  1. Congrats. Welcome aboard. Thanks for the regulating.
  2. I would certainly welcome a new men's suit variation. I didn't budget for it at the time, but the build a minifigure at LEGO brand retail stores had lots of suit tops in the bin. I ended up buying heads and hats mostly, but I considered getting a few more suits. Maybe at my next visit if they still have any I will pick some up.
  3. Donuts could easily be a recolored Lord of the Rings ring. Bam, done! And I do agree that if children are only exposed to one thing, then that is how they will think. But that doesn't have anything to do with series 9 CMF. A male hairstylist would be a great addition. If you really want to get into an argument, then look at this year's hospital with a male doctor and the CMF series female nurse. Same idea. My daughter went as a doctor for halloween. Easily distinguishable as a doctor, yet a few people asked if she was a nurse. I guess it is just people's exposure to things. A gay or straight minifigure isn't going to change anything. I guess I hadn't considered any of my toys to be gay or straight. They are just what they are. And I don't picture the Hippie head to have crossed eyes or anything simulating them being high, but the automatic assumption (on my part is someone dressed like that probably partakes in that hobby) and it is just a little fun by TLG for the fans out there. Look at Disney Pixar Cars with the VW van. Same concept. He acts hippie-ish, but doesn't guarantee he is getting high all the time. But it is an assumption by the majority and that adds to the humor.
  4. Won't 2015 be a huge year? It seems there is an Avatar, Pirates, Hunger Games, Avengers, Justice League?, Ant Man, and then Star Wars. Potentially a lot of competition that year for SW, so I would imagine they were already planning something by the time they said that release date. Especially with editing and CGI these days. We'll wait and see.
  5. These are amazing. I'm bewildered how someone can paint with such a steady hand. One could almost swear it is a decal or officially printed! Amazing work. I can't wait to see more. I am in no way a customizer, so I am very impressed when someone has the skill to do it like this.
  6. I have yet to buy a discontinued set. There are many sets I want from my youth that would be discontinued now, but I haven't came around to making a full-fledged purchase. I agree that bricklinking certainly can be cheaper in the long run, but it isn't always easier. It is nice to have the original box/instructions/pieces, but at the same time making small substitutions aren't always glaringly obvious. I was bricklinking Cafe Corner and Green Grocer, but then I stopped due to lack of time. But I came across the dark red roofing of CC from LEGO so that is one of the biggest things to switch. I don't really like the dark blue usage in CC, so I was going to change all of that anyway. So comparing a used CC vs bricklinked CC, I think I'll be safe to to the latter, but no it won't be a complete discontinued set. So in regard to the topic, no.
  7. I will agree on that last part. CGI can be used really well, but it needs to be more seamless with reality to allow further attachment to the movie's characters/scenes. I think CGI is great and we live in a time where movies are ridiculous, but at the same time, if it can only be done in CGI with no sense of realism, it can be lost in the shuffle.
  8. I really love the sand green and sand blue houses, but all look brilliant. I love the techniques used. And I especially love the studded roof. Most people tile or slope brick it, but I like the larger studded plates for roofing. Keep up the great work. These are awesome.
  9. That is a neat potential list. I'm hoping the prices aren't that high though otherwise I may have to skip out on some. I mean, TreeBeard with a few figures for $60?? I realize the piece count may be higher than normal, but still that seems a bit high. I'd be interested to see the other 5 sets then (if there really are 8).
  10. I knew I'd like the bird faction. They are looking really neat. I actually really like Eris. We need more female minifigures (even if they are avian). I was unsure of this theme, but I definitely wouldn't mind picking up some of the Eagle/Raven sets. I won't follow the story at all, just pick up a few here and there that interest me. I'll wait and see how the Lions look. I think I'll end up getting the good guys in this theme even though I prefer to align myself with the baddies.
  11. I saw someone posted a while ago about being unsure of LOTR in 2013. To alert them, someone did post an ad saying the journey continues in 2013. Obviously not details are known, just that the theme continues. I'm excited for what is to come. I would say my wallet will be hurting, but I'm not sure yet. If there are some nice army building packs, then yes it will be hurting, otherwise I probably won't go too crazy for sets next year. I think I've already spent less this year than last year, which I didn't think would be possible.
  12. I haven't read a lot of the previous posts since it was 8 pages for me. But here goes.. I think this is a good idea. I'm not a huge SW fan anyway and I only got into SW LEGO this year, but I think getting some fresh ideas could be good. All we can do is wait for more news and see how the movies turn out. Yes, I'm sure it is a big cash cow so they want a piece of that pie. As far as LEGO sets go, that will depend on how the movies turn out. A lot of people are buying the PT and CW sets, so it might not matter as much. I agree that the original cast would be "too old" for the parts now, but they were trying to perfect the CGI technology back in X3: Last Stand to give Patrick Stewart/Ian McKellen a much younger look. No it wasn't perfect, but it is plausible to do that. I would prefer them to get new actors though in the long run and maybe bring in new characters. But I read that they wanted to continue the adventures of Han/Luke/Leia, probably to cash in on familiar stories already. EDIT: I just read this article stating that Lucas had an idea for Ep VII back when they made the originals and that he wanted Mark Hamill to be in it because it was set 30 years into the future from Ep VI. Thirty years from 1983 is 2013, which is near 2015, so maybe they will reuse the original actors if they are game.
