That is beautiful! I love the color scheme. I want to build my own version right now! I like how the inspiration and this MOC look nothing alike (at least to me). And yes, that is a compliment. You took inspiration and came up with something really unique and beautiful. That is awesome. If I do "copy" this, I probably wouldn't do a stand alone building (even though that is brilliant very fitting), but instead do another front facade amongst the other modulars. I would picture a downtown university to blend a little bit, but I would have no idea since I haven't been to a city university like that. The universities I've seen were all on a huge spread out campus, but I like this idea very much. Keep up the great work. I will check back often.

Those are great little builds. It'd be really neat to see it in real bricks all together. But I can settle for the a single file rendering (if possible). Keep up the great work.

That is simply ridiculous. Did you take lots of Xanax while building this? I don't plan on attempting this, but it does look neat. Keep up the great work!

I haven't really been into Ninjago for the most part. I like the idea since I missed out on the original Ninja wave. I have been getting more into fantasy so the baddies will fit into that. The figures do look really neat and detailed, but I haven't been a strong collector. With that said, I thought the theme was being canceled anyway, not necessarily due to poor sales. I don't know about replacement themes or any details, but unfortunately good things do come to an end. TLG probably wants to make room for soemthing new. Holding onto the Star Wars license probably makes enough money for the company to continue to make more original themes. If they didn't get rid of some of their original themes, then the same stuff would be on the shelves every part of the year and sales might become stagnant. But by mixing it up they can allow more creative ideas come to fruition. They have to hold onto some of those licenses to help fund the other side of the business. But again with that said, some of the new Ninjago figures are neat and I may consider buying them before the theme is done.

Neat improvements. I love that ship and I look at it quite frequently. I really like the improved kitchen space and the balcony off the back. Typically I don't modify too many official sets, but sometimes it can add a little something extra. I am currently modding the Queen Anne's Revenge to be more similar to the IFS instead of a smaller styled ship. What did you do to the bow to make it sturdier? Thanks. Keep up the great work.

REVIEW: 8833 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 8
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the great review. I've been waiting to read it. I like seeing them up close and personal before I purchase them. The review confirms the figures I want the most. I don't think it deterred my thoughts on any of them. I'm still torn on the Fairy. I like the wings, but not the rest of the figure. Oh well. I'll still get one for my daughter to have. The conquistador is by far my favorite and I will be army hoarding them for sure. Now I just have to wait for the official release in my area. Thanks again. -
I hate tattoos. They were never for me. But to each their own. With that said, the design is really cool.

Great little build here. I really like the addition and how it is coming off of a much larger house. That glass ceiling is amazing and I may have to borrow that idea in a future build. The interior fits well with the Friends theme. I like the scenes you set up. Good luck in the contest, but with this build I don't think you need it.

The Penguin's Movie and Cartoon Minifigures. )
TheLegoDr replied to The Penguin's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
These are beautiful! You need to make extras and sell them to give us non-customizers a chance at owning some of these, while still lining your pockets with money to further your customs! I love the Captain Hook figure the most. But I also really love the torsos on a few of those figures. Keep up the great work. I always look forward to seeing your customs. -
Question about Overland Park, KS Lego store
TheLegoDr replied to prozac's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks for the info! I am really glad they opened a store near me. I live 3 hours north of there, but will be making a trip to the Lego store for me and the American Girl store/Disney Store for my daughter. Good thing they are all located in the same area. It will be my first Lego store experience. -
Thanks for the interview. Gives us an insider's look to the theme. Granted we already knew a lot of that, just not specifics about the designers themselves. I would have been happier with more female mini-figures, but I suppose the mini-dolls work too. Them being a "doll" definitely would appeal to the young girl, but the only thing I would fear is how "skinny" they look compared to the fuller-figured mini-figure. Obviously people are shaped differently and Lego/Friends figures are in no way proportionate to human beings, but something to note. Also, I've read articles that Pink was actually for boys originally and blue being more dainty was for girls. Interesting how times have changed. Here is a link to the article that talks about it. I don't know all of the specifics, but interesting nonetheless.

Thanks for the review. I was lucky enough to come out of my Dark Ages just as the 2010 Harry sets were coming to stores! I love the whole line much more than the previous incarnations. I really liked Aragog (that is until Shelob came out ) The overall building is actually quite nice and I really like the interior. It has some nice touches from the book like the food hanging from the ceiling. The light brick is a neat feature, although I never use them for fear of having to change the battery. The minifigures look great. I don't think it looks like Hermione either, but at the same time, I rarely see a minifigure that looks like its real life counterpart. I actually am really pleased with Hagrid. No he isn't as giant as one would expect, but within the realm of Lego I am satisfied. I would definitely give this set a higher score than 39/50, but that is because Harry Potter is my favorite theme. If TLG released more sets, I would be more than willing to cut out some other licensed properties. Anyway, thanks for the review. It was nice seeing this again.

