I don't follow Ninjago other than a few random sets I have purchased on clearance. But that Lloyd minifigure looks awesome. I would definitely look to pick him up, but I doubt I would want/need the whole book.

I assumed these were selling well, so I'm not surprised there is another addition to the series. I'm excited and disappointed at the same time. The rest of the series has been awesome and great little builds/parts packs. They come off as great purist versions of Hogsmeade for Harry Potter (in my opinion), but they work great for a winter village series also. I'm disappointed because of all these other great themes/sets coming out. I don't know how I'll be able to afford everything. I've already cut out some sets/themes from my list. I guess I'll keep chipping away until I can afford the ones I want the most. I can't wait to see pictures and see if this is a worthy addition! I would certainly welcome a medium blue or a sand blue. I don't have any sand blue bricks.

Thanks for the replies. turtleman2020 Sure, use away. I'm glad you like it so much to want to use it. Dakar A It does resemble the town plan in color for sure. I looked at it to see how to do a theater, but I tried to not resemble it if I could avoid it. That's why I didn't use dark red for the curtain effect on the front. lightningtiger Thanks. I tried to keep it pretty streamlined without being too wild. I liked the idea of the mini movie playing inside. Adds another "play" feature. I'm not sure why I didn't get more replies to this, but hopefully everyone that has viewed it liked it.

What is the largest lego box for a set ever made?
TheLegoDr replied to SNIPE's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Over 3000 pieces for $100. And the original Town Plan $25. That is really neat to see. Inflation is an interesting thing. -
CUUSOO - Thinking With Portals reaches 10k
TheLegoDr replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Congrats Brickthing. I haven't heard of this Portal 2. From what I can tell it is an online game and I assume there are portals involved. Looking at the proposed wallpaper images on CUUSOO, it looks neat. I would have to wait and see what it actually looks like if it does get approved before I would consider buying it. But strictly from source material I wouldn't buy it to have it. We'll see where it goes. -
The window usage is brilliant. Good call. I like the arches and columns too. The interior is fitting for the size, not too crowded. Building in white is very difficult and I don't know how fitting it is with the rest of the colorful modulars. However, throwing in the brick bricks helps splash some color in there. You might want to put in a street light on the right side to follow with the rest of the modulars having a street light. Good luck in the contest. Yours (and others) will make it a really good competition.

B-M-07B I originally built a bank for a toysnbricks contest some months ago and was really pleased with it. When this contest came up I couldn't re-use that mini I built, so I had to come up with some new ideas. Not having looked at it for multiple months I was able to give it a fresh perspective and realized a lot of things I would have done differently. I tinkered with different building ideas and designs in my head before I actually had any time to sit down and build something. Wednesday 7/11 I finally had a few hours of downtime, so I set to work. I originally put together something with dark green. I figured we had these other colors, maybe a dark green building would be a nice addition. I wanted to name it the Emerald Theater, but my wife thought it was too dark. So I tore it all apart and started fresh with some livelier colors more apt for a movie theater. I hope you enjoy seeing the new/improved Starlight Cinema. The front facade. You can see some big windows on the bottom with some SNOT work on the sides. I changed my marquee completely. I originally used this piece in white, but then I decided to add some more lights in front to make it more inviting. The second level throws in some color with the medium blue and red. Along both sides of the vertical sign, the red cones resemble theater curtains. Many older theaters were reconditioned to house movie screens, so I thought that went along with the idea of a more historic downtown. The front angle. It shows the depth to the building. I thought making it one deeper on the back would be easier to house a screen/seating (which you'll see in a moment). It gives a nicer view to the marquee and roofing. The back angle. Shows more of the depth. There is a little dumpster for this and neighboring buildings with a few boxes beside the dumpster. If you remove the top, you will see some nice stadium seating. I thought the building should be modular. And on the other side, they seem to be screening a film about a wizard. Hope it is a good one. It must be in 3-D because I just noticed a giant finger coming at the screen. I hope you enjoyed looking at the pictures. It was a rushed, but fun little build. I have really enjoyed building in mini form. I will continue to do so in the future. I have a few ideas in mind of building already released sets into mini form. I just need to figure out the exact scale I want to work with. Here is a link to the flickr account. It shows a few more pictures including one with the rest of the mini modulars. And don't forget to vote ;)