  13. I'm pretty sure there are more Halloweens after that, aren't there? I saw that one when it came out back in 1998-ish, so I couldn't be so sure, but I thought they "finished" it, but then Hollywood decided not to end it after all. As for me, my wife and I watched Mirror, Mirror last night. It was an interesting take on Snow White. I guess it was a Seik story incorporated with a Snow White story. It had a lot of more Middle Eastern elements in it compared to what I would assume European royalty of the original fairy tales. There was a rather interesting Bollywood-esque scene at the credits which prompted us to do some research to find out why and that led to the Seik storytelling. But overall, it was a decent movie and a fresh take on it all. I'd give it a 3.5-4/5.
  14. Both builds are fantastic. I actually prefer the winter's keep. Something about that jumps out at me more, but maybe it is because it is a snowy scene. Either way, very nice build. I've always loved the Wolfpack renegades and I should look into building something similar for my own factions sometime. But I agree that I wouldn't expect a full fledged castle for them, but more of a hideout within some caves/ruins. Enough shelter and protection without the comforts of the upper class. Especially with them potentially on the move quite a bit (at least in my mind). Although I guess as a wolfpack they would have a "den" so to speak. I'm going to tinker and come up with something of my own. You've inspired me.
  15. I think a lot of people are scared of building with yellow, even though it can be used appropriately. I like the sand green and I like the yellow, but I don't like them together in this build. Just my opinion. But otherwise, I like the texture and roofing. I like the archway with brickwork on the cellar level. And it might be too much green, but I liked the green/white awning combo in the original building. I may need to borrow that sometime. I've been struggling with my 16 wide for some reason. Hopefully I'll catch up to you someday. Keep up the good work.
  16. I'm always skeptical on everything until I see pictures, but even then (such as Olympics) I was still skeptical at first. But if this is the true list, I think there are some good figures on there depending on representation. The recent "trader or businessman" was a bit different than what people expected, so seeing a lot of these names could change what the actual figure is. But I think if they turn out like what I have in my head, then this will be a really good series with some potential for army building (depending, of course). I can't wait to see the official images then.
  17. I would say Best: Haldir from LOTR Worst: Skeleton from Indiana Jones. The crystal skull was nicely done, but they just placed it on a skeleton body. Not very original and in terms of overall minifigure not the best...
  18. I like Poison Hippie the most. I don't know much history, but maybe that's why Ivy was created to mirror social mainstream ideas on environmentalists? Isn't that the whole point of comics anyway?? Keep up the good work. I should try to come up with some of my own sometime.
  19. I've never heard of that set before, but since it was a NYC exclusive, that is probably why. Also, per Brickset, it came out in 2010, so it was bound to disappear soon anyway and Lady Liberty seems to be a worthy replacement. Size wise, of course not, but for a small little recognizable build, I think it fits. It also looks cheaper in price, so I assume less brick usage. And green bricks aren't super common as far as I can tell. But I agree, the apple is a much better set to get. Too bad it doesn't exist anymore, but maybe (hopefully) it'll be cheaper to bricklink . Good luck.
  20. It only matters to the sorter. I was hesitant at first with my new and old bricks, but anymore I pretty much just keep sorting by color. But since I had such a long Dark Ages, most of my new bricks are of the new palette, so I don't have that many reasons to mix any. Only black and white pretty much match and you can clearly tell which are new and which are not.
  21. This was awesome. I loved that vehicle when I was a kid. I had almost everything Turtle related back in the early 90s. I would totally buy this if it came in a set. I may have to "borrow" the idea like a few others and add it to my collection. I do think wider would be better for actual size, but I like that you have it fitting in with the rest of the official vehicles, just so it would actually fit on a street. It'd seem silly to have one 8 wide vehicle driving through the city. I don't think the turtles would be too inconspicuous in that case. Keep up the good work!
  22. I wouldn't buy anything from my phone, but it would be nice to compare prices. Although I think there is an app already that allows you to compare prices among every major retailer. But since AT&T kicked us off of their service (we were some of the last unlimited data plans grandfathered in) I haven't really used a mobile phone other than for talking.
  23. People figure, why not. One mascot reached the goal vote count, so why not another? This gator actually looks really well done also. Very fitting for LEGO brick. I like how they did the teeth/mouth area and the tail. We'll see what happens. I'm sure this won't be the last mascot project. Since I'm from Nebraska, maybe I should make a Herbie Husker and put that up! Actually he looks a lot like that LEGO mascot that was just featured on the front page, only with some slight modifications.
  24. With that animation, I really like the Croc there. I didn't like them straight on. I love that first Lion-o, Lion picture. I love Thundercats, so I am enjoying the Lion aspect of it. With the new Thundercats show this last year, I'm surprised TLG didn't follow with that. Either way, this theme isn't winning me over, but I like some of the designs. I will wait until I see better images up close, but I may end up picking up some of the cheaper sets.
  25. I've only played the games, never read any of the stories behind it, but I've enjoyed the game since 2001 when I got the first X-Box. I never even heard of it, but my friend Chris said X-Box is what you need to get and Halo will be amazing. So I took the plunge and never looked back. I got a PS2 that year also, but I didn't play it that much. It basically collects dust. But the Halo games have been well used in my household. I remember standing outside in the cold waiting for GameStop to open for the Halo 2 release. I much prefer the story to Halo, but Reach was pretty decent. I thought 2 and 3 were pretty short and I never played ODST. I doubt I will get 4 when it comes out because I don't have much time for video games these days, but if my brother-in-law gets it we'll play it to death.
