  1. Very neat. Although I feel sorry for most of those people on those rides...I'd be sick in no time! Clever ideas all around. I really like the pully system for the roller coaster, although I can't quite make out how it was done. I gave thought to an amusement park/fair MOC, but then Friends came out with a series, and now it just seems like I'd be copying them. Oh well, it wasn't a priority and you really need moving parts to make it impressive for LEGO conventions. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Technically, no one knows. You can assume the order, but it all depends on how well it sells to determine how many production runs they do and as far as I know, most of the general public doesn't have that information. But to make a safe guess, it is easiest to say PR and PC will go before BB and DO.
  3. Looks great! You captured the actual building quite well I'd say. That sort of building would work well for a train layout my LUG is doing. I should look into something inspiring like that for the future. Keep up the good work.
  4. I have wanted to create something using only the bricks in the actual set, but it is near impossible. Now the builds have multiple colors/facades, so there is never enough of one color or detail to create a whole new building. It will always have to be multiple tiny buildings. Just look at Detective Office and Brick Bank. Look at the variety in colors involved. It looks great as the official set, but looks very incoherent if you try to change that. The older modulars had more substantial builds so you could create other things out of them without as much effort.
  5. It looks great. The color scheme, the shaping..it all works. However, it would be really neat to have it actually open at that scale. Maybe that will be something I should work on. I hadn't thought of doing a carriage outside of the Winter Village line. But this makes sense for Town Hall/Assembly Square considering the wedding theme. Thanks for the inspiration. Also, what head is the coachman?
  6. I agree. The exterior looks okay in terms of architectural style, but there are so many negatives elsewhere in the set. Whether or not it IS a modular building, that doesn't matter to me. I won't own it, so I will be incomplete. The curved staircase is the best part. I would do away with the windows and modify quite a few things. I've considered MOC/MODing it, but it ends up being too different, so it seems silly, so then I quit.
  7. It also depends on where they ship from. I don't remember where exactly, but I recall certain orders come from different areas. So I'm sure that adds to the time, if it has to cross the pond especially.
  8. Something that is funny, that post of mine from 2013 I sounded like an ***hole...yikes :) Either way, it is true. This topic comes up quite often. Understandably, but frequent. With that said, when bricklinking a building vs owning the official version, you have to ask yourself, how are you going to use it? This is something I couldn't wrap my head around early on. I wanted the exact copy at first. Then I started fiddling around and built a sand blue GG a few years ago. I also modified it some since I might as well since I am already bricklinking it. I started and stopped CC multiple times because I wasn't in love with it. Then I started thinking, how do I use them? I have them displayed on a shelf. Rarely I will take one down and my daughter will play with it, but usually they just sit there. Meaning, if I want to recreate something, I might as well just make sure the front facade looks similar enough to the original and leave the rest however I can make it work cheaply enough. You really only see the facade if you display them. Sometimes the sides depending on how it is positioned in the shelf, so the sides potentially can be any color. The back wall can be whatever color. Who needs windows on the back? Just make sure the front looks good, and you will likely come out way ahead since most people own some bricks to make do. But the reverse can be true too. Do you want the official version, then follow the suggestions above and find safe alternatives, buy used (in good condition), etc. Good luck!
  9. Fun idea. I love classic castle builds. I'd like to do more myself. The overall castle works quite well. I really like the wall stonework. But tsk tsk on you for removing those hands to use the chains. Although it looks effective.
  10. After seeing that second picture, I am terrified. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland a little bit. Otherwise, it looks good. I try to avoid the dentist, so I can't attest to its accuracy :). Keep up the good work!
  11. Brilliant! This gives me some ideas for my Wayne Manor I am building. Thanks!
  12. Well done. Overall I like it. There are things I would probably change for my own entry, but I like what I am seeing. Clever use of those chima pieces for the window decoration. I really like the yellow window frame on the main level. The workshop looks well done. The Christmas lights work well on the front even. I like the bed frame in the living quarters. Good luck in the contest.
