No better way to introduce yourself than with some MOCs! It's a pity you won't finish them, they have a lot of potential. Since none of these are conventional designs so to speak, I'm wondering if there's any backstory. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot for this tutorial Dreamweb! The pictures and explanations were excellent. I'm sure I'll be able to follow it perfectly once I screw up the courage to take apart my hull pieces - despite your reassurances I'm still afraid to do it. This will be very useful in the future. I've always thought that the white hull of the Armada Flagship would be perfect for many ships (like the HMS Beagle) if not for that blue. Now thanks to you we can take them apart. Great job!

Great ship! Especially considering that it's his first. I like the rigging the most, she looks beautiful under full sail (although I think their widths are a little small). I would've preferred dark blue as in the title pic, but bright looks pretty good as well. It's refreshing after seeing a lot of the classic red/yellow stripes. Thanks for posting!

Many thanks for the detailed explanation Admiral Croissant, I will remember that for my next ship. Thanks! I hope to build her IRL too, at 2000 pieces the price should be manageable off Bricklink - I just need to cure my addiction to TLG sets first. I agree with you on many counts about the ship. In general I find LDD to be much more useful for blocking out rough shapes and designs rather than the intricate detailwork. Some "standard" decorations are not even possible in LDD due to how they rendered the brick - for example putting the "dragon wings" into headlight bricks like on the Vesta is not possible. If you look closely at the LDD file, you will see I have built in the necessary bricks to tie in some basic string rigging such as the ladders up to the crows nest. However this is not possible to do in LDD as well. Bring back the Superbe! What's her current status? She was looking great when you before you took her apart and I've been waiting for an update since!

I don't remember if I've said it before, but many thanks for your tutorials Horry, they're always very informative and interesting (especially with those cross-section MOCS). I would be very interested in a tutorial on assorted merchant ships - East Indiamen, fluyts, hoys, etc. Would you be agreeable to us writing some related tutorials ourselves?

Congrats ZCerberus and TalonCard, I'm sure you'll do a great job!

Just read through the whole topic and I must say I love 'em all! I like the open back concept, they all look very playable and the interiors are excellent. The blue/tan country house is my favorite as well. Any chance for a street shot? Can't wait to see more!

Love it! Using the Viking hulls upside-down is brilliant, and the greebling round back is excellent as well. I like Horry's suggestion Vulture, it fits the sharply curved ends of your ship. Why do you have orcs in your crew? Any backstory? Only advice I have for you is to take more pictures.

Starting small, I promise I'll do bigger ones eventually. 6057 - Sea Serpent - Theme: Castle LXF Errors: - Mast piece does not exist in LDD, have built custom replacement. - Sail and string also does not exist. - Shield printing replaced with color of plastic. Head printing replaced with classic smile. - LDD doesn't allow the dragon wings and body (on figurehead) to attach to the central brick, I've put them right next to where they should be.

Hey, look! No hands! Looks great so far, love the turret. Figs are excellent as well, the Harry Potter torsos work really well with steampunk. Now show us the whole thing! Pweez?

Wow. First you see the 64 Royalists, then the rest stretching into the distance! Any updates on the fort?

Thanks guys. Admiral Croissant, I agree with most of your suggestions and I'll fix them ASAP. However I don't understand the following: So I should lower all of the yards to the nearest crows nest? Then do I have to create another crows nest for the bottom yard, or does that one move up? And does the second - to - bottom one move up or down? And would it be unrealistic to add another crows nest for the top yard? Sorry to barrage you with questions, but I'm really confused, I had no idea they even moved. And just to clarify, I won't be building this IRL any time soon, this will stay an LDD model.

This model by Myles has the hull pieces in it, just paint 'em black. Good luck with it, I started it yesterday and got extremely confused and frustrated.

Done for my 200th post! Check first post for pictures. Tell me what you think.

Looks pretty good so far. I do have a few suggestions. Even if you're not trying to replicate a specific ship, they all had the same basic characteristics. I'm no expert either but my main suggestions here are to condense the stern gallery and change the red bricks below cabin level to black or brown, usually brighter colors like red would be used in the gundeck stripe. If you're planning to make a two decker you'll probably need to increase the length to avoid stubbiness. Just some suggestions. Welcome back to the hobby, enjoy your first ship, and I can't wait to see it in brick. Superkalle made one here.

Looking great! A huge improvement over the first post. I like the long headrails, even if they're not entirely realistic they give the ship a very sleek look. And the colorscheme matches the figurehead perfectly. The only thing I don't quite like is the stern, I think it's too bulky and round but I'm not sure. I'll leave that to the masters. Keep it up!

Wow. Very intriguing backstory and even better MOC! I love the way the temple is integrated into the rock work, and the lighted pool looks great in the dark shots. I hate to compare something this awesome to TCW, but it reminds me of the scene where the Zillo Beast is being transferred to the lab. Love it.

A Guide to building a Medieval Village
Skipper replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for doing this, it's an excellent tutorial and I can't wait to see the next installment. I've always loved your builds but trying out the techniques last night increased my admiration tenfold, I never realized just how clever and complex it was. Maybe the tutorial thread should be indexed like the CGH ship one? -
Just a couple posts later and this could've been the 1000th post follow-up to the 500th post creation. Amazing how much of a difference tiles make, it looked good already but now it looks very clean and finished. Great update! Is that pizza art official or custom? It looks like an abstract pizza. Or Pacman. Hope to see your other buildings soon!

Supported. We've been missing a good, realistic catapult in the Castle theme for ages! The functionality video was great, I'm impressed. Hope this gets produced, I could really use this. Only thing is, I didn't read your description before replying to the short questionnaire so I said I would pay 25 USD for 120 parts. Oops. Blame me. Best of luck!

Could you put some pictures in the first post so it's easier to compare? Aesthetically, the Bounty has the advantage of newer pieces and colors, which are most apparent on the stern - the combination of dark red and pearl gold is luscious. However her newness has also hurt her - with an exposed hull and pieces that do the work of many (such as the railings in front, curve pieces up to the cabin, etc. ) she looks very <insert that tiresome argument>. But that horse is already dead so I won't beat it any more. My opinion of the RBR has changed a lot since reading Brickverson's review. Some of the designs that I once thought were ugly are actually quite clever, such as the stern skull and cabin side windows. The sails are great as well, the ripped effect is swell and the skull and crossbones much more fearsome than the Bounty's. However many sections are a mishmash of parts that doesn't deserve to be the last big classic pirate ship. In a battle, I think it would just come down to who was the better captain - they're pretty evenly matched in manpower and broadside. In the end I voted for the Red Beard Runner, but it was a pretty close match because neither particularly stands out to me.
