Minifigures Series 9 Guessing Game
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
While this is true, just think about all of the LEGO sets that didn't have stairs inside. How did they get up to the top floor? TLG may create something like this to allow more pieces people want, even if it isn't accurate. Although, accurately educating children would be good too. As a child, they probably see snow, parkas, and furry creatures and think they all live together. Oh well, if it means we get LEGO penguins, I'm in. -
Review: 10228 Haunted House
TheLegoDr replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
If for whatever reason the HH were to be in line with the other Modulars, I picture it more recessed a little to allow the normal sidewalk, then some front yard. But by doing that the entire building would be so deep it would fall off any counter you display them on! With that said, I don't believe it to fit too well directly with the Modulars due to the size. I could picture it just outside the modulars on a side street like in a lot of smaller towns where it transitions pretty abruptly due to the small size of the area. I'm thinking of my hometown (population about 1,100 people) and how the downtown will have these taller buildings then all of a sudden residential district starts. But I also think the HH could be modified a bit to be an actual Modular instead of an actual house. I plan on doing that, although I like how the house looks on its own. I'll have to wait and see after I get mine for Christmas. -
I just ordered this set from Amazon because of the great sale. I think the set is overpriced, but with the sale it is much more swallow-able. The figures alone will go for much, much more, so I might as well just buy the set while it is on sale. I mostly am buying this for the minifigures, but I may build the set. I know I won't keep it built/displayed since I only do that with my absolute favorite sets and I'm not a SW fanatic like I am for other themes. With that said, this should be a great set and addition to the SW LEGO universe. It is interesting to see earlier versions of the same figures. I can understand people not wanting to jump on these newer printed/detailed figures since they already have a version, but since I don't have anything from before and only got into LEGO SW in 2012, these are all great sets for me. But I can understand the frustration of the stormtrooper torso being slightly modified. I only have one of each and putting them side by side isn't terrible, but it would be better to maintain more continuity. But LEGO keeps making things more detailed/accurate (or at least they are trying), so I guess that is good news for us fans. But the same can be said for the re-iterations of all the ships. I think the 2012 X-wing/Y-wing/TIE Fighter are the best versions yet! Thanks for the review! I can't wait to get this set. Now I just have to wait until Christmas to open it...

Nice addition to the CB! You call this a quick build, but it would take me ages (I'm not super familiar with digital building programs). I have yet to sign up because I'm still debating if I have time/pieces to do something justice, but I hope my addition will add something to the CB. I think yours is a great addition and I can't wait to see more. Keep up the good work.

This should help. Click here. Good luck. I have been doing some of this off and on and it has helped a little bit. It may help you more since you are just now getting back into the hobby.

Monster Fighters 2012
TheLegoDr replied to Darth Nihilus's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
My Target didn't have any Halloween section or candy sections. They still have Back to school stuff. I'll keep looking. I've checked a few different Targets around here. I was excited when I first heard that! Although after buying the Monster Accessory Pack from S@H, I may not need as many polybags as I originally wanted. -
I only briefly saw the Last Airbender movie, but I don't remember big creatures in it. But James Cameron's Avatar did have larger creatures. I don't know. It would be interesting to see something similar to either of those. I guess we'll wait and see what really happens.

This may have been discussed before and for that I apologize. I didn't see it in any searches. I am curious on educated guesses regarding the price of the Elrond exclusive figure. I want the game, but I don't need it right away. I may wait until next year when it is significantly reduced (like all the other LEGO games) and then buy the figure in the aftermarket. But I'm not sure of what to expect. I mean, the polybag Hulk is averaging $20-23 on Bricklink. And that may have had more exposure than what this Elrond figure will have. I can look up prices, but I didn't know if anyone had any expert opinions on the matter from what they've seen over the months/years of Lego figure sales. I guess if you think about the game costing around $50 now with the free figure and I wait until next year the game price will drop to closer to $20, meaning I have about $30 leftover for the figure to break even. More than likely the figure will cost about that in terms of the Hulk comparison. Thanks for any information anyone can give. I can't wait for next summer's wave!

