LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 8 poll
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I chose Shakespeare because of the awesome printing and neck ruffle. A super close second would be the conquistador. I didn't army build at all with the last series, but I can see a few possibilities this time. I do enjoy seeing the new ideas and prints/accessories TLG offers with these sets, so I do hope they continue to go down this road. I think there are a lot more possibilities out there, but how much of that TLG wants to use is tough to say. They will continue to rehash/recolor older figures/molds to give a counterpart (and to eat up another slot in the series), while also reusing molds to get their money's worth. With that said, I think as many new ideas they have, there will not be a consistently "must have them all" feel anymore. At least, not for me. Granted I don't own any complete sets, so that probably won't change. But I could foresee wanting fewer and fewer in the future series, while still wanting some. There will always be something that appeals to me. I can't wait to see if my feelings change after I see this and future series. -
But a circus would help out the need for many new animal molds! No Lego animals were hurt in the making of this product. Not to downplay any animal cruelty made by individuals, but as unfortunate as it is in the real world, a Lego circus would not harm any animals and children do not know/realize that those animals may or may not be mistreated. They go to a good show and see things they normally wouldn't see, therefore they could create a little world/show with their Lego figures. With that said, I would like to see a more early 1910s-40s theme for the gangster or English trader. Something to show a more classic City look, especially with new ideas for vintage looking automobiles. I normally don't care about city, but I would welcome that in a heartbeat. Even move it a few decades earlier to include the Sherlock detective. As much as I would like 1930s/40s vehicles, I would also welcome more elaborate horse drawn carriages.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Actually one is red and one is dark red, so that might be what they meant by not swappable. They are very different shades. And I would highly doubt the conquistador would come with an extra plume since that particular piece doesn't come on a sprue, unlike the classic smaller feather from days past in the Bavarian set. Although it looks like from photos that there are two separate feathers, without a sprue. Either way, I would welcome that. -
Interesting build and original idea. I'm not in love with the color scheme, but I really like the overall shape of the building. I think I like the steeple-like design in the middle the most. The coloring for that works great. I really like the awnings and the poles holding them up. The interior is clever. Good seating designs. I like the concession area. I've only been to one opera and I don't really remember the concession area, but maybe I just walked by it during intermission. Either way, the designs look great. I may have to "borrow" some of those for a movie theater MOC I will make some day. Keep up the good work. Good luck in the contest. Voting time will be difficult.

That price tag is great for the piece count, but I agree with others that the Winter Village series shouldn't break the bank every year. I liked the smaller scale. It added a more peaceful village (in my opinion). I obviously can't wait to see the pictures and more than likely I will be getting this. It will just be difficult to add yet another $100 set to the list I have yet to purchase. That fairy is exactly what I expected the CMF to be like. No wonder I was so disappointed with it. That is how it should look! I don't want a keychain fairy, so hopefully it will come in regular minifigure form as well. If it is included in the set, I will then definitely be picking it up. Thanks for the info and picture. I can't wait to see more!

What your most wanted Pirate theme ship?
TheLegoDr replied to Dr Leg O Brick's topic in LEGO Pirates
I always wanted Skull's Eye Schooner. I don't know how I don't have it since we were buying every other Pirate set at that time when it was available. I considered bricklinking the pieces and rebuilding it, then part of me wanted to mod it a bit if I was going to do that, then I just never got around to it. I have all the other main ships, but the SES slipped through. -
That is very interesting. Good find! I had no idea they were doing poorly in the early 90s. That is the time when we were buying the most Lego I think. I would've been around 10 years old when they were slumping. Granted I did quit doing Lego by 1995 due to video games and more mature activities. I didn't get back into Lego until late 2010 thanks to Harry Potter, so if they would have gone bankrupt in the early/mid 2000s I wouldn't even have known. Lego is one of those brands that you would expect to just be around forever, much like Hasbro and Mattel. It is really odd when I see classic American companies like Sears Roebuck going out of business. Either way, a good read. It's good to see they are doing better financially. Off I go to spend more money..

