Discontinuation of “Grab Bags” in LEGO Brand Retail
TheLegoDr replied to Bricksan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That stinks. I never bought any, but I've never been to a Brand store either. My first trip will be later this month, and now I guess I won't be able to look for them. I was always excited to grab some after reading what can be included. Hopefully TLG will come up with a good solution for everyone, although I could picture the pieces getting donated to hospitals or other needed venues, or in their own play area. -
Very cleverly built. I may have to borrow some ideas here. I keep thinking of the batmobile being a lot larger than that (well longer anyway), but this fits nicely. Keep up the good work!

Masked Builder I only opened mine for the figures then put the rest of the pieces back in the box, so I have no idea. But from what I've seen it does look like a neat little set. You get a light brick and some of those gorgeous olive green slopes. I'll have to open mine up sometime. Now a question of my own. I was torn on the Vampyre Castle from Monster Fighters when it came out. It has some neat features (which I don't really care about, but the pieces may come in handy somewhere). And of course, the figures are awesome. But I originally decided to not get the castle and get the Haunted House instead and will receive the Vampyre/Bride in that set and bricklink the man-bats. However, I recently came across a new unopened box for $60.00 instead of the normal $100.00. I may end up picking it up for that price since I was on the fence before. But I'm not so sure. What does everyone think?

I have nothing new to add to this. I was about to say the same thing. We probably have multiple 4+ ShopKos here and I have always seen high LEGO prices. But I have also seen good clearance deals. Speaking of which, I should make a stop at one soon to see if they have anything worthwhile.

I really like the double wide doors with the 1x2x2 windows above on the gray building. And in Castor-city, I love what you did with Grand Emporium. Everyone always connects them, but you have that spacing with more walkway in the back. I may have to consider doing something like that. Keep up the good builds!

DarkDragon I only bought a few of those thinking I wouldn't have that many figures to display. So when they were on clearance at Wal-Mart last Christmas, I didn't buy any. Huge mistake! I love those cases, even if you can't have certain accessories held vertically. I've been looking to buy more, but I also like these other cases people have suggested, so I'm torn now. I also thought about having my dad build me some out of wood. He's very handy with woodworking and I thought it might look a little unique/classier that way instead of plastic, although more expensive. badbob001 Thanks for showing us your displays. That is very impressive. I love the creativity of having the angled displays. The mime especially is creative. I hadn't considered buying extra bodies for him, but now I almost would want to (granted I don't own the original either). I may have to buy those cases when I have some extra funds. I like how much room there is to display the figures plus accessories. It seems they are pretty sturdy, and that price is unbeatable for the amount that can be held. Edit: I just checked that website and was going through the checkout process. I had no idea shipping was going to double my total. I only had one in my cart at $25.00, but shipping for that one item was $24.50, so almost $50 total. I guess the price isn't as unbeatable as I thought. I didn't realize shipping would be so high. Just to forewarn anyone else from the states trying to place an order. I may have to keep looking.

They need to stay competitive, so I guess it makes sense. That is a lot of pink, but when I think of Barbie, I think pink. She always had a pink convertible and dream house. I honestly don't see this being as big of a deal just because it is Barbie instead of LEGO. I think the media is fickle like that. Plus, I think the controversy probably helped LEGO a bit and Barbie has been declining from what I've read, so this might help out Mattel also.

Methinks I need to read up on a lot of comic book lore. When that film was confirmed, I had never heard of Guardians of the Galaxy or any of these other characters. And I will need to learn a lot about Thanos before the next movie. Other than Wiki, is there a good site that discusses a lot of these characters so I get feel for them? Thanks

That is a really neat change. I like the older design, but this is welcomed as well. I wasn't planning on buying any chess sets since I don't need to build up my armies anymore and I've heard bad things about the Chinese printing, but this indicates it might be worth picking up. Thanks for showing us. News to me.

I'm always excited to see what is available for Bricktober, but I've never participated (mostly due to the higher costs). I think these vintage figures are neat, but there are a select few figures I'd want out of each set and I'm certainly not buying enough to get all four series. I haven't stepped into a TRU since maybe early this last winter. SO I may have to stop in just to see what is available.
-
Sure I want sets with all of these figures, but I also want this poster! I have a few of those Frodo posters, but I'd much prefer some of these action shots. The Balrog looks fantastic as brick built. I can't wait to see if these (or a similar design) gets made!!

Nice build! I really want my own version of the Tumbler, but I'll have to just copy someone else's to make it look appropriate since I don't have a lot of vehicle building pieces. Keep up the great work.

Nice rendition! Especially with just scrap LEGO. Keep up the great work. I'll definitely check back for more viewings.

