't seem to have an emargo date, which would mean I can publish when ready. I'll keep you guys posted. -

Okay, I think it's pretty safe to say that we will be getting the 2H sets for review, and I happen to be the one reviewing this unique set. So, do you have any questions which you like me to address? -

Diary of making a LEGO Humanoid
Jim replied to Burf2000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hehe. No they are indeed meant to counter balance the robot's arms. Otherwise too much force will be applied to the motors. They won't be able to lift the arms. -

Isn't the position of the counter balance relevant to its function -
[REVIEW] 42056 - Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
These renders are awesome! I really like the solution for the wheel arches and I love the different color schemes! Well done -
Actually, I have contacted TLG about this matter. And the answer is simple; they like to see non-existing models, but they are perfectly cool with having existing models too. The existing models might score less when it comes to originality, but they probably score high when it comes to brand recognition. So, we will judge accordingly!

I kind of compare it with EB contest, which I shouldn't. Still, I am not sure about people entering with a pre-made 911 or even with a newly-built 919 Hybrid (which on itself is a great MOC). For me the contest is about creating your dream Porsche, which I associate with a non-existent model. But when you interpret "your dream Porsche" correctly, it can of course be an existing one. Although I would definitely favor a new concept.

Porsche Pricing & Availability
Jim replied to nerdsforprez's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Depends on your goal. Assuming you will keep it MISB to sell it; you can probably make some money. You won't be the only one with this plan though. Don't think Millennium Falcon like scenarios. -
Recently we have seen quite a few PF Controllers popping up. Some more interesting than others. This project was launched on Kickstarter recently and I think it's worth sharing. Only 25 days left, so make sure to check it out soon. More information can be found in the Technic Forum.

Oustanding work. Lots of functions in such a small set. And I am (also) amazed by the simplicity and cleverness of the scanner. I love mechanisms where rotational movement is converted into lineair motion.

[C-MODEL] 42048 - Formula 1
Jim replied to jyd80's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice work! The wheels are a bit small, but that's the consequence of building a C-model You have captured the shape of an F1 car very well -
Generic Contest Discussion
Jim replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I hereby confirm that we will wait (more or less) till the other contest is over. Maybe there will be a week overlap or something, but let's wait a bit. I have two other themes in mind, but I PROMISE to do a Pneumatic contest one day. -

This would fit better in Buying and Selling (but you need 100 posts, I know). Regarding your matter; most of sellers ship within a day or two after payment. There can always be a reason they are shipping a bit later. And if you also choose Economy shipping, it can happen that it takes two weeks. Like Milan said; check the seller (store terms, feedback, etc). For what it's worth; when a shipment takes two weeks to reach me, I still leave positive feedback, but I might choose another seller next time.
