LDD Bike Rider Template
TheLegoDr replied to Nachapon Bricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I don't laugh out loud very often, but seeing Darth on a pink bicycle is laugh out loud worthy. Simply brilliant. I guess Anakin did have a softer side to him at one time. Maybe it was his unknown sister's bike. And his sister is also trained in the ways of the Jedi. Fan fiction anyone??? -
This is brilliant. I really like the similarities between the two playsets. I think you captured the essence perfectly. My most favorite part (as simple as it is) is the use of bricks and plates to add some texture to the walls. And with just enough dark bley thrown in to complement it. I didn't realize the bricks/plates would stand out that much, I will definitely use that in the future for my Hogwarts build. So thank you for that. That is brilliant. Otherwise, I really like the whole scene. The sliding jail door makes a lot of sense. Keep up the good work!

This is a really neat contest. I only came across the contest today, so I never built up a female warrior. I don't think I will in time, but I may come up with someone anyway (for fun, not for the contest). I like the idea of a female assassin. Probably why I loved Kill Bill so much, or Lady Vengeance. It will be neat seeing what everyone comes up with. I really should have paid more attention to the Guilds. I haven't had time since it all began when I signed up. It really has become something with a lot of great stories/builds. Everyone should be proud of how far they have come. Keep up the good work everyone and good luck in the contest!

Done. It was surprisingly shorter than I imagined. It will be interesting how LEGO uses the results.

Lego 7946 Kingdoms Castle - Modified
TheLegoDr replied to Lego Ghost's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That is brilliant. I don't have any issues with baseplates. I really like the older castles and this fits perfectly on a baseplate. Keep up the good work! I may have to consider something similar. -
That is simply brilliant. It looks exactly as I would expect a LEGO version to look. The shape and details mesh well together. I may have to try to build my own version. There are too many nice MOCs that I wouldn't mind copying to ever actually get around to making any.

Lego Haunted House with a twist
TheLegoDr replied to steelwoolghandi's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Nice mods! I also planned on rebuilding the set as a complete home instead of a condemned property, but I was keeping the original color scheme. Your revamp blows mine out of the water. Keep up the good work. My one complaint (and this may be perfectly accurate to Victorian homes), but I don't care for the black/white columns on the porch. I prefer a single color scheme there. And I might do a slightly different trim color to offset the white windows. But that is just what I plan on doing with my own. Your version is very well done. I can't wait to see the interior! -
Problem with LEGO Replacement Parts
TheLegoDr replied to chongcheng's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The big issue being a business they don't want to be taken advantage of. I've had many replacement part requests over the last year that they simply quit replacing them (probably because they think I am trying to take advantage of them instead of TLG just having more QC issues these days). I can only assume many people aren't complaining, therefore it seems odd when certain individuals do complain multiple times. Maybe some of the pieces don't crack for others. I have yet to see my Iron Man crack, but I've had issues with Star Wars printing. I think they are more hesitant when it comes to Licensed, just because they have more money invested in that pot, so a bigger loss is at stake. I would say be persistent if you really want/need the replacements, but I don't see them budging too easily. I eventually just quit responding to them and if I get faulty parts I guess I will just deal with it. Which is unfortunate. -
What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars sets?
TheLegoDr replied to Loco de Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm a new SW collector/fan. I only began getting LEGO SW this year with this winter wave thanks to May the Fourth promotion. So I really only have what is available now, but out of the sets I currently own, I really like the 2012 TIE Fighter. It is very swooshable. But out of the other sets that I don't currently own, I may have to say one of the AT-ATs would do nicely. Something about a giant mechanical camel that is appealing. -
Well thank you for the responses so far. I think he could look really Spanish, personally, but I'm not a proper historian. The actor does look good with the gold body armor and the gold morion. But he also looks really good with just a gold morion, or a gold morion and the gold epaulettes. So I don't know how accurate the epaulettes are, but I like how it looks. The pearl gold and the dark green work really well together. But looking at that review, I really like the actor body with the black beard and bearskin hat. I may have to try that out too sometime. I just love that dark green and pearl gold combo on that actor torso.

