CDC1 Tower: Ssilyrrlith's Retreat - [NCW] Feathers of Fate
jtooker replied to Exetrius's topic in Guilds of Historica
Interesting color choices for this build. I like the base for the MOC with the the wonderful-yet-stark thorn bushes on the dark tan ground/rocks. The curve of the the corner wall is nice too. I really like your white brick-built bird and how it is flying next to the tower. I'd say the tower itself is too colorful. I really like the shapes you've chosen and how you tiered it, but it is harder to see that with the color changes. I like the 'neutral' background better than the faded one myself (though not the gray border) - the fading is most distracting to me than the shadows.- 20 replies

Great tale, and much lighter than the title suggests... I was waiting for the horror to start. The minifigures and their positioning are certainly the highlight of the build itself and match the story well!

As I said on flickr, terrific shapes in the architecture. You've really brought Mophet to life in my mind with all of your terrific builds. The tilework here is excellent and works well with the statues and candle platforms around the square. The trees are a terrific addition to the MOC. While I like how the coral building stands out and nicely 'divides' the other two towers, it is too bright for my taste. Overall another wonderful MOC!

I like the trees!

Great job continuing the story and linking your two CDC1 submissions. I will say I do have some questions about the people of Völsung: were they the ones making the sacrifices and living 'above ground'? The throne on the rocky platform is terrific and the numerous candles set the mood well.

I agree with @adde51, your store is captivating. I enjoyed the additional information you provided to @Grover's questions. Taking a break mid-comment to read the second part... Regarding the build itself, I like the worn rock/stone of the tower but wished the wooden parts matched the worn look. The placement of the tower itself on this rocky ridge is terrific - I can imagine the cold, mountainous land that surrounds it! The hands/arms as flags works well here for what I'd expect to be tattered flags.

I love your Kaliphlinian builds, @Gideon, and this is no exception. The dark green shrubs with the deep pink flowers are striking and look good against the (shady?) side of the tower. The balance of the nougat colors against the tan is terrific! I really like the wide circular arches and how you used the nougat bricks to decorate them so they do not appear plain.

I like the tiered rock base you created. The rock with the greenery certainly looks like southern Mitgardia. The angles you used in the tower are quite unique - I'd enjoy seeing more fortified buildings in the same style!

CDC1 Tower: Mitgardian Watchtower of Treacleheim

Great round tower. I also like the clear 1x1 with tooth representing (melting) ice. -
The sand dragon is great - both your MOC and the concept. You did an especially good job joining the three necks to the body in a very natural way.
-
Great cart! I like the colors you used, especially the balance between the blue and the black.
-
I love the dragon! Great job reimagining this set.

This town and adjacent castle is great! I'm also working on a similar setup but am far behind your progress. I appreciate the focus on landscaping that you have done. The trees are great and I like the rows of vegetables growing. I wish I lived close enough to come to your LUG's exhibition!

Some excellent spruce trees by Brick Rebel:

NPU all around! The animals are terrific.

The picture shows up for me right now. Great MOC and I agree, the lighting is well done. I really like the stone window - especially the barely visible sloped part with the light coming in from above.

Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
jtooker replied to soccerkid6's topic in Guilds of Historica
@Piobre, welcome. If you haven't, read the first post in this thread: Then create a 'sig-fig', take a picture and post it under one of the four guilds' thread (this is the Mitgardia guild's thread, see the other "Book III - xxx" threads the parent page. I'm pretty new here, so if I missed anything, hopefully someone will point it out. This was my 'joining' post in Kaliphlin (over a year ago!). -
I think the blacksmith set is better deal for parts for those of us who MOC. But this 3-in-1 castle looks terrific and will be a day 1 (in August ) purchase for me. I too am super excited about the castle sets in the Bricklink Designer program. 2021 will be the best year for LEGO castle in a long time.

Wow, great video. I didn't need convincing, but this video highlighting the design and features of the set certainly makes me more excited! I didn't realize the date had changed, thank you for pointing that out!- 532 replies

Terrific tower! I like the contrast of the dark stone against the light birch trees. I've been experimenting with trees like this and will have to try your style. The roof design looks wonderful.

CDC1 Tale: Ahesh at the Battle of the Wither Woods
jtooker replied to jtooker's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! I was happy with how those shots turned out too. I agree the high angle shots are a bit disappointing, but I felt they were unavoidable (and I was out of time to try anything else). I spent too much time on the river - which is hardly pictured since I didn't have enough pieces to make it as big as it should be. Thank you for the detailed feedback! Thanks! I'm glad the first person narrative worked well.- 5 replies

Great roof tiling - I'm not sure it would look good on a small building, but on this it looks terrific. The dark orange 'plaster' is a nice look. Having all those other pictures on your flickr is nice to see the little details you've put around the MOC (like the little tree). I cannot wait to see more of these MOCs together as a village!

I like the sides of the boat better than the front - but the dual-colored brown wood looks good. The length of the oars is great, but I agree with the flickr comments that the pitch forks don't work the best - I thought maybe they were just the 'top' of the oar and the rest (including the flat part) would be in the water, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The decorations of the ship certainly convey the amount of success this trader has achieved. The net with barrels and stuff hanging from the starboard side is my favorite part of this MOC.

I agree with @zoth33, the irregular base with roots is terrific. The simple 'hint' of a river is a good and subtle effect. I really like the large yellow flowers, which scream 'tropical', or an abundance of fertile soil. The black panther hiding it back is also a nice detail. It is fun seeing all the variety in Kaliphlin!
