  1. looks nice! always interesting to see an electric us american locomotive.
  2. As promised in my winter ski resort layout topic over on the town forum here is a detailed look at my magnetic lego train sensor. the construction looks fairly stealthy: it really only needs two wires but the other wires are for powering the 9v track. the actual sensor is underneath the brown plate. the sensor consists of stripped wires that are stuck inbetween the plate and the rail sleeper. the two wires are normally insulated from each other. the other plates are to prevent the magnet from sliding out of the sensor part. the magnet is a small round neodynium magnet. if a train runs over it it pulls that magnet up thus completing the cirquit. resetting is done via the magnet falling back down. the trains buffer magnet isnt really strong enough to pull the magnet up so i just stuck another one to the bottom that helps attract the rail magnet (this is just stuck on there magnetically no glue used). how it looks with a wagon there. the sensor isnt silent. it makes a klack sound as the magnet rises up and sticks to the top plate. a small cirquit diagram to see all the components of that system hope this helps someone!
  3. Hello guys, today i present to you my lego winter ski resort Layout. it consists of a working ski lift, lit up houses and a shuttle train with automatic reversing (details in the train tech subforum soon). everything is still very much work in progress. overview of part of the layout. i dont have that much space to work with so i only had space for a non loop track. the ski lift is fully working and has a counterweight in the top. the bottom station is the drive station. the parts lit up are the two buildings, the street light and the liftshacks and the lifts motor room. one end of the layout.there is a platform in the works for the train. the reversing switch is similar to a magnetic reed switch. hope you like it so far!
  4. nice one! you did really well with the recoloring
  5. well if you look at the lego 9v system they used to run on metal track (and still do atleast for me, megabluck batteries). you are going to be fine.
  6. i have but that doesnt leave space for the plates where people go from wagon to wagon. i am not happy with the railing currently. will change it.
  7. well i now added the details i wanted to add yesterday. looks much better now. might even consider entering it into octrainber as it is a modified regular passenger car. added the headlights and roof vents. the bottom headlights are held in via a small black tooth that is stuck inbetween the buffer beam and the platform base. the regular version looks like the rear side of this one on both sides. i added the door handle.
  8. indeed vanilla 9v doesnt work but i dont know if you can count using power pickups from a slotcar as heavy modifications. this hack is completeley destruction free and reverible: after many years of stupidly expensive motors you just get creative...
  9. Here is something different: so i decided to run train tracks in my ski resort. i dont have much space so my track is rather short. i needed a short end car. so i turned to google to see if there was an end car version of the famous "Donnerbüchse" style passenger cars. and low and behold there was one. actually multiple different ones existed. i had to choose between this one: this one is the pwif-41/52 which is a converted baggage car. as i only wanted a single car a baggage car didnt work. this one used to be a normal passenger car that was then converted with a drivers cab at one end replacing the original open platform (the other end got the same trearment but no cab). this one was better but i still decided against it as the next variant looked better for me and was more common: the only real thing that differentiates this one from the normal middle car is the front windows along with their headlights. enough about the prototype here is the model: it isnt fully prototypical as far as colors go nor was i aiming for that. still needs the front headlights and door handle on the back. contrary to normal cab cars where you have the driver control the locomotive directly they used a system similar to what you find on a steamboat where the "driver" has a messaging wheel that he sets to go faster go slower and such. the engineer on the loco then just opens the throttle or closes it. the train was braked by the driver though. this system was intended for the use with steam locomotives. i am using my e69 005 electric locomotive with it but that one never had a system like this so it is fantasy. also it kinda fits this years octrainber theme but i dont think i will enter this one as it isnt really good enough for octrainber (yet). hope you like it so far!
  10. the issue with the shorts on 12v are more related to the fact that the 12v power rails are super close together whereas the 9v ones are the rails so they are further apart. the solution works insanely well. i have no issues with the pickups bending in the other direction.
  11. looks nice! only thing is the noise but thats not really improveable. my Breuer is just as loud. with these small motors and gearboxes there is no way around that.
  12. that is true. got some for cheap a couple of years ago.
  13. also the later "world city" 9v track is dark bluish gray.
  14. ...and i thought i was fast...granted you want to build it irl too but still.
  15. no mig 17 unfortunately. NOW i am done: changed the bars to the correct color rear side made the bars red and added the support structure and hydraulic cylinders and here is the other side. added a little bit of detail to the fuel tank aswell
  16. looks amazing! i especially like the köf.
  17. well i am not done yet. final renders tomorrow. added some stuff. in terms of building techniques it isnt that much different to last years model except the undercarridge and the windows which use the same basic technique as the vossloh g6. i am super happy with how the jet engine turned out though. i think Somebody recommended me the piece with the multiple bars to attach clips to as the base for the jet and i went along from there.
  18. today i did a lot of progress: first i changed the magnet to allow it to work in curves without decouplings. and then i did the klimow wk1-a jet engine with its mounting and added some Detail to the tank aswell. the jet engine was quite a fun build i have to say. here is a picture of a restored engine. the one on the actual vehicle is quite rusty. the individual tubes are the chambers where the fuel gets burned. unlike jet engines today which have the air flow straight through them this one had a radial fan which pushed the air into these chambers where it was mixed with fuel and ignited pushing it out the rear driving a turbine that drove the radial fan.
  19. well next up i did the fuel tank. not finished yet, still needs some details.
  20. man i love these nez cassé locomotives. i prefer the electric variants but the diesel also looks good!
  21. digital is also an option and it is fast if you know your preferred digital building software as for the henschel you mean the henschel bbc de 2000 "um an" a guy on the german dr brick forum already does this one
  22. 1:87 scale? NOW you got me interested!
  23. look here for ideas @Paperinik77pkhttps://oef.com.ua/viewtopic.php?t=117&start=160
