The other day picked up a few more Series 8 conquistadors (I think I'm at 6 now) and another 5 actors. So I was planning on making them both into a nice little Spanish fleet. And I think the gold morion works great on the actor.

Multiverse Maybe I am reading the question wrong, do you just want the figures or are you partial to their "weapon of choice" as well? I'm not super familiar with Ninjago, but the newer figures look really neat. I would only be interested in the figures, so I would look at bricklink and see how much they go for there and if it is cheaper to just buy the official sets/spinner packages then go that route. I've noticed sometimes it is cheaper to go through TLG/retailer than an individual person most often. I wouldn't expect the prices to soar, but according to brickpicker, the Ice Dragon Attack value was extremely elevated so I couldn't say for sure if the NRG figures would garner more interest. I've never been one to keep things sealed for investment purposes and I'd rather display the figures together. But I would recommend getting them if you really like the looks of them. I am holding out for the kimono versions in 2013.

I watched Clash of the Titans (remake from 2009 I think). I remember loving the original back in the day. I liked seeing it updated with better CGI and everything. Gemma Arterton wasn't a bad addition either. Now if only TLG would produce some sets to coincide with those particular stories, I will be a happy camper. I may have to try my own purist ways to do that. I thought the mummies from the Pharaoh's Quest line were similar enough to the Desert tribe in the movie. I like Ralph Fiennes as an actor, but his portrayal was very Voldemort-like. Maybe he couldn't shake that mentality. I probably wouldn't purchase the movie, but if it was ever on, I would watch it again. 4.25/5

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the information. I will definitely have to wait for pictures then. I was expecting more for TDKR set. -
I love the stone detailing on this place. The windows look fantastic, but my favorite parts are the studs facing out creating some stone work and then the edges with the two round studs between 1x1 bricks. Keep up the great work. I knew I didn't have enough time to take part in the Guilds and after seeing all of these great creations, I never would be able to compete.

That is basically the only thing I ask for from my parents and my wife. I should really start asking for more practical stuff.

Yesterday I watched The Grey with Liam Neeson. It was on Instant on Netflix so I thought why not. The storyline was kind of slow moving, but overall I thought it was a good movie. I kept yelling at the screen because some people are so ignorant/stupid that I could easily picture them being in this situation and something happening. I kept rooting for the antagonist at certain times. But I thought Liam (basically the only star power) did his job well. I was expecting something different than what it was, but I didn't really know what it was about before watching it either. Rank 3.75/5 but I probably wouldn't sit and watch it again.

Great views. That is certainly different from the view of my office. I get to watch traffic go by and look at another building. Splendid.

Great MOC indeed. Good use of bricks for landscaping. The burrows look how I would expect them to. Keep up the good work. Congrats on the 3rd place!

The spinners aren't necessarily a cheap way to get the figures, but if you are only collecting the figures and the sets don't have any interest and considering some of the prices on bricklink/ebay, a spinner sometimes can be the way to go. I've only acquired a few spinners last Christmas on clearance, but I like the ninja figures. I don't care for the storyline or sets though. The new kimono style figures will be must haves, but it might be hard to swing with all of the other themes coming out.

I was very hesitant about this theme when the descriptions were being released by the few insiders, but now that I see a picture of a proposed figure from Chima, I am more than intrigued. If that is how they will turn out, I will more than likely buy this theme, which is upsetting since I was hoping on saving money next year. The ninjago kimono robes look awesome too. I can't wait to see the other animals and how they turn out. If it is a molded head, that's okay, but if it really is a mask, I'll be all over that.

snaillad If I was going to spend a lot of money on a few sets, I'd go big or go home. Modulars all the way. I love the design and build techniques. Plus they look great when you start adding them together to create a nice street scene. The Tower Bridge is impressive and if I didn't want to spend money on all these other sets, I would definitely pick one up. My wife was just commenting on how neat it was, so I almost might order one anyway. nicoga3000 Do you like minifigures or a complete build more? From my understanding the Death Star is a great play set, but the Tower Bridge is an impressive display piece. I love minifigures and I've been getting into Star Wars lately, but a lot of those are an older design of the figure and I think the newest versions look much better. So if it was me, I'd go Tower Bridge all the way, and then use the rest of the money that you would have spent on the Death Star and pick up a few other sets (even Star Wars related if necessary). Miles I only have the Fire Brigade, but it is by far my most favorite Modular. The aesthetic is brilliant for sure and if you are going to do a Ghostbusters MOC I would imagine there would be some good piece usage with that, although I haven't seen any online ideas for a LEGO Ghostbusters firehouse. I hadn't considered that before, but that would actually be really neat. Great, now I may have to try my hand at that. As far as the Joust goes, I think the entryway and little buildings look great. Much better than the King's Castle, but do you plan on keeping it together or MOCing something else with it (like the Fire Brigade)? I intend to get the Joust sometime, but I would start with the Fire Brigade. It will definitely go away a lot sooner than the Joust. The Joust is a 2012 set basically and being D2C it should be around a little while. I think S@H might still have Diagon Alley which was 2011.