I agree about HH looking better elevated. It does add something to the build. Plus the foliage around the house really brings out the condemnable look to it all. Market Street is neat that you can alter the floors to face different directions, but I'm not sure how much I like the blank wall for the first two floors, especially on a corner like that. But it is definitely something different than I've seen. Keep up the good work.

This is a really neat build. I like the arches at the lower level and the cobble-flooring. I like how you incorporated the many shields, shows some peace for once. The dark red and tan is beautiful together. Keep up the great work.

I will definitely be building something similar to that Vintage Sedan! These are some beautiful MOCs and I love seeing classic cars translated to LEGO for my citizens. Keep up the great work. I will keep checking back, that's for sure.

Problem with LEGO Replacement Parts
TheLegoDr replied to chongcheng's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There probably are certain pieces that can't be replicated, or replicated too easily. Also, they probably don't want to be taken advantage of as a company so they may be hesitant about sending out multiple replacement parts to one individual. I have purchased a lot of LEGO within the last year and have had multiple issues with printing or damaged/missing pieces and they have made me jump through many hurdles to get my pieces, so much to the point that I quit complaining about the stuff and am just dealing with damaged pieces because it is too far common of a problem. So I'm sure as a business they are hesitant about giving out replacement parts even though their QC is suspect. But depending on the mold/print, I'm sure they may have some trouble getting a replica for that if none are in stock and they can't/won't do any more just for one person. At least they gave you something as a replacement to make up for it. They basically told me tough luck. -
PsyKater I would expect it to still be available. If they still have Fire Brigade, I would imagine MMV will still exist in stock. I assume that came out as the 2010 D2C set, so I would expect it to be available at least through the holidays until the next D2C becomes available. At the very least they could maybe get some holiday sales with it still being available this close to the holidays. But my opinion holds no bearing to what TLG decides to do. I've gambled before and missed out on things by waiting too long, and then other times it worked out better (as in getting more VIP points, or shipping deal, etc.) So is it worth the gamble to you? Personally I would wait, but I am not waiting on any sets that could go out of production soon, so I can afford to wait a little longer on the Joust and whatnot. Mandarine Even though it is ridiculously expensive (but you get a lot with it), go for the Death Star. That should cover all of your needs with multiple characters and an iconic playset. Otherwise, I would recommend Luke's Landspeeder since it is out of production or soon to be and it has a lot of iconic characters. As far as Darth goes, I don't think it is too easy to find him in a cheap set, so maybe Bricklink him. I am still waiting on the right set to get him in since I don't want to spend multiple hundreds on a set for him.

I agree that it would be foolish to end this LOTR end of the license, but maybe sales have stagnated a little. Looking on Amazon Best Sellers at #35 is Mines of Moria and the next is #51 with Gandalf Arrives. So only two sets in the top 51, whereas the remainder is almost exclusively Friends and Ninjago. So it is possible that isn't an indicator of overall sales since I don't know store numbers or S@H numbers, but that doesn't look too promising. The rest are #61 Shelob, #83 Uruk-Hai Army (which is surprising to me), and then #93 Helm's Deep rounding out the top 100 LEGO sets. I highly doubt LOTR would be an "evergreen" Licensed theme like Star Wars, but I doubt they would only get one wave out of LOTR with all of the new molds created and figures they could release. I realize PoP and POTC had similar issues, but I would imagine POTC will have a new resurgence whenever the next film comes out. Plus they used some of the pieces in the Town Hall, so maybe other themes could benefit from LOTR molds too. I would expect it to continue for a while. But if not, then maybe after Christmas clearance deals can be had on Uruk-Hai army! That's how I accumulated lots of the Escape from Dragon's Prison set at half-off last year.