  13. It looks like it might have little branch arms, so I don't think it is the same mold. They do tend to release new molds with Licensed sets, so it could be all new anyway. I definitely don't want another Milano, but the figures might be decent enough. I will have to wait and see how different they look from the original sets. These may be an easy pass.
  14. This late in the game, I'd recommend not getting into the modulars if you feel you are a completionist. If you want to build some nice sets and don't care about the previous releases, then definitely get into the new modulars. But if you feel you will be dissatisfied by not having a complete collection, it is cost prohibitive to get into it now. Yes, you can make modifications, but you will still spend a lot of money (more than actual modular prices) and they won't be the actual set, therefore you still would have a technically incomplete collection.
  15. Brilliant. Whenever I see Dexter, I think of the Showtime series, not Laboratory. But this perfect. Well captured.
  16. ^Good luck. Read this. It shows a lot of tips on what people have changed...although it is a hefty read.
  17. Good idea. The L shaped building should work well. I had that thought too. I was torn between having zero building there vs a blank wall (depending on width). I am still in progress of my build, so I haven't officially decided what to do. Can't wait to see yours.
  18. My comment was actually a compliment, disguised as an insult. I see that now. Your LEGO creations accurately portray what the actual buildings look like, so you have done a fine job. My response was more of a knock against the actual buildings. Granted, I am American with very little travel experience, so I am not as cultured in European buildings or their meanings, so I do apologize.
  19. Overall it works quite well. It looks very similar to the original building, which it was a well designed looking building (other than the weird reddish brown part). I've thought about making mine stand alone also. Although I think I will change it up a bit of course. Does yours have stairs anywhere? I'll have to look at that other link you put up there to see more. As for the Detective office, I agree about adding in the side area. I have a Corner Deli modular build going that has a little eating area outside. It looks neat enough. It adds something different too. The only downside is the lack of visual space above the eating area since it won't be a full size building then.
  20. I don't like saying negative things, but I was going to comment on how ugly these buildings are...looking at the real thing, then you are accurate. Well done! The building design translates to LEGO okay, but the colors mis-match and patterns stand out too much in LEGO form. Keep up the good work. You have succeeded.
  21. The set doesn't look too bad. I don't normally build the sets though, so this wouldn't be any different. But it looks like it has decent play value for the kids. I definitely want the figures, but like everyone else, the cost will be limiting. I may just look for She-Hulk somewhere in the aftermarket and forget the other 3, unless there is a great sale. But in my experience I have only seen most sets at 20% off at most from Amazon, so is this worth 48$ to me...likely not still. We'll see.
  22. YMMV for sure. One Target in town has the bulk of the sets. They have had them since about a week before Christmas. A different Super Target had the normal 4 sets, but also the CMF. Another Target only had the normal 4 sets released at that time. Now that was prior to Christmas. Looking now, only the one Target still has the bulk of the sets, but the other two are empty as can be. So who knows what/when you'll find things.
  23. I don't have this set, but this is one of my favorite things to do. Re-imagining classic sets that I loved. I've only done it once so far (I still need to get pictures of it), but I plan to do lots more. I think the castle work is great. Definitely looks stony. I tend to be too smooth with my light bley I think, so this works quite well. The red Inn also stands out. The only thing differently I would do is make it more timbered looking with the black like in the original, but otherwise it looks great! Keep up the good work. I will have to look back at this for inspiration in the future.
  24. Yes, both capes will get ruined. But even said, some of the Batman capes will get squished down too depending on what armor he has on. I didn't apply the capes because of the misshapen-ness it gives them after the fact. But then again, I don't plan on reusing the capes on anyone else. I am torn.
  25. Looks good. The pool is definitely my favorite area. I also like the entrance of the Chez Albert downstairs. A lot of hotels have that fancy restaurant attached, so that is a good idea. I can understand the scale because of it. I don't love the themed rooms only because I like realism too much I guess. I also don't love all of the sand green. Having a little bit on the outside looks good, but almost every room has sand green on the main build and it comes off as too much. But I must be the only one to think so since no one else has mentioned it. Oh well. Keep up the good work.
