Good luck with your mega project! She's looking great already. I'm very interested to see how your technique transitions to brick as well as your solution for the bow. I envy you for visiting the Victory, I visited England a couple years ago and for some reason didn't visit her. I was more of a castle nut back then. Keep it up!

I voted for the Black Pearl. It's the iconic ship of the movies, so of the two you pretty much have to get it. IMO, the aesthetics (structural and designwise) of the Revenge are just so different from the Flagship and Bounty that they'd clash together, whereas the Pearl shares its boxy cabin design and overall solid structure with the non-licensed ships. Also I agree with Prateek in that the bones stand out too much on the Revenge, not to mention do not match the source, as far as I can tell from never having seen the movie. Neither are particularly stunning though, so were I in your position I would avoid both completely and go for a classic set. But that's just me.

Thanks for linking the review Dreamweb (and of course, thanks to the reviewer)! It looks much better now, very solid design and amazing minifigs. However, I still don't think I'll be getting it. It's just missing the Black Pearl vibe for me, it looks like a generic black ship. That's something I'd like to have a go at creating, but I need more reference first. Do you have more pics?

Thanks everyone! I just copied them off a BSB in the LDD index, I have no idea how that member got them. You can just get them off of mine if you can't find it, I posted the LXF somewhere in here. Thanks! I knew I forgot something. That salute's a bit close for comfort eh? Very interesting comparison, I like your ship! I can see what you were saying about improving the shape by brickbuilding a hull. The overall shape of yours is much better, although the slope is a bit pixellated. Fair winds and following seas Maidstone! Thanks for commenting and fixing the title Admiral, I will change the capstan with the next update. Also, as you've probably noticed most of the deck details are inspired by yours and Perfectionist's ships, so a big thank you for those. Thanks! Good luck with yours, looking forward to seeing it. What's her allegiance?

Looking good, she's progressing nicely! I like the choice of ship, I've always thought the United States frigates to be beautiful ships (and I live close to this one!). I like the tumblehome technique and the storage hold looks slick. Now for the advice. I do think it's worth the time to add more hull sections, one of the (few ) benefits about working in LDD is that you don't have to wait for parts or anything - just select and drag. You could probably do it in a couple minutes. I would also suggest adding a curve along the gundeck as Admiral Croissant suggested and changing the cannon ports to black. Keep it !

I like the second one. First looks a bit top heavy, and the arms of the third are IMO too big. Looking forward to more updates!

Two stunning MOCs in two days! You're on a roll. Maybe it's not entirely true to the movie, but I like your interpretation. It has a very LEGO feel, and I love that stern pic. Just to let you know, it's Elizabeth Swann, not Maria. Great work!

Welcome to Eurobricks (and back to the hobby)! Nice ship, we don't see enough merchant ships around here and I'm always a fan of the classic style. I like the colorscheme, although I don't think the yellow figurehead fits the brown/blue. As for MOCcing, I'm not an expert but I say just keep doing it. I'm currently on my 6th try of the same ship, I think it's gotten better and hopefully this one will be completed.

Hmm, seems I commented too early. I thought you were done with the pictures. As a fort I like the backside more, it's much more solid. Put a row of cannons in the upper ramparts and it'd be quite fearsome. And something I didn't notice last time, the design of the beacon is awesome.
-
Beautiful fort! Like others have said, it's the details that make this great. I like the rockwork and interiors especially. Does the cannon spin when you turn the cross on the side of the base, or is that just for decoration? Great job.
-
Great job! I've always loved the playability and interiors of your ships, and this one does not disappoint. M. Veronique's cabin is my favorite, her collection of treasures from around the world is fascinating. Keep it up!

Finished the other side, and added a figurehead, headrails, removable top deck, and smaller caliber cannons up top. The structure of the hull part of this MOC is now for the most part finished, just need to embellish the stern. The gundeck curve is the same, I spent maybe an hour today trying out different variations and this still seemed the best so I copied it to the other side. Now I just need to decide whether to use TLG or custom masts. LXF HERE Side: Taller by 1 plate. Hull: Top Deck: Cannons are a spinoff of the ones in the HMS Prince of Wales. Figurehead: Surprise is on our side this time eh? Broadside!: Hope you enjoyed!

Thanks for the review! I don't think I'll get this set, it's a great model (especially the interior) but there's so many others on the list. "Questionable green plant."