I finally was able to watch the latest Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I thought it was much better than I heard from everyone else. I thought it was a good companion movie to the series and actually better than the 3rd overall. Granted I would have liked some more sets from AWE in Lego form, but maybe in the future. As far as the 4th installment goes, it wasn't as funny as the first movie. I liked seeing the Queen Anne's Revenge on the screen since my only image was the official Lego model. Too bad they didn't release some Spanish figures. Also, with anyone that has seen it, did you notice King George's men wore red while on land, but they all wore blue coats while on the sea. Is that historically accurate? I know there is a huge debate about what country the official Lego figures belong to from the early 90s. I wish they would have released some blue coats along with the red coats. Anyway, I recommend seeing the movie if you like the Pirates series. 4/5 probably.

It was a few weeks ago, but I purchased a whole bunch of medieval heads and Indian torsos/pants from Bricklink. Also, picked up a few older CMFs that I missed out, like the Indian Chief, Sheriff, and a few others. I don't remember really since they got tossed aside. But I know at the time I was really excited about them

Well, I only recently got into MOCing so sorting them all out might be a good idea. Even as a child I never had sets stored together, if they weren't already built, they were just sorted by color in random boxes. This allows you to "hunt" for the pieces, which can be fun, but very time consuming. Keeping the sets together in pieces would allow quicker builds/sales in the future, but do you plan on selling them? If so, then do it that way. If no intention of selling them, unless you plan on building them all again the same way they should be, there is no reason to keep them together really. One thing would be the older sets/colors would clash with the newer ones so you may be able to separate them easier that way. Good luck with your decision.

AncientDayz I plan on doing that also. My wife has no interest in baseball so she wouldn't want to go to any of the stadiums, but I know I would. But she'd probably want to sight-see the other areas of the cities anyway, so it could be a win-win situation. If I wasn't buying Lego I would definitely have a lot more money to stockpile in the bank. There are too many good themes/sets coming out that it costs an arm and a leg to keep up with it. I guess that's good and bad. But I guess an official answer would be more vacation time traveling. Since finishing school and starting my job, we haven't been able to take any vacations within the last few years, so this fall will be our first. But without Lego we would definitely be able to do more traveling. Maybe I should just limit the sets I purchase...no, that's crazy talk.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
He probably means Hulk 3 as in after the Eric Bana and Edward Norton versions. So this would be the third incarnation of Hulk. Either way, I don't particularly care for the Hulk, but I wouldn't mind seeing some new sets with him in it. -
Very clever build! I love seeing miniature versions of official sets. So much in fact that I planned on doing something similar, only with different sets. But I can clearly see the resemblance with the larger house. Way to go! Keep up the good work. I may have to try something similar.

Review: 9465 The Zombies
TheLegoDr replied to The Penguin's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks for the review. I was already planning on getting this set, but that is because I'm into minifigures. The set itself isn't too spectacular, but that is usually what happens with lego. Since I'm not the target audience, play features are lost on me since I normally don't build the sets anyway unless it is something I actually like. But it is cheaper to buy the set than just the minifigures, plus that way TLG gets my money directly instead of some other seller. Either way, the review was highly detailed and covered everything that needed to be covered. I'm sure it will influence many purchases/avoidances. Kudos. -
Thanks for the review! I love this set. When I first saw the pictures I definitely knew I had to get it. I still have yet to make the purchase because of all these other great sets, but I will definitely get this. Your review only confirms that. I love the minifigures (especially the green princess). The wall builds are neat and I love the detailing on everything. I almost want to rebuild the King's Castle in this same manner. Not to connect them in any way, but to give that castle more detailing. I love the sand blue building too! Maybe I'll mod that to be a little larger also. I need to get back into the groove of Medieval building. I've been too distracted with other stuff as of late.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 9 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to muscleman's topic in Special LEGO Themes
After all of the leaks on EB, I have come to just sit and wait because I have been surprised before (Olympics figures anyone?). That photo quality was terrible, yet it was true. Series 8 had a vampire listed and it became a manbat, so definitely lost in translation. Same goes for this proposed series 9 list. A lot could be lost in translation or descriptions are misleading. Or it could be a bunch of shenanigans. All of the words I wanted to use in place of shenanigans weren't the proper usage (ballyhoo, tomfoolery, hullabaloo). Anyway... I don't mind this series 9 list, but it does make one wonder how much of it is accurate, if any. So time to wait for the pictures or an official leak.
