  1. It was funny, yet if I was there I'd be so annoyed. Normally I try to chat it up with the employees/other adult fans, but normally I'm on a time crunch, so counting each individual piece wouldn't be worthwhile. And the fact he opened the box. Some people buy sets to remain closed! I realize, they were told they were on a tv show afterwards, but still it would have been frustrating at the time. This coming from a stick in the mud
  2. To the above, most people don't consider it pay off the line. And that is because it isn't truly. It was designed by a fan and was under the design by me program which has since been disbanded. But it was designed by an amateur and that is why it looks so amateur and not as polished as the rest of the line. Another reason why I wouldn't care to own it. Now the fact it is included in the mini modular line changes things, but most of my official modular don't look like they should, so not a huge deal to me.
  3. I have very little interest in building MS, yet after these other projects, I will probably succumb to that as well. With that said, I planned on tinkering with those curved fence pieces. It would blend with the GE and TH in terms of part usage. It'd be interesting to see what it would actually look like though. But in reality, I don't particularly care for that style of building with the two front balconies. I like the roof shape and the side balcony, but the other two front balconies seem pointless to me. Plus with the stairwell in the interior being in the middle, that limits the use of the actual building. Thus another reason why I plan on modifying it extensively (if I do indeed build it).
  4. Well that's why they are alternate pieces. Essentially the same design, yet more structurally sound (at least in LEGO's eyes). As far as replacement parts, I guess the point is that you may never have 100% original parts in any set. I think the same thing happened with the Star Wars Death Star. It was in production so long, some of the figures faces in the later production runs had pupils, while the early releases only had the black eyes (I think, I don't own it, but I read something about it). Just subtle changes to existing sets depending on current stock and if they change any molds and have to do another production run. I honestly have never noticed if I have a new or old mold, with the exception of some of the new 2014 molds of the 2x2 round tile with bottom hole instead of X and 1x1 jumper plate with central stud underneath to offset things. Those are really the only times I pay attention to mold changes. (as in, if it will change how the piece functions)
  5. ^I agree. That is one of the first things I did was change all of the windows to actual windows. As far as PDF, yes, LEGO has terrible scans of those pictures. I never use LEGO's website for instructions. I actually use this page. The scans are better for sure. Plus, you can open each page individually if interested. EDIT: As far as I know, returns are not allowed because they are a custom order, just like Sin said. They are packed and shipped from their warehouse. I believe hand picked at that, so it is time consuming enough for them, let alone allow returns. It doesn't matter if you order from the original inventory. If the mold is replaced with a new version, it will still come up as an "alternate" in the inventory. Doesn't the new ski mold pop up in the CC inventory too (even though it is completely different!)? I do believe with the new blue 1x8 arch is a little different. I haven't attempted putting the modified curved bricks on underneath it yet, but they usually replace things over time to make them more structurally sound or functional in system. In all seriousness, for a set from 2007, if you want the original pieces, you will have to order from bricklink at high aftermarket prices to guarantee you get the pieces that came with the set. Most pieces that old (almost 7 years now) would have shifted molds I'm sure. Just keep that in mind. Since I don't mind making changes to official sets, none of this has bothered me so far, unless a new mold changes the functionality of the actual piece (like the flower stem in GE having/not having a hold).
  6. ^That's very interesting! I wonder how many people received those fence pieces and who really noticed. I kind of like the instruction version better. Not as blocky. But I guess the new version might be more functional with studs across the top. I assume they must have misprinted the instructions for the 1x1 brick since none were missing at the end of the build. The inventory is right, just the part call out is off. I have to get PC still before I get this, but I can't wait to pick this up. Very neat in person!
  7. This is awesome! I am impressed. I love the snow scaping. The stone pathway looks really realistic too. The roof is inspiring. I'd love to see more. It really makes me wish I had more time to participate in the guild.
  8. That makes sense. LEGO could be cheap if it weren't for shipping!
  9. Thank you so much for this raffle. I didn't check the mail until last night and saw something from another country that sounded like LEGO. I completely spaced on what it could be! I love receiving mail from other countries. Very neat box, although it did get crushed in the mail. Again, thank you! Can't wait to see what happens next year! You bring joy to all us AFOLs.
  10. Is it on the retiring soon page? Depending on how many they have left in production or in stock at their warehouse, that could give some indication to how much longer it has. Although even if it is or isn't on the list, it could still sell out quickly. I'd think they only kept FB around do long because of that error they had with the missing bag. So I wouldn't expect the rest to last as long as that, unless they are selling so incredibly well they can have that many in production at the same time. PR, PC, TH, PS, and GE...That's a lot at once, when they used to only have three out at a time.
