Still looking at the sets and I'm still at a pass with the CW sets. I only started collecting SW in 2012 because of the great line-up and I will pass on a lot of these. From what I can tell, a lot of people that were happy with 2012 will pass on this wave and the lot that were unhappy with '12 seem to want this wave, so I guess it all evens out in the end. Thanks for posting the planet sets. The figures don't seem like a great draw, but the mini ships seem like good builds. I may end up picking them up after all depending on closer inspection. But as far as figure selection, I think most will be duplicates.

Thank you TLG! My shopping list is getting smaller, therefore saving money for other themes. I wasn't planning on getting the A wing because I don't care about ships, but the figure line-up to a noob SW collector like myself will be a must have. And the Rancor Pit, of course. Otherwise, I think I can pass. I was waiting on the BPs, but I'm not too keen on them, so this is good. Now, just wait, the summer SW wave will blow me away and I won't have any money for it.. oh well, one step at a time. Thanks for the pics!

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the images. I am definitely picking those up. I planned on it anyway, but now I can be happy about it. They do look a little larger, so I would assume $20, but that's okay. Good minifigure line-ups and some neat vehicles. I normally don't build the sets, but I like the transforming vehicles on the Fury set. I like the different box art for each Batman set, since one is in the white outfit and the other isn't. Meaning, I'm glad they differentiated the box art logo instead of a catch-all Super Hero logo or something. -
I think for what they have to work with, the figures look outstanding. The source material paves the way for them, so TLG nailed it. With them being used in other themes, that wasn't the original purpose so it doesn't matter if they fit into other themes or not. It is a nice bonus if you can switch figures into other themes though. I think Splinter looks good from the side, but from the front he looked horrible. Splinter is a much needed figure, but the turtles are the drive (heck, they are the name).

That is an interesting concept Hrw-Amen. I like that. Mix it up a bit. Not every person is going to believe in the same thing, so there will always be a mix. So in LEGO form, some insects/aliens are going to fight alongside the humans, and vice versa. If you think of X-men, mutants and humans can be at odds or work together. The same could be said for here. I'd actually prefer to see that. It would/could provide a lot of back story how they parted ways and took sides. Instead of just saying humans want to have mass insect genocide and vice versa. I'm always torn on space themes, but this one may be really neat. I'll have to wait and see images.

Nevermind the cars, but "Dude, where are my pants?"

I think I prefer the plate-brick look to the actual brick brick, so nice touch there. The rounded pillars look very fitting also. I have been trying to come up with a place to use mine, but this works. Keep up the good work!!

I was going to say the color combo looks great! Someone said old and new gray? It almost looks green in the pictures. I would want to build a whole modular out of that color. But the color scheme is very fitting in this instance! Great use of the brick brick for the window. I'd love to see more. I love mini modulars these days and I prefer to build in mini form. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the link. I can't wait to get Elrond. I hope he has an alternative expression, even though this one fits the scene appropriately. I also like the mods to that Kili figure, it seems more fitting with the changes. But TLG can't win them all right. Otherwise the figures and sets are look great this wave.

That is very impressive. The detail, the size, everything. I like the figures marching toward each other. Seeing the larger armies (and it isn't all of them!) is always a good scene. I like the change up of some of the figures torsos/head gear and whatnot. I really like the bandit archer with the brown hood and the brown pants?? Seems very fitting and I may have to copy that figure sometime. I really like the water scene with the ship. You don't see that very often in these big landscapes. Keep up the good work. It'll be crazy seeing the 60 base plates next year!

Very fitting to the source material. I didn't know what to expect. I'm sure I've never really paid attention to Trojan houses before, but very good use of build techniques. Keep up the good work.
-
I would say this is impressive, but that is very understating. This is beyond impressive. The scale alone is something, but then jam-packed with all of those details is another. I don't have time to go through every flickr image, but if/when I ever do, I will be sure and bookmark this thread! If I had room for something like this, then it is definitely something I would want displayed in my LEGO room.

I am in the same boat. I want the figures, but the sets are pretty lackluster. I'm sure they did wonders with the source material. I wouldn't know, we don't have cable. But the figures are looking better and better the more I see them. The stealth shell set looks okay, but I would get it for the figures and the price probably being a little lower. The lair is decent and a good line-up of figures, but it all depends on the price. And I wonder how different Krang would be in the cheap and expensive set. I'd think there would have to be a variation, although I hope not. I prefer the Krang I grew up on, but I kind of like the new one too. But I agree, Shredder is the best figure in this series. So many memories. I can't wait to see pictures, but I can't wait for official pricing! I need to plan for next year with all of these great sets.

It also helps that Star Wars has had memorabilia since the early days and has been growing ever since. LOTR had some awesome and successful movies, but not a lot of other stuff to go with it other than the novels from many years ago. So marketing can be a tough sell at times. I do believe LOTR would sell better than a lot of people are expecting, but I can't expect it to become an Evergreen Licensed theme like SW. I would imagine Friends would maintain good longevity just because of the success and target audience. Every store around has barely any Friends sets, but has full shelves of every other theme. Either they didn't get a lot of shipments in, or they can't keep them on the shelves.