Give it time. I don't think people check out this post as often. With that said, impressive armies. I really like seeing large numbers of Black Falcons. I only have a few handfuls. It's neat seeing larger numbers of forestmen and wolfpack renegades, but at the same time I picture them as smaller factions (not that Lego would be realistic). But I like seeing it nonetheless. I still need to get all of my armies set up, but it won't compete with yours. I better get on it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale (although I don't really picture James Bond playing Texas Hold 'Em). Either way, that was a good one and I thought Daniel Craig did a good job as the lead. I know I saw QoS, but I really don't remember any details from it. I take that as it wasn't as good, but I should probably rewatch it sometime to make sure, and also in preparation for Skyfall.

Dark Knight Rises - Custom Minifigs
TheLegoDr replied to DarkKnight7's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Those are definitely neat customs. I have yet to get into custom decals or making my own figures, but it seems like a neat idea. Especially with figures we will never see in Lego form. Keep up the good work. -
Top Five Things I Miss About Old School LEGO
TheLegoDr replied to SirSven7's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That was an interesting read, but definitely came off as a rant. I much prefer the mellower informative blogs. Which I can't wait to continue reading upon finalization. With that said, I do agree and disagree with some of the things stated. I definitely do miss the baseplates. I have a huge stack of them. I liked the idea of covering a lot more ground with each build instead of trying to use the large plates to build around. I think that might be why I like the Modular buildings so much. You get classic smiley figures that aren't super detailed and you get baseplates. Plus you can create your own story. But that is one of the things I disagree with. Yes, Licensed themes are based around someone else's imagination, but that doesn't mean you absolutely cannot use your own along with it. Captain Jack Sparrow doesn't have to be Jack Sparrow, his name could be Ed and he works at a fun Caribbean style restaurant. I like seeing some of these characters/places in Lego form, but you don't have to build every set the way the instructions say. In fact, I hardly have any sets built (except for early castle/pirates..weird). I do agree about the license fees not helping people buy the product. But you can always wait for a sale. They always have sales that will offset a lot of the licensed fee, so that argument doesn't really hold any water. So you end up with a Licensed theme with beautiful figures and some neat new molds at about the same price as the Evergreen themes. That's kind of a win-win in my eyes. I really do miss the giant boxes and the flip lid. I am saddened that all of my early set boxes were thrown out when I was a kid. What child thinks to keep the box of his old toys. I miss going to the store and looking under the lid of the Pirate ships. With theft these days, that probably won't be making a return. Was theft really less of an issue 20 years ago? Wow, what a world we live in. The instructions are definitely more spread out, which is odd since that is costing more money to print on more paper, but oh well I guess. I love the older instructions with the alternate set pictures. And I love the old booklets that highlighted all the upcoming sets too. They had little scene backdrops with the smaller sized set listings. Lego should make a return of those instead of the larger Lego magazine which only covers the sets, but no fun background pictures. The times sure are changing. Let's hope for the best for TLG and its consumers. -
Seeing everyone together like that doesn't make me upset about the gold armor/helmet one bit. I was already okay with it, but seeing it in person makes me even more at ease. And I really like the actor with a black morion. I may have to get more actors than I originally planned on. I would love a Spanish army. Keep up the great work. This is yet another neat looking build in your long list.

MOC: Cecilie's collectible minifig vigs, series 6
TheLegoDr replied to Cecilie's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I really like the Flamenco dancer and Mechanic. But all of them look brilliant. I hadn't considered doing this before, but now I almost want to. Lack of space is the biggest and since I don't collect every character it would never look complete. Keep up the great work. Good thing TLG keeps releasing new series. We will always have more to look at. -
LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I've read a lot of people thinking the conquistador is a fail of a minifigure and as far as I can tell, he is my favorite. Funny how that works. I guess that is why these series are so popular, something for everyone. And with less people buying conquistadors, the more for me. But since my daughter is obsessed with the movie Tangled, I was actually planning on using the conquistador gold armor for a more elite castle guard similar that movie, but for my Lion knights. It might look nice not having a lion head on a few pieces of armor. Otherwise, I think the conquistador is brilliant. It doesn't bother me at all having gold pieces instead of silver. -
I like how that looks very much. I may need to try to incorporate that technique somewhere. Thanks for showing us. I haven't seen that before.

