Lego "Brick Friday" Exclusive VIP Access Event!
TheLegoDr replied to mostlytechnic's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Nice haul. I wonder if you get the 50% off card is it only on that order or could you continue to shop after you scratched it to end up spending what you originally would have (only now with twice as much stuff!). Because that is what I would do. -
I agree about the letter bricks. There are those letter tiles in the business card holder set, which I haven't found for sale anywhere. But that might be one way to do it. Or maybe that is why they released that recently to give people letters for the Cinema. I would assume a Cinema would be big, but they probably will only have one screen, so it might not be that big after all. And I also like the idea of some smaller buildings that you can throw in somewhere. I loved the Pet Shop, but I didn't care for the townhouse color (the building itself is neat). But I liked the ability to place them in different areas of the layout instead of always a 32 space by 32 space.

I'm not liking Splinter that much either. His head mold fits perfectly as it how it should look, but there is something unappealing to me about it. But then again, I'm not really digging on the Chima mask pieces either, so maybe it's the awkward snout or something. Either way, the other figures are looking good. Crazy how high that auction is for the main group when just buying the sets to complete them would probably be less than that and you'd get more!

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
TheLegoDr replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree about Back to the Future. Even if it did get approved and the license acquired, they may still want to wait until 2015 for the marketing aspect. That decision may upset a few people now, but in a few years people would be able to obtain it and forget all about this review process. That's just speculation on my part though. It's interesting about CUUSOO in general that LEGO seems to be releasing so many great themes and sets as it is, let alone asking for more ideas from fans. It will probably help grow the company if they know exactly what people want. But fads change so what wins today may not be (as) popular when it actually could become available. -
The 'Golden Age' of Lego, is it now?
TheLegoDr replied to Hey Joe's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I didn't know they were doing that poorly in the 90s. My main collection was 89-94, so as a kid I didn't realize if sales were down or not. I just liked getting sets. Clearly looking back at those sets in design some are still great to look at and some don't hold up as well. I do really like the licenses they are getting and the new printing and pieces that are available. Things are looking fantastic. The only downside is sometimes trying to incorporate some of the older less detailed figures with the newer figures. -

Review: 79001 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders
TheLegoDr replied to Big Cam's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The pictures in the review don't seem to appear (but they did in the Warg review), but I was able to view them on flickr directly. Thanks for the pictures. It was nice seeing everything at different angles. I can't wait for some of the pieces and the figures, of course. I was liking how almost all of the figures could go either yellow or licensed skin tone. The new hair molds are awesome too. I'm surprised how well the pants interchange between Legolas and Tauriel. And a ginger elf especially one modeled after Evangeline. I do agree that the last weapon picture looks dark brown, but in the other action shots the bow looks reddish-brown, so it is probably just lighting. Thanks again for the review. I can't wait to pick this up.- 77 replies

This set looks awesome. I love big trees for some reason. I'm not sure if I will actually build this one, but it looks neat and has some nice play features. Maybe a good place for my Forestmen. I love the dwarves and more orcs! I like how the torsos can be used across themes with yellow or licensed skin tone. And Yazneg could also be a form of a zombie for those post-apoc MOCers. Thanks for the review. I will definitely pick it up, but again will probably wait for a sale. I'm liking this theme a lot!

Review: 79001 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders
TheLegoDr replied to Big Cam's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for the review. Flickr must be down currently because none of the pictures are working for me. So I will just check back to view them. But I am excited for this set. More elves are always welcome. The spider bags are a neat idea. I doubt I will use them for much since I don't play with my sets. I normally just collect the figures and use the pieces for MOCs. Dark red leaves are going to be awesome. Finally some new colors for other seasons. I will probably wait for a sale since I've been trying to budget more, but for a Licensed set, I think it is a fair price.- 77 replies

No More Elrond Minifigures Available?!?
TheLegoDr replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
That must be why "none are available" since that came out long enough ago. I would definitely say it is a dark blue cape depicted on the packaging. The main problem is a tiny cape will look weird and Elrond has dark blue on his torso resembling part of the cape, so you can't just switch to another color that looks okay. I would definitely pick one of those up, but I had no idea they would be over $3 for a used and $4 for new. I guess I'll have to just make my own sometime. But I agree, they should just apologize instead of saying that it was never intended to have a long cape.- 146 replies

It's worse being a squib than a muggle, that's for sure. I hadn't thought about Thor looking like another minifigure. I don't particularly care for the Boromir head, so I may have to change that sometime. Thanks for the funnies. I like seeing them. How you come up with so many so often baffles me.

I don't know much about the source material, but I would say Krell looks like he belongs under the sea with Spongebob for some reason. I'm not into CW so I won't be getting that set, but I was curious how they would do another 4 armed figure. Something about this doesn't seem to mesh that well together though. I do like his torso without the add-on.

Thanks for posting the link back to last year's contest. I was at a blank at first, but I think I may have something in mind now. Off to work!

