I assume the general thought process behind live action adaptations is the reason, people think animation is just for kids but if you make a kids movie in live action then it's something that nostalgic adults can go see and not feel embarrassed

Marvel Superheroes 2024 - Rumors & Discussion
Renny The Spaceman replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
True, hit 2008 film Igor is a step up from the Iron-man movies -
You're definitely not, I've talked about this a lot before but it's fundamentally different in how it's written on every level bar the surface level. Most key of all is the way it's written to be "meta" In the first film every line works on three levels 1: it's something the characters created if taken at face value would say 2: it's something a kid might say 3: it's something someone who's seen a lot of movies might say In order of importance in TLM2 it's flipped. There'd never be a line where a character says "marvel isn't returning our calls" in the first as that's just a Deadpool meta joke and doesn't really make sense for a kid or the LEGO characters to say, it's lazier and thus less funny. I remember coming out of the theatres and thinking about how half the jokes in this film is a character having an overly long exchange of "Look film trope is happening, I can't believe film trope is happening, good thing for film trope happening" Or "I'm glad everything is going very well, nothing will go wrong, everything is great and nothing will go wrong OH NO SOMETHING WENT WRONG" Like every joke has that cadence, almost every single one overstays it's welcome when the first would hit you with joke after joke, after joke never really dwelling on one. Of course it's also terrible with it's extended cast, way more aesthetically boring, Emmet feels kinda flanderised, it's twists don't really make sense when you think about them for five minutes, it generally just feels like it has less to say.AND it loses all of the first movie's bite, like I get they're kids films but the reason the first film holds up when you're an adult is that the adult jokes aren't just characters saying the names of adult film franchises most of them are actually social commentary which makes the film have something to sink your teeth into a bit. Also, this is less serious but I feel like these films feel cheaper when not only do they rarely ever show real minifigures and LEGO original themes.but also shove in pop culture characters who don't even have LEGO figures. The first film had a bunch of different random characters half of which WB didn't own and licenced character that were shown were all either a prick or pathetic, when they all had a joke, mostly at their expense, it's fun seeing other characters but when in TLM2 every character that shows up is owned by WB and half of them don't even have LEGO figures and their only is mostly "look, franchise you know" it winds up feeling more like a corporate IP showcase akin to Space Jam 2 or Wreck it Ralph 2. TBF TLBM did that too, and that kinda annoyed me but it's a good enough film + most phantom zone villains actually get something funny to do so it's not a big deal

2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Renny The Spaceman replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Yeah, maybe I'm just more pessimistic than you and think for the 100th anniversary of LEGO they'd totally try go all out and wind up making the worst LEGO Castle possible Right, it'd be cool but that story only works if they're full LEGO, imagine real people in a minecraft movie esc environment arguing about spare parts. I guess it is worth noting too that really only the first LEGO Movie cared about including classic LEGO themes, past there it's just the occasional CMF and Fabuland in TLM2. I wonder if there's gonna be anything except CMFs and Ninjago directly referenced -

Yeah, it'd be gaudy, but people eat up all gold things, LEGO always uses that to telegraph anniversaries or even just sets that are supposed to be super collectable in action themes. I don't doubt they'd do something like that even if I wouldn't like it -

For a hundred years they might. In the lore it's supposed to be Gold so they could always make an accurate versions as the big anniversary set -
The thing is I don't think they ever referred to the other films as live-action, the writers for Ninjago keep referring to it as Live action too, tbf that's one of the only ones that could work as live action. The one we have a plot synopsis for an older version of (The Missing Piece) is just the plot of the Playmobile movie (Real human brother and sister are growing apart, they go to a toy store and a transported into the LEGO world to learn to care for each other) and that synopsis kinda screams Minecraft movie doesn't it? Best case scenario these films (bar Ninjago) are all gonna be Playmobile movie/The Smurfs style affairs where either the first act is entirely liveactio, characters get sucked into the LEGO world and it's (hopefully) all LEGO, they learn their lesson then are sent back home or LEGO minifigures come alive/enter the real world through a portal and do a fish out of water movie. Then the worst Case Scenario is thee are all like the Minecraft movie Honestly, yeah. I think I've never been more embarrassed of a choice I've made than when I decided to see Kung Fu Panda 4 in cinemas ALSO, what do we think the likelyhood of the Hagemans accidently writing a fourth Nonce (Nadakhan, Ronin, The Nature elemental master) into Ninjago
-
Ideally yeah, but either way he'd need a voice actor. OFC because of Disney Mara Jade won't be in any of them BUT given how often LEGO Media uses the Dummy among 4 films there's a non zero chance he's in the background somewhere in one of these, if he's next to something that looks the right shade of green or a unnamed red haired woman then we'll count that as a win

What is your favorite Space set? (One only!)
Renny The Spaceman replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
That should exist. Surprised Squidman isn't in LEGO Legacy tbh, I remember the designers being pretty proud of him, thought he'd have caught on more as a LEGO character -
Bro I don't know if I wanna see live action Dummy, what if they cast someone lame or Evil? There's Ninjago, Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns one, one written and directed by Joe Cornish and the other one is directed by Jake Kasdan and I think is based off that rumoured plot from a while back hat was a ripoff of the Playmobil movie Live action so I don't know what it'll be. Probably it's own thing. Or who knows maybe it'll be like the Smurfs and they enter a portal into the real world or something shit Would be funny if they do a plot about the corruption in LEGO City

Either the modern Galaxy Explorer or the Robot Command Center from CS The day the squidman head mold was discontinued was the day LEGO died if we're being honest -
Dc Superheroes Wishlist Year 1 [Digital MOCs]
Renny The Spaceman replied to Agent Kallus's topic in LEGO Licensed
I said funniest, not least predictable, I personally find adding in-depth lore to original LEGO characters really funny because none of them are designed for that But this makes sense as a joke about the aslume lore and is very funny. Lady of Pain is also a good idea! It plays more off the Dummy lore itself instead of our in jokes but the entire point of this set is our in jokes so it's still absolutely perfect as is to be clear, I was just saying that in the Dummy lore it'd probably go differently. The new angles really show how much you thought about all these sets! They all feel like they could be real. -
Bro I swear people are making up these names now. I keep getting recommended a video from some star wars game with the title "Skeko chunga tatooine" I genuinely don't know what names are real or not with this anymore Is there actually a character called Darth Teeth or is that a joke? Impossible to know (please don't actually tell me, it's funnier to not know) Also plausible, TBF though with Aquaman they had one set before the film came out that was based on the movie then the comic ocean master one was a year later