These looks like great projects. I would love to see more architectural pieces for historic modular or castle type MOCs. In addition to the rounded shutters/pane, I would also like to see an all glass pane for the rounded window. Anything to add variety is fine by me. Seeing these great MOCs people make without these pieces though, it may be a while before TLG decides it is worth it to make so many new molds. But best of luck to you. I hope they make the final numbers and we see these in sets in the future.
-
Neat little build. It is definitely different than the other parks and rec options. I hope the modulars don't get flooded! I really like the mini sail on the ship. Good luck in the contest! I know I have my work cut out for me.
-
The Batman pane was brilliant. I wanted to pick up that version of Bane, but I may just wait for the new version. Keep up the good work.
-
Artanis I - 1 point Praiter Yed - 1 point The Penguin - 1 point Great entries all around. I didn't enter because I knew I wouldn't have a shot. Very clever ideas people. Good luck.
-
That turned out really well. I surprisingly like the dark blue cheese slopes with the dark red wall. The windows look great and the front door looks brilliant. A corner building may be the only one that could truly pull off a smaller stature. It may look too out of place in between two larger buildings. Good luck in the contest. I know there is some good competition this go round.
-
I really like the interior details! Nicely done. Good luck in the contest.
-
I love mini scale. Great little build. A lot of detailing. It is beautiful for sure. You should be proud.
-
Great build! Overall some really tough competition. Hopefully I can get my act together and finish it, but it will be tough when it is time to vote! I really like the interior shot of the skylight walkway with the overhead lighting. Brilliant. That shot alone makes me want to vote for yours. I do like the roofing angle, of which I thought about doing similarly for my own Modular. I couldn't decide between a flat front or a angled roof top. I think I will go with the latter thanks to looking at yours. The detailing around the front upper windows isn't quite what I was going for, but surprisingly similar. Needless to say I think it looks spectacular. Good luck in the contest.

I have both versions of Hulk and I think overall I like the larger one. I haven't opened the smaller one yet, so I can't say how much I like that one comparatively. I know my 2 year old daughter loves "the big green guy," if that says anything. She likes to carry him around. And she used to really like the Hagrid figure. I think there should be more Hagrid sized figures.

Quick Pic Review: 6873 Spider-Man's Doc Ock Ambush
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Maybe they did this Spiderman this way without some of the printing because of the sets coming out next year. They will retool him a bit to make people want to buy those sets with a new "exclusive" figure?? I just know people hate getting multiples of some characters so Iron Man, Thor, and Spiderman having multiple versions of themselves in such a short amount of time may make some people unhappy and not want to buy the more expensive sets. Any thoughts? -
Thanks for the review. I was needing to look at stuff before I considered getting it. I don't particularly care for the sub (or most SW ships that is) but I think TLG did a great job with the source material. It looks as close to it as I would perceive them doing. The overall pieces aren't of much use for me, but I might be surprised when it comes time to build something. I don't own any of the figures, so that is a big draw for me. Of course, Amidala is beautiful, but I've been wanting a Qui-Gon and young Obi for a while (although my favorite Obi is from this year's Anikan set). I just looked at bricklink and it would be over $50 just for the figures (without shipping from different sellers), so I might as well just buy the whole set for not much more and TLG receives the money directly. Otherwise I would pass for sure due to the cost. I will have to just wait for a sale. Thanks again. The pictures looked great. I just watched TPM within the last few months to gear up for SW community builds, so I remember this well.

Quick Pic Review: 6873 Spider-Man's Doc Ock Ambush
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the pictures. I mostly want the figures, but the pieces may come in handy for something else. Although, I didn't realize Harry Potter was actually Doc Ock in disguise! -
I don't love the clone brands, but I have seen some interesting molds used that TLG do not have. It really does depend on which clone brand you are talking about because I have some early 90s Tyco blocks and Megablocks that have awesome clutching power and no problems with color variation or yellowing effect over the years, yet "they are an inferior product." There are some terrible brands out there and then there is some decent competition. TLG has done a great job at marketing and they come out on top as far as overall product satisfaction and customer service. However, I have had some crappy Lego bricks all the same. So who knows, I suppose there is such loyalty to a brand that people won't buy another one just because it is their competitor. Some people will only buy Ford vehicles, whereas others absolutely hate that brand. I have loyalty, but never that fiercely I guess. I want the best, whatever that may be.

Thanks for the replies earlier. I did mean hot weather here in the USA, that's why my wife wanted to move up north because it should/could be a little cooler overall. I like the idea of free health care for sure. I assume that is only available for citizens, but what about people with work visas? Either way, I doubt we will be moving, but we definitely want to visit a few places. I've heard that Canada is nicer overall. I've always been told to go to Niagara Falls on the Canada side because it is beautiful and the American side is very touristy. Anyway, thanks for the replies. I don't want to pay more for Lego that's for sure.