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 9 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to muscleman's topic in Special LEGO Themes
So far they look great, which means the rest of the series will probably look great. Good for TLG to keep the interest up, but bad for my money clip (since I don't carry a wallet). I hope there aren't any good army builders, although the heroic knight might be a good one. I almost army built the evil knight, but then I didn't in the end and I don't regret it. -
No More Elrond Minifigures Available?!?
TheLegoDr replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I received a short cape also. I contacted LEGO and they said the cover art is wrong and they never intended to make long blue capes. They basically said they coudln't help me and that they were sorry. I'm not sure how a taller person would want to wear a tiny cape. I guess I'll either make a custom or find a custom dark blue cape for my Elrond then.- 146 replies

I'm sorry that happened Gryphon Ink. That is a terrible. My wife is the same way. We actually call that part of her B***h Jena because she gets stuff done. I'm glad your wife got it sorted out. I hate it when people steal, I don't understand the need. I thought for sure I felt victim of that also yesterday. I ordered Millennium Falcon 7965 from wal-mart since it was so cheap and I had a wal-mart gift card to bring the price down to $65 instead of $139.99, so I'm game. Well, it is only available as a site-to-store (which I assume their stocks are being depleted then) and I ordered it at multiple wal-marts in the area, only to have all of them say it was canceled because they didn't have enough in stock (even though the website said it was available at that store), so when I finally found a wal-mart I could pick it up at (almost an hour away, mind you) I was super excited. I get there and the lady brings it out of the back and lays it front down on the counter asking if it looks like the right product. I said yes and I was excited so I didn't think anything of it. I take it home and realize the front of the box has this huge gash in it, just big enough for a hand to reach in and take out bags. There is no way the lady behind the counter didn't see it and I suspect that is why she put it face down on the counter to hide it from me, probably because she didn't want to deal with it. I went through the package and thanks to Future74's EB review, I was able to determine the appropriate number of bags and thankfully all of the figures were there! The box is destroyed though and I typically like to keep the box for the cover art. But I am relieved that it was just the box ruined.

Back to the LEGO world after a LONG hiatus.
TheLegoDr replied to NotTheDroidYoureLookingFor's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think everything has been summed up pretty well. Also, if you really want figs you can try www.bricklink.com or sometimes ebay, but I've mostly seen better deals on things on bricklink. Something to consider. I only got into LEGO SW this year so I had a lot of catching up to do. And I just got the Falcon today and it looks awesome. Welcome back to the hobby. You'll be sorry . It eats up a lot of your bank account, especially when getting back into it. -
I'm not loving the mask pieces for the most part. The lions seem to work okay. The eagle/ravens are so-so, but I didn't care for the wolf at all. As far as under the mask, I really like the lions head printing! The birds are pretty decent too, but again was really disappointed with the wolves. I probably won't get too many of this theme, but I'm liking the Lions and the birds so far (which is odd since I normally root for the baddies).

There sure are a lot of new head molds this year. TLG is definitely trying to up their game with 2013 themes. With that said, I guess I'm not into Space enough to want any of these. I will wait to see the actual sets. The figures do look nice with some nice head shapes and printing, but I don't know if I would be able to use them for much in my collection.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 9 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to muscleman's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is shaping up to be an awesome series. So far reading descriptions I would surely pass on a lot, but seeing pictures I now want all 3 shown so far (and I'm not into Space). I was expecting an animal suit person, but I was really hoping for a Lion (to make a custom Luna Gryffindor figure), but with Chima coming out Lions probably weren't the go to animal. But this chicken suit person is awesome. I bet the pants might be printed to look like big yellow feet, but I doubt they would have a different shape to them. Thanks for showing pictures everyone. -
I assumed those were LOTR torsos, but I couldn't tell for sure. They work very well, at least in the scale that I see them. I may have to look into that. Thanks for sharing.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
It's amazing what people will pay to get these figures early. Even if you don't want the full set and just want the figure, it'd still be cheaper to wait a month and buy the whole set, especially with Venom. But to each their own. I do agree about the wrap around printing. It does seem odd they would do it with a Lobot figure in a $9.99 set, but not these other figures in more expensive sets. I would disagree with Bane having a new mask mold. I think it might look too big as fine as the straps actually are. Plus it is cheaper for them to just print a head. However, I was pleasantly surprised with Iron Man's helmet (after seeing it in person) so it might have looked okay. -
No More Elrond Minifigures Available?!?
TheLegoDr replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I picked up my 360 game yesterday and the person behind the counter almost didn't give me the figure. I asked what about the figure and he said oh yeah. Were you not going to do it if you didn't get a figure, and I said yeah I would return it right here. But in the end I did get a figure and the game, so that is awesome. My question now is do I open it or keep it sealed. I won't resell or anything, but I seem to keep figures in polybags for some reason. I have multiple TC-14s and the Hulk still in polybag and I will be getting Darth Maul soon enough. As far as multiple Elronds, it isn't possible, at least here. They said they will give them out to anyone who buys the game, not just preorders and they wouldn't sell any individually. He also said they try to give them away to kids (because I guess adults can't like LEGO). And since I don't need two copies of the game, I might as well not worry about it. I don't need 2 anyway.- 146 replies

Love this! The exteriors look great and simple. Very realistic. The interiors are amazing. I love the thicker walls to accommodate the different color schemes inside, very realistic. Not that LEGO is realistic, but you did a great job with this. Sometimes I find it funny on Modulars that the whole building is one color, but it's the joy of LEGO. I also really like the lamp posts. Keep up the great work. I'd love to see more. I may have to borrow some of this also.