  11. That looks really neat! I actually really like the gas price sign. It may be flimsy, but I think any thicker wouldn't look right. The overall design is neat. The bus stop works well. I'm not sold on the tree design. seems too thick for how sparse the leaves are. Also, did you say $150???? If it is what you love great, but that's a lot of $
  12. They had that update and added some new parts, but also new higher price. Who knows what it is. I'd imagine shipping companies for sure. That's crazy that they were faded with some sunlight damage already. That is a fairly new set. But I like the price of the 1x2 groove brick in sand blue vs sand green.
  13. I am going to bide my time on the blue bows. So many other pieces have come back into production, so I'm sure those will eventually. Although since I am doing a sand blue grocer instead, I will probably do a different color bow. I already planned on doing these, but I like seeing updates from other builders. I am mainly using pieces from my other sets, so I haven't really put in any order for the actual buildings, but I do have quite a bit of the pieces already. The biggest task had been what do I have and where is it. So I printed off the inventory and started sorting and seeing what modifications I wanted to make.It has been fun. But I didn't have a lot of time to deal with it do it takes longer than it should. Money isn't as big of an issue now as it was earlier. But part of that is my cheap nature. As stated before I also want to modify cc into a different style L shaped corner, but lately I've been wanting to modify it again into a straight non corner building. I like the original, but I like being different. Then a part of me thinks I should just do the original since that is the iconic piece. But I'm sure I will modify it somehow. I already have the base L shaped floor done, so I'll have to disassemble it to change it. But I would have never bought one for the ridiculous prices they are going for, even if money was no object. Plus this adds to the fun of it.
  14. That's awesome seeing it come together. Not buying it as MSRP sucks, but it's nice we can build it in the street market. It did make you appreciate msrp on all retail sets because to build any set via bricklink (even new ones) always come out higher than msrp. I've posted out a lot of sets to my bricklink store so I have seen the numbers. Pretty crazy. They look great all in a row. You definitely need to get the town hall, if not only to not pay above msrp in the future. But the build is kind of neat. The size is ridiculous, but the inside details are neat. The elevator is a nice touch. I think I will modify it too though so it can be better for me. Wodanis - are those the new ski mold? They don't look as bad as I expected. I may look into that since none of the stores that have other pieces I want have the old mold. I considered doing medium blue too, but the regular blue did stand out more. I also considered dark red as an option. This thread did inspire me to order some parts to get to completing my sets.
  15. That's awesome. I haven't purchased any lego yet since I was waiting for double points or the next exclusive figure, so this works out perfectly for me. Come March I will have some nice purchases though. I'm not as excited about the May the fourth figure so I may double up on orders to get two of this. I try to get two of all exclusives so I can keep one sealed and open one.
  16. Congrats! That's awesome seeing all of those pieces. I can't wait to see pictures. Although I'm a bit sad. This was one of the few topics that kept me excited to read updates and now everyone is finishing their versions... My problem is I have too many projects at one time. I'm also building another pet shop in another color and it will either be a toy store or a bakery. So trying to build official sets with my mods and some MOCs based on official sets takes up a lot of time.
  17. Yes, Elementary. Lucy Liu is Watson. I haven't seen it, but haven't heard too much either. But Sherlock is a good watch. Although they could have had better casting for Moriarty. The second movie did a good job for him. But I don't see that becoming a set, unfortunately. But I'd gladly take one from the books too. I love that time period and would love to build some MOCs in it.
  18. Yes, it has been down for the last few days (at least whenever I've tried it). They are transitioning to a new website and the newsfeed did have multiple posts about server being down. So I guess it just hasn't been fixed yet.
  19. I had never heard of that building or fountain before, but this looks beautiful! I will definitely pick this up sometime in the future.
  20. I think the thing is whether you are obsessed or casual, just take it in stride. No one really makes negative comments to me (they might behind my back, that I do not know), but they always ask me or direct me to a page that involves LEGO, just because it is about LEGO. I love LEGO and it is basically my only hobby, but I don't love ALL things LEGO. Just interesting to observe.
  21. ^But how long ago was that? They don't do 1x1 round plates as sprues anymore, meaning their new molds (after they would have retired the other) do one part per mold. Unless they are on a sprue, which anymore is usually just the flower petals and the tool wheel, which they changed that again so I don't think the new one has a sprue.
  22. That Homer is awesome! I wasn't excited for the CMF series, but if they can look like him instead of the house versions, then I will definitely pick some up. That donut and the remote are great accessories! I figured that is how they would do the donut piece. Makes perfect sense. My only concern is the feel method with all of those bulbous heads.
  23. ^I had a few light/sound sets from long ago. They were neat. I'll have to look for my old pieces to make them work.
  24. I will have to watch the video later. But I am not surprised this passed. I am disappointed in no Oz set then. My daughter would have loved that. I assume too many new molds? Getting all four Ghostbusters will be neat though. I never suspected the building to be included, so I'm not sure why so many people thought that. The Ecto-1 is all that is really needed. The building is neat, but nothing extraordinary in terms of modular style. Definite buy!