Another reason why I'm hesitant to just buy minifigures from bricklink/eBay instead of the actual set. Sometimes I don't want the full set, but I'd hate to support a thief financially. I haven't seen any bogus UPCs around here, but I have seen opened packages with random lego pieces on the ground before. I picked them up and put them on the shelf, but I was in a hurry so I didn't have the time to talk to anyone. That is, if I would have even been able to. They always seem to disappear when I need the most help.

Thestral I say go for it. I would love to have all 4 of the SDCC exclusives, but I'm not dying to have them necessarily. Not for those prices. But you have a lot of back story and a connection to that specific character. I just want them for a collection. So I would say you "deserve" the figure more than I would. If you can spend that money without any repercussions elsewhere in your daily life, then I say go for it. If it is going to make a bill late or you want other things too that cost the same amount, you might want to rethink it a little. I can all but guarantee they will release Jean Grey in the future, but more than likely not the green phoenix variant. She may be one of the other phoenix versions though. Or they could just change the printing color a little and it will still not be like the exclusive. There are ways around it for TLG to still release these figures in the future. It all depends on if you want to part with that much money on one figure. I'm hesitant to do that even though I could technically afford it. SpiralSJ That was the only Avengers set I passed on because you get so many repeat figures it didn't justify the cost for me. I've heard the build/end product is really nice, so I guess it depends on if you want figures more or a swooshable vehicle. Thor is coming in a polybag so you will be able to get him really cheap. Iron Man is in a really cheap set (just a slightly different armor variant) if you wanted Iron man and didn't care about which armor it was. The only real exclusive figure is Black Widow which isn't anyone's favorite as far as I can tell. If you can afford it and don't mind these other things, then go for it. ryanoliono Well, that depends on what themes you like the most. I really like Shelob Attacks from Lord of the Rings. It looks like it is around 20. Otherwise, I would recommend Wolverine's Chopper Showdown because of the nice characters there. Plus the motorcycle is really neat compared to the classic Lego version and the chopper is pretty decent in a beautiful dark red.

Minifigures Series 9 Guessing Game
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Here is my list. I didn't guess the last time around, so I thought I would give my hand at it here. 1. Lion suit guy. They seem to want to have some animal people every now and who better than the king of the jungle. I would like to see the head similar to that of Luna Lovegood's in the new Harry Potter game. Maybe add in the butcher's steak as an accessory. 2. 1700/1800s judge with gavel and powdered wig. 3. Guy with toga and scroll 4. Female elf. Maybe with a sword or amulet instead of a bow. I'd like one with longer hair in yellow skin, but an evil elf might be nice to see sometime too. That would just change the color of the skin unfortunately (most likely). 5. Female flight attendant in uniform with tray. 6. Friar Tuck type with bald patch on head similar to one of the new Hobbit molds. Maybe a mug as an accessory because those friars loved to drink. 7. Davy Crockett type with hat and rifle. 8. Female beekeeper. Could have a hazmat similar helmet. A net or small beehive shape as accessory. 9. Bride of Frankenstein. Not the best timing since Halloween is so far away from this release date, but if they don't release her in the Monster Fighters series, this would be a good place to do it. 10. Different baseball player/team. Might be better for series 10 due to Opening Day ceremonies. Mitt instead of bat similar to the boxing glove. 11. Different boxer, maybe black trunks/gloves. He could be the "evil" boxer and since GB Olympics has the blue boxer, why not add another color. 12. "Aladdin" type with fez hat and printed open vest with bare chest underneath. Maybe some stolen food for an accessory. I would say lamp, but that would be silly since the genie has that. Throw in anther monkey mold instead I guess. 13. Grandma for the little visitor to visit. Maybe a cane accessory. 14. Violinist female. Violin could be neat to fit in the official case, but that might be too small/detailed. 15. Faun like Mr. Tumnus to go with the fantasy Minotaur. 16. Torero. Only we don't want any animals injured. Just the outfit and a red blanket could look neat. We'll see what happens with the next series. I need to save up money with all these great themes coming out at that same time. -
You received an allowance? Nice. I never had any money growing up so the sales would've been lost on me anyway. But I do think it is a bit silly having another Frodo (if you buy the complete line), but if you only buy one set, you may only want one little Frodo figure and call it good. I usually am an army builder, but I don't plan on buying any or that many of the Uruk polybag. If it were an elf poly I would easily buy up multiples though. Funny how that works.