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the pics Bizzy78 ! It helps a lot seeing each figure individually how it should be instead of the CGI manipulation. I like seeing figures with their legs bent and whatnot, but I know that isn't how the figure will look. So thank you. After looking at the pictures, most of my army building has decreased since first looking at the initial pictures. I still think the conquistador is my army builder this series, but I will probably not buy as many of the others as I originally thought. I'm really excited for the bat in black. I still kind of want the MF brown version, but this one will make me happy also! I'm going to keep looking at those pictures until my eyes dry out. -
Neat idea. Very original. I would expect no one else to consider doing a beach for this contest. The scenes are really clever. You have basically everything one would imagine on a beach, short of volleyball, which would be hard without a lego ball. The sand castle is really neat. Way to go there. It certainly fits between two modulars, but I would imagine with how close the water-line is that the backs of the other modulars would be flooded! Keep up the good work. Good luck. I still need to think of my park.

The line-up is great and I can't wait to get them all! I voted TDKR Bane because it looks so spot on. I can't believe they are making him. But a nice second place is Scarecrow actually. Marvel is Venom of course. He has been long wanted it seems. I always liked him as a kid and it is great to get him in Lego form. I'm not questioning Lego's motives because I know they will release everyone's favorites in due time. I'm still surprised at the people surprised they secured the license for a second year. It would have to be a multi-year license to make it worthwhile for all parties involved. Which means, many more years of great looking favorites.

Those creations are brilliant. I considered doing a Bat MOC, but never had the time to even sit down and think about it. I haven't supported anything on CUUSOO, but this is certainly something I would consider. I just don't feel like registering. Good luck. Great MOCs. I hope TLG releases something official like this.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
If you've seen any of the trailers you've seen a camo tumbler. That would be Bane's. It might be a spoiler only if you haven't seen/read anything at all regarding this movie. Otherwise it should be pretty well known. -
Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I want the new Penguin since I missed out on the old one, but I can't help but think he looks a lot more like the Mad Hatter with a monocle. Maybe they are just going for a much younger version of Oswald. Either way, I can't wait to get my hands on all of them. And I actually really like Mr. Freeze. The goggles will be good (maybe a reverse head), but I like the goggle-less version too. -
My wife always says "let's move to Canada." Mostly because of the hot weather, but also because of the other great things we hear about the north. My question, is Canada really as great as we think it is? I've always been a fan, but never been able to visit yet. I don't know how well my job will translate to that country, but it might be easier than I think.

Nice little scene. I really like the fountain. I was planning on putting in a fountain in mine, but I think mine will look fairly different than yours. The statue is a neat variation from the usual light bley. I like the railing and the steps up to the fountain though. Good luck in the contest.