That is a beautiful little build. I love seeing smaller MOCs of grander places. I've really been getting into mini-building, so this is impressive. Keep up the great work.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I do agree that Batman is my most favorite Super Hero, but I can understand the frustration of some people who aren't fans. Since there is such a large arsenal of villains, they need to introduce many sets of each figure basically, which then can be too much for each wave, so they are probably going with what is popular right now while trying to throw in a few unique figures to make up for it. I don't particularly care for Spiderman or the animated series it is based on, but I like seeing these other figures being created. So if it takes me getting a few extras Spidermen, then let it be so. I can't wait for TDKR set come December! -
I am excited for this theme. I've been wanting a resurgence of the Western theme, even if it is licensed. The only downside to licensed to me is the price (that's why I look for sales). I can't wait to see official pictures. All of the new pieces introduced will be really neat.

I also like how Grand Emporium is positioned. It cuts off the sidewalks, but it fits in differently than normal. That gives me an idea to build a more L-shaped corner building to go around a corner like that, with just a small patch of sidewalk in the front. Brilliant! Thanks for the idea! I'm still not sold on the Haunted House with the other Modulars, but this at least doesn't connect it with the others. This could potentially work, if it wasn't on a different scale to the Modulars. One house as big as the Town Hall.

Since I am into so many different themes, I am actually very thankful for LEGO City. If they produced anything other than Police/Fire, then I might actually want to spend my money there also and that would definitely break the bank . But I do suppose the Friends theme adds in a lot of other ideas for buildings any city needs, only in bright "girly" colors. I'm sure AFOLs and younger girls are appreciating the colors used in the Friends line, but you can have a cafe and a vet clinic in normal colors instead of bright pinks/blues. As far as a cheap wheelbarrow, that would be great to come in a set you already plan on buying, but I just bought one from PAB on S@H because I didn't want the actual set it came in this year. It was like $1.00.

I finally picked up some of the new conquistadors in series 8. I know people are against the gold armor/morion, but I think it looks great. My question is two-fold. Would the actor be a good addition to a Spanish army? Obviously I would take away the collar ruff and add a morion instead of the long hair. My next question is, did the Spanish use epaulettes? The pearl gold looks awesome on the dark green torso with the pearl gold morion. I'm not super authentic/realistic when it comes to LEGO, but I am curious as to how realistic that may or may not have been. If any better scholars know, thanks in advance!

REVIEW: 8833 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 8
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I can tell the subtleties of Blu-ray and standard definition DVD (my wife can't). The only reason I bring that up, I could hardly tell that there was any pink-white coloring on my Santas or my Pirate captain. I think I could notice the problems with pink-white on some of the Kingdoms torsos so I know what I am looking for. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe it wasn't as bad as people were making it out to be? Anyway, I love this series. I should have all of the figures I want/need now. Only took two trips with a toddler at Target to do it. I still need another Fairy since they are impossible to find here. But if you want a DJ or a Cheerleader, they are plentiful. -
We always buy up all of the polybags that are available at wal-mart/target for stocking stuffers for me. Sometimes it is just a fun little way to get more LEGO. I'll have to see if/when/what becomes available around here this holiday season. But these do not disappoint.

Let's see how many movies I can watch and post about, jeesh. I watched American Reunion the other day. I thought it was a nice "conclusion?" to the series. At least, I hope it was a conclusion. I was a freshman in high school when the first one came out so I could connect with the people a little easier probably. And now that it has been 13 years later and they were doing a reunion (my 10 year reunion was this summer) I was again able to connect with the characters. To a point, I knew what they were experiencing so it probably made the movie more believable to me. They didn't go for all the gross out gags like they did in the beginning, so that was refreshing. They did have some uncomfortable scenes, but it wasn't as often. I thought it added a little something to the series, but I wouldn't go out and buy it anytime soon. Rank 3.5/5 probably.