New Lego 10223 Kingdoms Joust Exclusive
Skipper replied to I Scream Clone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Baguettes!! Wow. Not what I was expecting but awesome in a whole other way. Definitely a must-buy for me. So I take it this does not signify the end of the Kingdoms theme? -
Very nice MOC, it's a great representation of an exotic bazaar and the scene you've chosen is very interesting. I'm impressed by the number of (purist!) printed pieces you own, they fit the MOC very well.

Thanks everyone! Your comments are a great motivation. Just to clarify, I'm not going for total historical accuracy here, I just want my ship to look somewhat realistic. My obsession with ship ratings is due entirely to a desire to compare mine to others in this forum. I actually rather like the stern as - is, obviously it needs some ornaments but I thing the shape is pleasing, even if it's not true those of real frigates. I will however change the curve of the gundeck as you suggested Kurigan. I started reading M&C today and am thoroughly enjoying it, I had no idea it was a book series. Becker, I've uploaded the LXF here, should be public in a couple days. In the meantime here's a pic of the tumblehome technique, as it's probably one of the more complicated parts of the build. Good luck with yours, can't wait to see it! And Blackmoor, unfortunately I will not be building with the holy ABS any time soon, I'm still schooling and thus can't order bricks whenever I fell like it. Thanks again everyone, enjoy the weekend.

Well, I'm very interested and fit most of the requirements and "advantages," but am under the age requirement by a year. WIll there be future opportunities/am I close enough?

Personally I don't think it's that bad. However I understand the criticism, the slope should be much more gradual. If you use prefabs for the prow and middle section, an entirely brickbuilt solution to the back would look incongruous. The following are a few solutions I've noticed. Pics are links to their threads. Spanish Sloop of War by Sebeus Iniwum: As the new hulls come in two parts Sebeus has only used the bottom. This is good for small ships, and with the prefabs here really only forming the base the strange shape isn't noticable. What about larger ships? Spanish Imperial Galleon by Bonaparte and CGH: Here we have again the top part of the hull removed and instead brickbuilt, which solves the problem. Hope that helps. I'm building a ship (link in my sig) right now on the new prefabs, and it honestly doesn't bother me much.

Wow. That ship is huge! I didn't grasp the scale at all until I realized what Star Destroyer you were talking about. Just took a look through your gallery, suffice to say I'm very impressed. I like the feeling of the ships very much, for me they are for some reason very reminiscent of WWII battleships. Keep it up!

The guns were added on impulse, I won't be building with them there. Broadside's looking pretty dangerous. I'm not an expert on ship ratings/classes but I don't think this is a Leda (nominally 38 guns) any more, with a capacity for 48 guns. So what is it?

LDD 8C Overall I'm pretty happy with how she turned out, the sails among other things are not exactly as I would have done in real life, but I can deal with it. Just over 2300 bricks, maybe the next D2C eh? Many of the techniques were copied from others, of the top of my head Perfectionist and Admiral Croissant for the deck details and lanterns, and Aalak for the stern. Thanks guys. LXF HERE First some overall shots: The deck details: The stern and figurehead: Hello! After re-watching Master and Commander this past weekend, I was inspired to make a frigate. As usual I don't have the needed parts so this is again in LDD. You will notice one side has not yet been built, this is because I am not yet sure about the line. Any suggestions from the "professionals" on that would be great. On to the pics! Side: This is the curve I was talking about. Thoughts? Top deck isn't built yet. Overhead: This is the ugliest view, there is virtually no horizontal curve. I plan to keep it this way though, it's much simpler to construct, as angles and fiddly bits in LDD well . . . Prow: Any ideas for a figurehead? Hope you enjoyed, C&C welcome. ~Skipper

Nice MOD's! I especially like the cannon in the skull's mouth, it's a much more natural extension than the original tongue (who puts tongues in a skull and crossbones)? ' Could you add a picture to the review of the inside of the cabin so that we can compare the versions better? Depending on how picky you are, but the Renegade Runner sails are black/white while those in the RBR are grey/white. In addition the RBR has a comical ripped and cannonball shot look, in contrast to the RR's pristine sails. It could work though.

Does anyone know if a background styled after those used in the classic pirates sets has ever been made? With the sky, islands, etc. If so please post it below. Sorry for necroing such an old thread, I wanted it for some WIP reviews and figured this was the best place. Thanks!

Great comic and brilliant follow - up to the first The0! That lamp is genius, you really deserve your title!