The forced perspective works really well! Good job. Congrats on the anniversary. I just had my 3rd a few months ago, I should look into some of our wedding photos.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I originally planned on getting the Vampyre Castle, and then decided to just bricklink the manbats. Now I don't think I will be doing that. A great way to save money! Thanks TLG. When I first saw these pictures, I was floored and had to have multiples of lots of the figures. Now that I've seen the Superhero figures for 2013, I will have to rethink most of this series. I will still get one of a lot of them, but probably not many multiples. Makes me glad I didn't go all out with the evil knight from series 7. The cheerleader was appealing at first since I missed the first one, but I actually think I'd prefer the blue uniform anyway. Odd. And I had no desire for the original robot, but this new one looks really cool. My mind may change when I hold them in my hands though. That has happened with a few surprising figures. -
Why would you hope that? If they did that, you would more than likely only get ONE of the two figures, whereas they release them in sets then you and everyone else that wants them will get them. It'd be better if they released them in a set with the Bat or the tumbler (in my opinion) because I would want more than just the figure(s). We'll see what they do.
-
Jaw dropped/Mind blown when looking at these new figures. I was expecting some just from reading what people want, but these go above and beyond my expectations. Anything Batman related will be purchased by me and the fact they are coming out with TDKR figures/set(s) I am more than excited. Recently I almost bought Bane and Ivy from Batcave set, but then decided to wait and see if they were going to just re-use the same Bane in a TDKR set. Then they said no TDKR sets, but I still didn't order one to be safe. And now they are releasing a brand new version of Bane, so I may still want to get the older one, but it isn't as necessary since I prefer TDKR version anyway. And since Ivy is coming out in a set next year, I don't have to bricklink that either. Thank you TLG! The rest of the DC line-up is very welcomed. I didn't have any of the older versions, so I can't wait to get the new Mr. Freeze, Penguin, and Scarecrow . I much prefer these to the old. But I guess to each their own. And I'm not even a fan of Aquaman, but he looks awesome. The Marvel figures will be purchased for sure. I haven't heard of some of them, but I can't wait to add them to my collection. Venom . I'm glad the SDCC wasn't Venom, but I almost still want to get the variant. Even though I'm not a huge Spiderman fan. Methinks 2013 will be even more expensive than this year. How is that possible?? LOTR/Hobbit, Superheroes, Star Wars, CMF, Modular, Winter Village, potential Polar Express...e-gads.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
For every response that doesn't like this series, there are multiple more that do like it. So even if the ideas are running out (which I don't think is true), people are still wanting these figures. In fact, I want to army build this series where I haven't with the last few. So there is always something for someone out there. -
It doesn't come as park or recreation to me, but the build is simply brilliant. The structures look exactly like I would expect them to. Every city needs to reduce their footprint and yours is doing just that. The tv/scene with the tv is brilliant. Great color usage also. Good luck in the contest!

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The list was slightly underwhelming. Seeing the pictures for the first time, much more "whelming." I don't mind the rehashes since I don't have the earlier versions either, so I may end up picking up the new cheerleader and robot. I am very disappointed in the fairy. I will probably buy one for the collection, but not at all how I pictured it. The black bowler hat is great and I could always use more black suits. I will be getting multiples of the conquistador and vampire bat for sure. I might get extras of the thespian and bavarian for those torsos. I was hoping for a slightly different cowgirl, but this one will be a nice addition. The diver looks neat, but was never a planned purchase. I may end up picking him up after all. The new santa is perfect. I wasn't too keen on the pirate captain, but I may get him just to add to the ranks. When I first saw the pics, brilliant. The more I look at them, the less I want some of the figures. Which is great, it'll save me money later since I will have some army building to do. I think I will skip out on the Vampire castle now since I can get a black version of the bat and the vampire/bride in the haunted house. If my neighbors still want to go in on a set, I will probably do that and will end up with all of the figures anyway. We'll see. Glad we finally saw pictures! Can't wait for the HR. -
I like the color scheme used and the size and shape. It looks exactly as I would imagine it. The Rancor is amazing and I'm glad it isn't brick built. It would look too out of place next to every other creature out there. The figure line-up makes sense, but I know this set will be really pricey just because of the mold. I do hope it is 50-ish, otherwise it might be hard to get all the sets I want next year. But I guess we will see what else becomes available. I may not want that many since I just got into SW this year.

Nice build! I considered doing a 16 wide park, and I still might. I ordered a light bley head/hair from PAB just for a statue, but the type I want to do wouldn't work for this contest. It looks like a peaceful little area between giant buildings. Good luck in the contest!

I agree, that is A LOT of green. But you need that much green to make it "blend" in. It is a beautiful set and I already had all of LOTR and Hobbit on my wishlist. Seeing this only helps confirm wanting them. I can't wait to see interiors and other sets. But my budget...it's hurting.