What do you prefer?, Lego Batman or Lego DC superheroes
TheLegoDr replied to Jackattack7's topic in LEGO Licensed
I liked the Funhouse set because of the figure line-up. The set itself is neat and I do have it built, but I haven't really touched it since last Christmas. Overall, I would say I like the DC Superhero theme instead of the original Batman theme since I don't have any of the original sets. So all of the remakes have been welcome by me (even though I haven't purchased all of them). But hopefully they will come out with more variety of heroes and villains. I think they are doing so much with Batman now because he is what is popular with the movies and he is well known to the public. I'm a huge superhero fan, but I couldn't begin to tell you much about the JLA, so to get those figures (definitely must haves) would be awesome, but I wouldn't begin to be able to give proper marketing to sell those sets until something is able to back it up. So in the long run, DC will be better than Batman because of the size. But direct comparison, I still like the detailing of a lot of the newer sets too. -
I loved Ice Planet 2002 when it came out. The color scheme was brilliant. These figures fit right in! Especially with the figures coming out these days. Keep up the good work. It'll be neat to see more.

Seeing the pictures more and more makes me want the sets even more (even though I was already going to get them). I like seeing the elves more close up. I wonder if the Legolas torso would work well with Haldir's army at Helm's Deep? The dark red/gold color scheme seems fitting. Not that I will be building an army of them necessarily. Tauriel is beautiful. A redheaded elf. We need to keep the redheads alive. Middle Earth are the only "for sure" sets I will be getting. I'm torn on other themes that I normally collect, so we'll see how that goes.
-
Very impressive! I love the rock wall and the caves underneath. Seems very fitting for what I would expect of Helm's Deep. The official model isn't too bad, but this makes it all the better. I will be getting mine this Christmas, so I doubt I will have time to modify it to compete with this, so good job! But if I ever decide to, I will look to this thread for inspiration. Keep up the good work!

Great MOC. I don't own any of the other chess sets. I was in my dark ages during that time of the originals. And I don't own the Kingdoms set either. But this is very cleverly built. The character usage is brilliant. I think Rohan soldiers fit well as the pawns. I picture orcs more as pawns, but technically the uruks would fit better in a chess set. Gimli and Legolas belong together anyway so they can keep up their competition. Ents make perfect sense as rooks, but the scale might be difficult to make them sturdy and shapely. And Gollum belongs below in the caves, perfect place for him. And Gandalf being a queen, didn't Sir Ian come out as gay at one time?? So I suppose that is fitting. This is brilliant. Keep up the good work. We'll see what LEGO decides to do.

This is very impressive. I love the landscaping. The exterior trees and the muddy trail with the cart. I really love the interior jousting area with the stands for the nobility and the commoners. Very clever. I really like how you added in an actual scene with people doing jobs. Every castle needs two guards to move things from point A to point B. And in a few hours, they'll move it back to justify their pay scale . Overall great scene! I wanted The Joust when I first saw it, but all of these other great sets came out, so I was deciding not to get it. Now I want it again! Thanks a lot!

for the people, freedom and honor! Castle Diorama
TheLegoDr replied to markus1984's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Impressive scale. I really like the cracks in the wall. That was very cleverly designed and it really looks like cracks! The crumbling wall is brilliant also. Keep up the good work! -
Brilliant. One word to describe it. The spilled paint is very clever though. The little details really add up to something grand in a smaller scale. Keep up the good work!
-
I love the door and the stone wall structure. The roofing is brilliant too. Great builds. Keep up the good work.
-
I'm still torn on the figures, but the more I look at them, the better they appear. I think they did a good job with the head molds and the shell backpacks. I doubt I will have to "get them all!" but I may end up picking up some of the cheaper sets depending on how they look. I mostly just want Shredder and some foot soldiers if possible. I would prefer a larger Krang, but this one doesn't look too bad (I haven't seen the source material). I can't wait to see more pictures so I can be for sure.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I love the Arkham set. I guess I hadn't noticed the lack of cells or cell labels. And I'm not their target audience since I'm 28 years old. I just know they did an awesome job with that set. I'm excited to get all of those figures and I'm actually thankful for getting another chance at getting Ivy in a set. I didn't want to pay $20 on bricklink for her individually. The Bat looks much much better with the all black instead of blue. I understand why blue was involved. Probably why blue is involved in the mini-TIE fighter too. But I know I will be modding mine to better fit the Nolanverse. It is a shame about Bane's head not being a wrap-around mask, but it still looks awesome and I much prefer this version of Bane to the black mask version in the Batcave set, so I'm thankful we are getting him at all. Seeing the actual set pictures makes the set more appealing than the box art for sure. I was already going to get it, but now I'm more excited about it.