The Penguin's Batman Minifigures. )
TheLegoDr replied to The Penguin's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I love seeing updates to your customs. Most often they are of people I have never heard of. You ask for other villains or Batman related people and I don't know the majority of what you have done, so in no way can I be of assistance. However, I do enjoy seeing them. I will be happy seeing any figures you want to make. Out of the new batch, my favorites are Catman (again, never heard of) and Flash. I can't wait for an official Flash figure though. I really like the Catman look surprisingly. I'll have to look into him. I do like Green Arrow, but his beard does look a little off, it must be the yellow coloring on the licensed skin tone. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see more! Do you ever re-modify anyone or are all of these figures intact still? I'd love to see a display wall with all of these customs. -
Unless I missed something, I thought it was confirmed that the SDCC figure was the symbiote Spiderman, and not Venom. And that is why they are coming out with an official Venom figure in 2013. I do like the CC figures, but at the same time I'm not going to spend over $100 for any figure, no matter who it is of. With that said, I would like to own all of the figures released because I like collecting figures. I do agree the packaging shows it is an exclusive, so it becomes more valuable. Otherwise they can release the figure in a cheap set (like Superman) and then everyone is happy. But there is still that exclusive version out there. TLG could conceivably change one part of the figure, even a subtle face printing change/expression and now it is no longer the same figure. How often do they put a cape on a SW figure and say it is new? Or just switch something up slightly and then it becomes a new figure, even if everything else is exactly the same as the previous version? People will still buy it because it is "new" and it will be different from the exclusive. I don't know if TLG will do that with any of the CC exclusives, but they do it in other themes, so that would anger a lot less people. At that price, I would be very worried about buying a fake, even if the printing looks spot on and the quality is there. I agree, if they can make that quality of a knock-off, then sign me up, but only if the price can reflect that. The problem is the price will still be elevated and you aren't buying an official product. If you knew you were buying a fake, you'd expect some decline in price at least, otherwise you pay the premium of LEGO exclusive. I realize anyone selling these is trying to make money so they aren't going to give a discount on a good fake if they can milk it for everything they can. But that is why I'll never buy an official CC figure because I wouldn't want to gamble if it is real or fake. And with the technology these days, anything can be faked.

Since I already ordered something earlier this month and received the zombie car (which isn't anything amazing, but nice when it is free), I will definitely wait until October. But it is nice to have the option. I guess I'll never understand the reason to own something early, if everyone else will own it eventually anyway. When it is unique like the SDCC figures, then yes, I understand. But not an early release for a mainstream product. Either way, I hope everyone enjoys the set now and later. I can't wait to build it.

Dark Knight Rises - Custom Minifigs
TheLegoDr replied to DarkKnight7's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I love the customs. I think the new Blake with the sparkle eye is more LEGOfied, but I do agree without the sparkle does look more like the character. I really like the catwoman with her mask (not the goggles). If only there was a mold with the goggles flipped up so it looked like the cat ears. And the revised Joker is awesome. Keep us posted on how things go. I will definitely be interested in some purchases if it is affordable for both of us. -
Well, that works too! I guess I haven't studied any of the figures too much to realize it wasn't another new mold. But I like how it is printed. It definitely looks different enough! Edit: I guess when I first looked at it (and I still can see why I thought that), that Saruman's beard was actually the hairpiece and beard combined similar to the CMF caveman. I can kind of see a crease where they would be separated though.
-
That image is awesome. Saruman looks awesome. I can't wait for that figure (with yet another new beard). The Balrog is perfect. I love the flame whip. Don't you need the old style flames to connect them properly?? I wonder if they will reuse that old mold then. I can't wait to see more LOTR sets. I may have to cut out other themes to make sure I purchase all of the LOTR/Hobbit sets.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
When I was at Target feeling them, one of the employees just laughed and said he knew some people who could feel them, then walked off. I guess they probably see a lot of "outside target audience age" feeling the packets. It is nice to help out others. I don't mind army building, but I was going through series 6 and this other guy and his girlfriend were trying to find a Roman. I already had a few in my basket so I gave him one. Sometimes it's good to be nice. The world could use more people like us And purpleparadox, from what I've read of your comments on here, you seem like a really nice guy. I'm sure that good karma will come back your way in some form of LEGO haha. Good luck feeling everyone. Great series. -
The X-Wing is swooshable, but if you're such a huge LOTR nerd (enough to point that out in the question) and you didn't mention how much you enjoy Star Wars, I would also say go for Mines of Moria. It has a lot of great characters in it. I haven't opened mine yet, but I've heard good things about the figures, but not good things about the sticker amount.

LDD Bike Rider Template
TheLegoDr replied to Nachapon Bricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
After looking at this image some more, I've concluded the middle dude with the tan beard looks very Mad Max-ish. With the new movie coming, think TLG will release sets for that -
I haven't read The Hobbit so I don't have any experience with the characters or what I would imagine them to be like. It looks like I have PJ to thank for that... But with that said, I think TLG is hitting these figures spot on. I like the new beards/hair pieces. I'm excited for the new figures to add to my collection and of course will have to watch the movie and read the book thanks to TLG. But it is nice seeing the line-up! Thanks for the updates.

Licensed and Friends seem to be where the money is at these days. But with extra money from them hopefully comes new evergreen themes. And yes, lots of new pieces that can be used elsewhere. I definitely miss the Western theme, but it will be neat seeing some new figures/buildings/stagecoaches, etc. with this theme. I know it is licensed, but I'm still excited at the preliminary thought. Now if the sets are no good, then that is another story. I asked for the whole line of POTC for Christmas last year and I'm mostly happy with how they turned out. But I was a bigger fan of the early POTC movies. With The Lone Ranger, I have very little idea of how that will be, so I can't say for sure how much I'll actually want of this line. But if there are some good pieces on a good sale, I will for sure pick them up.
