  1. Very unique building style indeed! One question about the second boom: Is the wormgear driving a 8 tooth gear? I am really curious that this doesn't brake under the torque?
  2. I think Luca got the proportions of the lower structure wrong. The wheelbase seems 4 studs too long. What's really interesting is the grapples: Looks like a linkage, where the small pneumatic cylinder is implemented in the final boom.
  3. Thanks guys, this actually never crossed my mind! Will try this one :)
  4. Truly, this could have been a winner car for TC18! Can you show the underside? I am unsure how you did the rear drivetrain... there seem to be not enough space for CV or universal joints?
  5. I really tried hard coming up with a solution for the vertical tilt of the middle boom section. Sadly, there is no easy way of implementing this feature in a good looking and functional manner. Here are both types in a half baked state. I also build both, but they quickly got too clumsy (wormgear) or too unstable (small LA). I decided to move on with the main build, maybe an idea for the boom will appear during a creative phase :D
  6. As I just received my 42133 yesterday, and just changed the tilt mechanic the way I think suits and looks better with fewer parts: I just post it here, because there is no need for a new topic I think :D
  7. Whoa! The movement is sooo smooth. Great job!
  8. Then I'd use the solution @Gray Gear supposed: 5L axle with 8tooth gear and use the lower pinholes for a 3L friction axle/pin with a 8 tooth gear. But please, use the intended thread for upcoming questions ;-)
  9. Can you show the specific case? It's hard to judge without seeing, what assambly you are building... ;-)
  10. Looks good :-) I really hope for an official 3 axle flatbed european cabover with a crane on the back side just in this scale, like an follow-up to the allmighty 42043. With pneumatics of course!
  11. Someone had to do it and you did a wonderful job! :-)
  12. I think it will be highly likely the big ring, why should it be too big? The undercarriage will kinda look like the 42100.
  13. Nice work! But what does the small turntable do? The black part doesnt seem connected to anything?
  14. I hate this one, because it looks better than the original model :D How many parts are leftover? I'd wish the bended inner tooth rings could have been used too... ;-)
  15. Ok, tracked vehicles are really hindered here, or you use the rubber track for such builds... A volume limitation is kind of hard to distinguish as @howitzer already pointed out. But I guess Jim already has something in mind :-)
  16. Idea is nice, but I think we will have a 'big' problem here, which @SaperPL and even @Jim pointed out earlier: Biggest models nearly always win such contests, therefor you have to have enough time, which is the most crucial resource of AFOLs, at least in my perception. I am still in favor of the polybag contest (max. 100 parts, weight limit of 100 g). As we will have many entries, definetely the new formula 1 voting scheme has to be applied here :D
  17. Really nice that everything seems to fit Are you planning to use olive green? These fenders are also available in white ;-)
  18. So impressive! The level of detail here is godly. The pirate hooks for the rail connection made me smile :D
  19. Still working on it, but if I can't do it with enough stability, then this function will be dropped. Right now my solutions would either be too bulky (small turntable, small LA) or to unstable/wobbly (pin-connection, friction-held only). That's true :D But the mechanism for the main boom is so satisfying to activate. :-)
  20. Thanks Jorge! Acutally I followed your "keep-it-simple" principle here. There is just so much going on. Certainly, I will use a counterweight, as the extended boom will give such a big moment of force onto the whole chassis. I tinkered around various solutions but the more complex they become, the less I liked them. It just got too bulky, so I settled with a simple solution: Small LAs, just activated by a gear on top. I got nearly the same range as the real model: The main boom with the flip-flop beams will be made a bit beefier with few system pieces (slopes on the back side). same with the middle boom.
  21. Very easy but cool alternative :-) But the blade too wide for my taste, you could easily take out the most outward mounted panels and even the 1x7 liftarms and still have a decent size :D
  22. To make a working AND small swash plate is one of the hardest mechanical tasks imho, so great effort! It's been rumored that the new 42145 Helicopter has new parts just for this purpose (Source Promobricks): "The main and tail rotor can be rotated in two different speeds, the main rotor consists of 5 rotor blades. These can even be adjusted in pitch, in reality this causes the helicopter to climb or descend. On both sides of the cockpit there are control sticks, with which you can actually adjust the tilt of the main rotor, to simulate a flight to the front, back, right or left. A few new parts are said to have been designed for this purpose. The set also includes a working winch, with a hook that can be let down via a device on the outer wall. both cockpit doors and the large sliding door on the side can be opened by hand."
  23. For a ratchet mechanism it is a nice idea but for an engine of a small car, I fear it will really hinder playability or some parts will break. It could be used for 18+ sets, but not for normal sets.