Based on the list alone, I am very thankful I will be saving lots of money next year on SW LEGO. When pictures are available, I may end up changing my mind, but I actually hope I do not. I need to make room for those other themes and since I'm only a mild SW fan, I don't want them hogging my budget. I'm mostly excited for May the Fourth promotion.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
The Mr. Freeze vehicle is quite cool. That'd be neat to see. Bane's vehicle makes sense for him, but I didn't particularly care for the drill or that one. Granted, I didn't buy the Batcave set. The WW jet is decent, although a bit small from what I would expect. But a great parts pack nonetheless. -
I wish I had news to share.. I loved the TMNT as a kid in the late 80s/early 90s. TMNT, G.I. Joe, and LEGO were THE toys I played with growing up. To combine them together would be amazing. I remember seeing some custom G.I. Joe and TMNT LEGO figures and they looked brilliant. Official models have potential, but who knows. I would have to wait and see how they turned out. This could be a decent seller or a huge flop. I think TLG will make the proper decision. New shell molds would be neat, but I don't think they could be used too much outside of the theme. Some new ninja weapons maybe (if Ninjago didn't already make them). Some foot soldiers could be neat, but they might not look as cool in LEGO form either. But I could picture BeBop and Rocksteady in LEGO. If we could get Casey Jones with his hockey mask, that'd be awesome. Krang maybe?? They wouldn't make it since it is based off of a movie and not the new animated series, but I would love Tokka and Rahzar figures. They were my favorite baddies, albeit not the best baddies in cinematic history. So maybe I would like this theme more than I first thought. We will wait and see.

In the words of Natalie Imbruglia, I'm torn. I like the idea of Licensed themes and what they can bring to the table. I don't love the price associated with them, but if you find them on a good sale, then that is a wash. I don't mind the skin-tone, but I would prefer if everything meshed better. But in all seriousness, I have seen the early Harry Potter/Star Wars yellow tone and I was not a fan, but when I look at the new tone figures, they look so much better. So I'm OK with the Licensed skin tone to an extent, but I would never want to give up yellow tone either. It is neat seeing a Licensed character in minifigure form though, even with the limitations on who that person is. As far as the sets go, yes it isn't the child's imagination creating that from the box, but neither is any LEGO set for that matter, if you think about it. Unless it is a giant box of bricks that allows the builder to build whatever they want, every set could have "limitations." With Evergreen or Licensed themes, the builder can modify it as needed to work in their environment, so they don't really have any limitations at all. I do love the new molds that become available. That really helps with MOCers/collectors. But if you think about it, there are a lot of new molds created for Evergreen themes too, so that isn't really an argument. I will continue to welcome new Licensed and Evergreen themes and will buy whatever will work at that given time.

Mr. Elijah Timms If minifigures are of no consequence, then the main question becomes: Do you want dark orange or sand green bricks to build with? I plan on getting both, so I cannot be of much help, but as much as I love the Haunted House for what it is, I much prefer Modular buildings in a nice downtown layout, so I would probably keep the Town Hall built and MOC the Haunted House. But that's just me.

I'm sure it has been posted before, but I would like to see a marching band member. I would picture it with a red or dark blue marching jacket and a tall hat. The downside it would probably appear too much like the Royal Guard a few series back. But it would be really neat to see. I would expect a small drum, but I would also welcome any of the brass instruments.

Review: 10228 Haunted House
TheLegoDr replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the review. I have been anticipating this set. I was already planning on getting the Vampire Castle, but I decided to scrap that and get this instead. I'll just bricklink the brown man-bat. This is a great looking house and I'm glad they used sand green in brick form instead of one of the grays. I'm not entirely sure if I will build this to display it, or just collect the figures and use the pieces to make another MOC Modular. Maybe even the Green Grocer. It was nice seeing the build closer up. Thanks. -