Thanks for the information! I'm not a huge City fan, but it is nice to know what is coming out. Sometimes there is a set or two that catches my eye. The museum sounded interesting, but with it barely being a building and I don't really care about vehicles, I will probably avoid buying that which saves me money to spend on all of these other great themes! I still can't wait to see the pre-lim pictures, but I'm not that excited compared to other themes.
-
Neat set-up! I like the museum and I love the tudor style building. Perfect place for antiques for sure. I may have to try to incorporate something like that into my layout. Dismantling MMV here I come. I like the steps down to the subway. I've never considered doing something like that before, but I like the idea of a multi-layered city layout. Keep up the good work.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks to S@H I finally received a few random packs. I typically go to the stores and feel the packets, but no one around stocks them yet. They have areas set up, but no figures out on the racks yet. So I took the plunge and ordered some random figures. Luckily I got 3 different figures, but I only wanted 2 of the 3. I'm not a big fan of the female Alien, unlike most others. I may have to return that one. But I did get the diver and the pirate captain. I am more excited for the captain than I thought. I think the torso might come in handy. I'll have to see how it looks intermixed with the other redcoats. I don't care about having another pirate. I care about amassing a redcoat army (traditional or non-traditional). I can't wait for stores to stock these. I will have my fair share of conquistadors and actors before it is all said and done. -
I watched Cowboys & Aliens the other night. I've been getting into more modern day stylized westerns and this one fit right in. I thought Daniel Craig was pretty cool in the lead and can't be too disappointed with Olivia Wilde in a role. It made me want to bust out some MOCs with some Sci-Fi/Western mash-ups. It made me want a lot more Western torsos than the few I have from the Wild West theme in the mid-90s. I guess Lone Ranger theme will take care of some of that next year. I'd probably rank it 4/5 for entertainment value. But I doubt I'll rent it again or buy it.

I thought Jamie suggested something obvious in one of his remarks during that interview. Something about always burning his food or something which led a lot of people thinking it was a restaurant. We shall wait and see what happens.

I could picture standard heads with a body accessory that allows a shell to cut down on costs of new molds. But at the same time, I could also see them doing something similar to the Gamorrean guard from the new Jabba's Palace to make it blend a little more and to make the head a little more accurate. I'd be just as happy either way, unless the new molds made the costs too high to obtain the sets. I would love a new Turtle Wagon!

I watched Sucker Punch last night. After reading a lot of reviews and hearing a lot of bad press for it, I almost didn't rent it, but I recall the trailer being entertaining. I mean, girls with guns and a katana killing steampunk zombies and dragons..seemed interesting. For what it was supposed to be, it was an entertaining movie. But if you want a thought provoking movie, you will be disappointed. The acting was good enough for what it needed. The action sequences were pretty neat overall. I would recommend watching it, but go into it with an open mind. I'd rank it 3.5-4/5. Tonight will be another movie, we'll see what I can find.
-
Thanks for the review. It was nice seeing it more closely before I buy it. I will definitely be getting it, but only if I can find it on a 50% off sale after Christmas like I did with the 2011 SW Advent calendar. It is not worth $50 in any lifetime, but 'tis the spirit of the season... I like some of the mini builds. Not everything will be perfect at that scale, but that is part of the fun. The AT-AT would be better if it was a little more rounder/angled on top instead of looking so blocky. I actually like the Naboo ships they built. I'm sure I could just as easily rebuild these seeing the small amount of pieces, but then I won't get snow droid and Santa Maul..then I'd just need to get some horns.
-
It may or may not be a disservice to other buyers. But I would definitely have contacted eBay about it regarding usage rights of a photo. At the very least, they would take their own pictures and re-list it. If they make more money or not, the market is fickle at times. Good luck with what you come up with.

Minifigure marketing; package redesign and other ideas
TheLegoDr replied to raiderone's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am OK with the feel method. I'm not a huge fan of blind packaging. It can make things difficult when you are in a hurry, especially with a toddler in tow. I've considered just buying a box, but then I'd end up with multiples I don't care about and I don't want to go to the trouble of selling them on-line, even if I could make money. With that said, if they went to boxes which would eliminate any feel method linked damage, I would quit buying them and only buy them from after-market resellers which equals less money for TLG. I would say they knew what they were getting into when they created this series, otherwise they would have changed it already or they would have started it with something else. A super rare figure would be upsetting for a lot of "gotta have them all" collectors and if it happened to be one of the figures I actually wanted, then it'd be upsetting for me as well. So I would prefer if they never did anything like that, and I don't suspect them to. If they were, it would be included in one of those newer minifigure collections that you see/know what you are getting to begin with. -
D'oh! Slap on the head. I forgot all about that figure since I had no desire to acquire it. Makes sense. Thanks for the input. Looking it up on Bricklink shows to be about what I was expecting, $25-30. So I might as well get the game early and the figure guaranteed because I will end up spending about the same either way. Thanks again.

What's the least important aspect of you of Lego?
TheLegoDr replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Certain play features for sure. I don't flick the missiles because I don't want to hit anyone's eyes. Same reason I don't shoot my cannons, even though that is actually fun sometimes. I know my 3 year old will hurt something with it, so I haven't done it in front of her yet. But I do play with my sets sometimes. I like swooshing the TIE Fighter around and I love playing with Shelob. But for the most part I only display the sets or MOC into other structures. I collect some of the boxes because the box art can be really neat. I'm sure once I run out of space for the boxes, I'll start recycling the least favorites. -
Where do Rare/HTF Parts come from?
TheLegoDr replied to Turaga of Force's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have a few of those, but bricklink only lists them as averaging $1.85 for new and $0.47 for used (which mine would be). As rare as they may or may not be, I don't find that to be valuable. Unless I am missing something. But some sets may be more sought after even though they aren't that rare, and some pieces may be rare, but people aren't wanting them. The world works in funny ways. But there are plenty of pieces that only come in one set. With that said, outside of some collectors, I don't know how much the older color scheme appeals to a lot of people since the creation of the new color wheel (the stone gray, other shades of brown, etc.) I'll have to keep my eye out for rare/valuable pieces. I'm probably sitting on a gold mine, or I probably broke those pieces as a child
